	Hi All,
</p>

<p>
	I am trying to make an on-screen keyboard (OSK). I have previously created a nice one that works perfectly if you can feed in the reference of the control that has focus. However I cannot seem to reliably get a unique control reference for several circumstances (e.g. an element of cluster that is inside an array). So I decided to try and make my own, in the spirit of the code of this open source project: <a href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/numpad-emulator/files/latest/download?source=typ_redirect" rel="external nofollow">https://sourceforge.net/projects/numpad-emulator/files/latest/download?source=typ_redirect</a>
</p>

<p>
	The crux of my current problem is that whenever I click on one of my buttons of the OSK the focus is brought to the new window, and therefore I cannot direct the text into the control that previously had focus. I believe the way to solve this is to use the WinAPI to set the Extended Window Style of my OSK to be <em>WS_EX_NOACTIVATE</em>. According to MSDN <em>"this style allows a top-level window created with this style to not become the foreground window when the user clicks it. The system does not bring this window to the foreground when the user minimizes or closes the foreground window"</em>. This is the technique used by the Numpad application I have linked to earlier and works perfectly.
</p>

<p>
	Attached is my attempt. The hex style 0x8000108 is what Numpad uses for the window style. I can successfully control this application from my LabVIEW test to turn on or off the NOACTIVATE by setting or resetting the greater "8" bit in the config. <strong>This just does not work for my LabVIEW window though</strong>.
</p>

<p>
	Any ideas?
</p>

	This toolkit offer you an efficient, stable, and reliable front panel control value refresh function. User can design their UI dashboard without any code development.<br />
	1. Powerful parallel execution capability, Support clone reentrant execution running mode, you can create multi dashboard UIs at the same time and controls can synchronous refresh across different UI.<br />
	2.  High-speed data refresh capability, even with thousands of controls on a single UI, can easily maintain a refresh rate of 50ms while consuming very little CPU resources.<br />
	3. Support all control data types that "Tag Engine" support, this mean the only thing you need to do is to change the control "Label" with "Tag name", then the control will refresh automatically.<br />
	4. Support "muParser Expression", you can type the control "Label" with "Expression" that muParser Expression support, For example "a + b" "a &gt; 1 &amp; b &gt;= 2".

	I am having trouble developing a Sequential Function Chart (SFC) in LabVIEW. I found some videos online showing successful implementations (screenshots attached), but without the source code.
</p>

<p>
	I don't know how they are achieved(it is possible they utilized the 2D Picture control). Has anyone worked on similar projects and can offer some help?
</p>

<p>
	Similar to Siemens PCS7 SFC, I need to arrange specific modules in a certain order—either sequentially from top to bottom or in parallel.
</p>

<p>
	I have already figured out the execution logic. My main challenge is how to implement the graphical editing functionality.

	Hi folks - Do any of you know of a way to prevent Windows from going to lock screen during a long test run, by sending a command or doing some action periodically inside the Labview program? Assuming that the lock screen timeout setting is inaccessible due to access restriction. Telling the test operator to jiggle the mouse every couple of minutes is not always an option, ha ha.

	Hi  - I have a large application which enables our users to create their own test sequences, as part of that, they create visual instructions and we've added in a <u>very</u> basic image editor (sub MS paint). I've attached a couple of example screenshots.  We've been getting some negative feedback on the image editing capabilities, and we've suggested they use an external tool but we're still getting requests for a decent image editor within the app.
</p>

<p>
	As it's not a core part of our application, I don't want to develop one &amp; I don't think <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr> is best suited to this task.

<p>
	So - has anyone any recommendations of a paid for image editing toolkit within their <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr> project? I'm thinking a .net / winforms package that we could easily call and integrate into our project.

	I have been trying to make a System Style Enum that can be modified since I need to change the RingText.BGColor property to highlight the control if the UI determines there is a settings conflict.  I have modified an NXG Style Enum to look correct but when you click on the image that is the down arrow the control does not respond.  Any ideas on how to include that image in the area that the control responds to a mouse click?  For reasons in the code I'm not able to use a combo box.  I have attached the control.   I really like the NXG/Fuse style controls but the enums and rings are not great looking.

