I think Jim is one of those rare LV gods who displays his controls as icons. Controls are displayed as icons in his book as well.
Who are we to argue with the great Jim Kring?
Maybe his eyes are not working as well as they used to.

No, it's a new LabVIEW installation and I've just been too lazy to go into the options dialog to change the settings.

You could just copy the LabVIEW.ini file from the previous version (I have to admit this gave me some trouble in the past, although I don't remember exactly what it was).