	In various part of my application I want to allow users to open a setup dialog and when that setup dialog is open they should not be able to  shift to another window, so the dialog should be modal...
</p>

<p>
	However, I also want the callers to continue to update as the user might then discover something critical in those displays while in the setup and exit the setup. The easy (/correct) solution to this is to have a separate loop in the callers that calls these setup dialogs, because then the setup dialog can be called statically/syncronously and have its window set to modal....I then get both updates in the caller's display and block access to GUI operations in the caller window. Now the downside to that is that you have to have such a dedicated loop and for various reasons some of the updates happen in the same loop here, so instead I thought I could call the dialog dynamically. This invalidates the modal behaviour though as it will not be modal in relation to the caller anymore.
</p>

<p>
	Setting the dialog "Always on top" is one option, but then it will stay on top even of file dialogs it calls(!) so unless you turn off the always on top setting every time you call a file dialog you have another problem. Setting the dialog to floating on the other hand does not block access to the caller's window. I can alternatively live with that by adding code to close the dialog if the parent gets closed etc, but a true modal behaviour would remove the need for such additional code and would be preferable.<br />
	<br />
	So, the question is, is there a way to call a VI asyncronously, but still force it to behave modal in relation to its caller (or "globally" (for the application))? Or should I just capitulate and make sure these calls happen statically in a loop that can wait?
</p>

Even if you then remove almost all other controls and splitters and recreate a single splitter its front panel, doing a normally simple edit (nothing special like setting the splitter size to 0 or anything) to that will crash too...(removing *all* controls does work though...)
</p>

<p>
	When this happens there is often an awful lot of things to recreate if the VI has to be recreated/all controls deleted (especially since <a href="https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Keep-block-diagram-layout-when-copying-between-front-panels-and/idi-p/4234717" rel="external nofollow">copying diagrams does not replicate front panels or vice versa</a>...).

<p>
	Has anyone experienced this and found a way to fix it? (I have the source code of the tool available so one possible step is to start debugging the crash on that, but perhaps someone has been down that rabbit hole already?)

The application call a dll to perform data processing on the Nvidia GPU while, in parallel, updating the UI plots in a parallel loop with the data from the previous iteration of data collection. Right now the integrated GPU is not used (at least according to the windows task manager); enabling the plotting results in a small (but visibile) increase in the elaboration time of the data processing.

	Many years ago I made a demo for myself on how to drag and drop clones of a graph. I wanted to show a transparent picture of the new graph window as soon as the drag started, to give the user immediate feedback of what the drag does and the window to be placed exactly where it is wanted. I think I found inspiration for that on <a href="https://www.ni.com/" rel="external nofollow">ni</a>.com or here back then, but now I cannot find my old demo, nor the examples that inspired me back then.
</p>

<p>
	Now I have an application where I want to<strong> spawn trends of a tag if you drag the tag out of listbox</strong> and I had to remake the code...(see video below).
</p>

<p>
	At first I tried to use mouse events to position the window, but I was unable to get a smooth movement that way. I searched the web for similar solutions and found one that used the <strong>Input device API</strong> to read mouse positions to <a href="https://forums.ni.com/t5/Example-Code/Position-Front-Panel-with-Mouse-Drag-Using-LabVIEW/ta-p/3524721" rel="external nofollow">move a window without a title</a> and that seemed to be much smoother. The first demo I made for myself is attached here (run the demo and drag from the list...). It lacks a way to cancel the drag though; Once you start the drag you have a clone no matter what.

Ideally I'd like to kill that border entirely, or at the very least have a flat control where I can have the border be a fixed color so it blends into the image content.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Back in the day I remember someone here posted a borderless cluster control, so I'm wondering if such an thing exists for picture controls?</p>

	Im pretty sure there is an option in LabVIEW 2019 when trying to comile FPGA VIs ,if you input 3 then three VIs can compile at the same time.(By default you can only compile one ,which is relatively slow when I have multiple VIs which requires many hours each to compile.)

	Hello All,
</p>

<p>
	I am trying to apply some principles to dynamically theme a UI in LabVIEW a la Google Material (<a href="https://m3.material.io/" rel="external nofollow">https://m3.material.io/</a>). I have created a theme class to define the different color schemes for the different situations (light mode, dark mode, whatever else) after loaded from a file. I am getting things to work pretty well overall EXCEPT I cannot find a good way to change the following colors:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		<strong>Listbox</strong>: border (the blue box surrounding the two listboxes shown in the screenshot)
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>MulticolumnListbox</strong>: border (gray in the screenshots so not too big of a deal)
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>MulticolumnListbox</strong>: horizontal lines (cannot see anything that implies dynamic coloring for this)
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	I will go ahead and attach the VI but I doubt it will be very useful for figuring this out - all the coloring will happen via another VI. I just need to figure out the properties to make this happen. Or to be gently let down by telling me it isn't possible for those items and I have to figure out a work around........
</p>

<p>

<p>
	side note, this is not where things will actually be put on the screen, so don't get bogged down in that weird detail <span><img alt=":D" data-emoticon="" src="https://lavag.org/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" title=":D" data-src="https://lavag.org/uploads/emoticons/default_biggrin.png"></span>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;font-size:16px;padding:0px;text-align:left;">
	Okay so I have a front panel, with some boolean controls on it.  I want to get the image of that control, and I want to put that image on top of other images.  The background color of the other images is controllable, so if I use the Get Image invoke node method on the control reference, and just set the background color to what the background is of the pane that the boolean is on, then it is convincing enough.  But I am having issues when these boolean controls are in other controls.  If it is in a Cluster for instance I need to get the image of the background of the cluster.  Clusters can be transparent so I need to keep getting the owner controls until I find one that isn't transparent.  For bonus points I can also use the Create Mask VI to mask out a color, and I can use the color of the background element to get an even cleaner image of my boolean control.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;font-size:16px;padding:0px;text-align:left;">
	This is all a pain but doable.  The issue I have is when my boolean is in an array.  My main goal is to just get the boolean control, with the alpha or specific colors masked out.  But when it comes to having booleans in arrays that is an issue.  Any suggestions?  Attached is a demo of what I mean.  Set the enum then run it.  For the scalar we just get the pane color.  For clusters we get the color, then if it is transparent, keep going up until we find a color, or find the pane.  But how do I handle the array?  Thanks.

	As per the title - I have a VI that has a large saved data set in a mixed signal graph, that, unfortunately, turns out to crash Labview every time the VI is opened, (or even the VI properties are accessed) - can't even drop the VI in the block diagram of another VI without crashing <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr>.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any tricks to clearing the front panel graph data without having to open the VI ?    Its a 6 or so plot mixed signal plot (4 analog, 2 digital with ~20 digital waveforms in the digital plots)  and the saved file is about 22MB (not that big) - but to say the Mixed Signal Graph's performance and behavior is 'poor' is an understatament.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thoughts and pointers appreciated.

	A long, long time ago in a galaxy not so far away I developed two xControls in order to create a VI installer. The VI Installer hasn't really gone anywhere but the xControls that it used were for a Toolbar and a Tab Control. (The string indicator which supports colours on the tab page below was another but that is already available - <a href="https://lvs-tools.co.uk/software/utilities-labview-library/" rel="external nofollow">Markup String</a>).

</p>

<p>
	The two xControls are pretty well defined and feature complete but for them to be introduced into the wild, they need "productionising" (documenting and tidying up FP/diagrams and creating VIPM installers). I've sat on them for years so it's not going to be me that does the last few percent and I don't want to be the one that people go to for support (I have enough out there already that I have to support). So if someone wants to take up the mantle, give me a shout and I'll figure out how to release them.

<p>
	My brain and google skills stopped working and I can't believe there's no simple solution to this.
</p>

<p>
	I have image data (not a displayed image) and I want to copy it to the clipboard. All solutions I found was using getimage or exportimage, which means a dummy indicator and also a small border around the picture (I would use it if I could get rid of that border).
</p>

<p>
	Is there a more sophisticated/simpler method to copy the actual image data/picture? I'm on Windows so it can be platform dependent. Wrapping Clipboard.SetImage would be a solution but maybe some of you have a code sitting around.

	Thanks in advance.

	My use case needs the Mixed Signal Graph and will involve cursor use, and lots of zooming in/out to review large sets of data quickly, spanning digital (binary, state, etc) and analog signals.
</p>

<p>
	Having a  Mixed Signal Graph that can show text, instead of JUST 0, 1, L, H, etc  would be EXTREMELY useful and elegant.  Running in 2022 Q3 at the moment, I am unaware of this feature in any version from <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr> 4 (yes, I'm an old timer) through to 2022-Q3 (hence not holding my breath for 2023Q1 to address this)
</p>

<p>
	Sure, with a bunch of work, I could recreate the Mixed Signal Graph with a picture control and get the effect I'm after -- but <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr>'s supposed to be making things easier and faster - if I have to go to that level of effort, another language may win out

	NI Week was a blast and while there I got to mention a few things I was trying that I'd like to share with the community.  One of them is this thing I'm calling a Multi Panel Interface (MPI).  The code is rough around the edges, very rough.  This is probably the least polished code I've posted in a long time but this code has been sitting in a half working state for a while, and if I took the time to clean it up, it might never be ready.  So please be gentle, there's room for improvement but I think the basics are there.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Now with that out of the way here's what I got.  I wanted to make an interface similar to Veristand.  I don't want to re-create the wheel when it isn't necessary but anyone who has worked with Veristand knows that there are quite a few limitations, and as a result I started developing a UI that is dynamic.  So that controls and indicators can be added and setup in way that could be saved and loaded for different operator types.  This would be setting and getting event based information from Actors running asynchronously.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Implementation</strong>
</p>

<p>
	It is a publisher subscriber architecture.  Here there are actors for each set of hardware we care to read from.  Later we could talk about controlling Actors but for now lets just talk reading.  So for example there maybe an Actor for CAN, Power Supply, AIO, DIO, FPGA, Real-Time (talking to another PC), UPS, etc.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Each Actor has a functional global that describes what data it has for other panels to display.  For the time lets call any data an Actor is publishing a "channel".  An Actor will publish the channel data to user events, and in a global it will have the list of user events and their names so they can be subscribed to.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The actual messaging system between the Actors and the Panels can be anything and in my demo I actually just have random numbers because the demo isn't meant to showcase the messaging it is meant to showcase the UI.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>UI</strong>
</p>

<p>
	The purpose of the demo posted is to show that a tabbed interface can be made, and be made semi-dynamically.  There are 3 things to be defined to understand what is going on.  The Parent VI, the Panel VI, and the Child VI.  In the demo the Parent is the top level "Main.vi".  Clicking the "Add" button will add a Panel VI which is a shell of a VI that has controls to minimize, pop out, and control menus to the Child.  The Panel has a subpanel that contains the Child VI.  The Child VI in this demo is only a graph showing random data.  The Child VI is tied to the Panel VI using a subpanel.  The Panel VI is tied to the Parent VI using Windows user32.dll function calls.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The user can interact with the Child anyway the child defines.  There is no right click override (like in Veristand) where you can no longer right click on a graph and get a menu.  The Parent VI also has little restrictions.  It is a normal VI with a menu bar which can be used for things like managing Panels.  In the demo there is also tabs in the Parent.  They are fake tabs in that there are 20 but the ones not being used are hidden.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	There are neat UI elements that are hard to describe in text.  Things like docking/undocking Panels, minimizing Panels while docked or not, resizing Panels while docked or not, moving panels quickly and easily, renaming panels, intuitively adding tabs while moving panels.  These are the basics that I didn't know if I could do so I did first.  The messaging I described before is not difficult it just takes some time to define how Actors talk and how Panels subscribe to the data.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I know there are some UI bugs.  The biggest one that you'll notice is trying to move a Panel when docked will have some z-order issues with other Panels that are docked, but there are others.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Code</strong>
</p>

<p>
	The actual code in the demo uses several pieces of code I've found.  The parent child idea I originally saw in the <a href="http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/DynaPanels-Now-we-can-place-controls-dynamically/td-p/991918" rel="external nofollow">Dynapanels</a> demo. Then there are several user32 functions from the <a href="http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/4935" rel="external nofollow">Windows API</a>.  Panel controls were from <a href="https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-13911" rel="external nofollow">UI Panels</a>. OpenG Array, Error, and Application Control is needed, I'm not sure if there are others.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a href="http://screencast.com/t/P9SJ1anR" rel="external nofollow">http://screencast.com/t/P9SJ1anR</a>
</p>

		<iframe allowfullscreen="true" frameborder="0" height="344" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bqNVbSn7nKg?feature=oembed" width="459"></iframe>
	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Please feel free to comment and use as you see fit.  Just know I won't be supporting this as a real project.

	What I would like to be abe to do is have a Tab control with different functions per tab , then let the user be able to drag and drop an "Icon" so to speak to the listbox,table etc... then I can pop up the user input screen for that particular function. Note , when I say function , i mean things that relate to testing , not , functions from the pallettes etc...

<p> </p>
<p>The project is hosted on github,  <a href="https://github.com/unipsycho/LabVIEWdotNetDataGrid" rel="external nofollow">https://github.com/unipsycho/LabVIEWdotNetDataGrid</a></p>

<p>I started a discussion for it in the LabVIEW NI community site when I started but its a LOT more presentable now, so extending this to LAVA.  The original discussion is here:</p>

	I think the answer is no, but I ask anyway. Does anyone know if it is possible to access an event or some other thing that returns the colour that is currently being "selected" by the mouse cursor when this colour picker widget is open? I mean getting a new value when the user moves their mouse around while the widget is open and has focus? I suspect this is all deep in C++ land but would love to be wrong here.

<ul>
<li>I ran the SetForegroundWindow Windows API function. This causes the titlebar to flash and draw attention for a short while but does not make it frontmost.</li>
<li>I ran the BringWindowToTop Windows API function. This does not make it frontmost.</li>
<li>I made my application window floating. This does appear to work. However this causes other problems since the window which I need to be frontmost is also a dialog box. So I don't want the user to click behind the dialog box onto my main application window.</li>
<li>I tried using the floating window property (as mentioned above), then quickly made it modal again. This has the affect of flashing the window to the user and then disappearing behind any other app windows. Not good and also confusing.</li>
</ul>
<p></p>
<p>So, is there any way to do this?</p>

	I am using DataGridView to display a table to the user. I am needing to constantly overwrite the rows every few seconds to update the data in the table. The issue happens when I am finished with the program and want to dispose of the DataGridView, LabVIEW crashes when I try to dispose of the DataGridView Reference ONLY when the amount of rows becomes large enough to the point the DataGridView container needs a scroll bar.
</p>

<p>
	Here is the setup of my API:
</p>

<p>
	1. Configure the Amount of Columns and Column Titles.<br />
	2. Configure the Table Properties<br />
	3. Bind the DataSource<br />
	4. Configure the column Header Properties such as autosizing and minimum Column width using DataGridViewColumn (Needs to be done after binding the DataSource otherwise there is an error setting the column properties because I cannot get Item)<br />
	5. Write row data (first clears row data if there is existing row data)
</p>

<p>
	All of this works fine up to the point where I am finished displaying data and want to close/dispose of the references. i.e Disposing of the DataGridView reference causes LabView to crash IF the DataGridView Table needed a vertical scroll bar.

	I've been working on a total ground-up rewrite of a production test application that was crafted in LabVIEW 7.1 in the early-mid 2000's.  I got approval to do this since I really didn't want to glom the real required changes (mostly about hardware evolution) onto ageing software architecture, and (IMO) *way* overbusy UI.  I'm talking multiple layers of tabs-within-tabs-within-tabs.  I've worked to make a still-pretty-busy UI a lot flatter/simpler.
</p>

<p>
	I'm getting tweaked in validation reviews because I declined to include an explicit "stop" button to close down the application.  (The application typically runs for multiple hours.)  No matter how I try to explain that no other desktop application has a "stop" button (I just intelligently handle shutdown via the filtered window close attempt), I'm being told, "NO, it NEEDS a STOP button".
</p>

<p>
	Of course I'll give my manager what he wants, but I don't have to like it.

	Hi all!

<p>
	I have a strange bug/feature with Front Panel - Get image. The image has a false color. I haven't tested with other colors, I hope there's some easy answer, or it is a known bug, so I stop searching and heavy debugging and go with the alt+printscreen emulation method instead of get image.
</p>

<p>
	The false color is on the graph &gt; plotimages.back and seemilnly it's only the orange that turns into pink.<br>

<p>
	The pictures are generated in sequence without any delays, maybe the front panel is not fully updated before the capture? Which would mean some things are updated asynchronomously, which I didn't explicitly do. I certainly see the front panel flashing in the right colors.

	I like resizable UIs, and that often means custom code to handle some of the operations in the UI.  One such feature I like is a vertical array, that shows more rows, as the window size gets larger and can show more.  I've used code like this a few times and figured the community might like it too.  When doing this there are times when I want a user to be able to add more rows, and some times that it needs to either be static, or set by some other outside variable.  So in this demo is also a way to link a vertical scrollbar that is a separate control, and have it move, and get set, so that it looks like it is linked to the array control.  But this will coerce, and not allow more rows to be seen, than the number of elements in the array.
</p>

<p>
	At the moment this only supports 1D arrays, and only in the vertical direction.  Code is saved in 2020.

	I've identified a bottleneck in some of my more text-heavy picture based user interfaces as calls to Get Text Rect.vi. It's adding on the order of 100 - 1000 ms rendering time to my interface which otherwise does things in 10 - 100 ms depending on data density. To make matters worse it gets slower by a factor of 5x or so if a user-defined font is used (anything other than application/system/dialog). User-defined fonts are required to alter text size, so...yeah. S. L. O. W.

	Hi all!<br>
	<br>
	How do you implement mouse capture for controls? This is more of a philosophical question about your solutions, you did you learn to live without it etc.
</p>

<p>
	By mouse capture I mean mouse capture:<br>
	A control receives mouse events even if the pointer is not above the control. It's useful for dragging among controls, or for a graphical user interface (mousedown&gt;mousemove&gt;mouseup event chain). Without mouse capture if the user accidentally leaves the drawing area during a drag-like operation and mouseup occurs outside, the drawing area gets stuck in dragging mode (mostly). This is a very annoying phenomenon.<br>
	However, this is usually only needed in 1-2 controls (or 0 in most cases), so obviously not for everything you have on the front panel.
</p>

<p>
	Mousecapture in win32 programming is very easy. You call Setcapture(control_handle) on mousedown, and call releasecapture() on mouseup. It does have problems (system releases capture because another window gets on top for whatever reason), but these can be handled. And usually the problems are not that severe, or at least doesn't happen whenever the user moves the mouse too fast…
</p>

<p>
	So how to deal with it in Labview?
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		No, calling the winapi with setCapture won't work as it works with windows (win32 treats controls as windows) but in Labview by default there is only one window: the front panel.
	</li>
	<li>
		Somehow replacing drag+drop functions all controls have some sort of?
	</li>
	<li>
		Creating user events for mouse handling and all controls have to handle mouse events and propagate them to the user event?
	</li>
	<li>
		Somehow make the control you want to mousecapture a separate window but mimic it's not? +winapi
	</li>
	<li>
		Some mouseleave/mouseenter hack and checking button states (but how? you shouldn't mix events with polling)?
	</li>
	<li>
		Ditch event structure and go for polling? Or even worse: polling only the mouse in a separate loop and generate user events?
	</li>
	<li>
		Some special control (ActiceX?) that has mousecapture using function that's easy to replace and place it invisibly on to of your control?
	</li>
	<li>
		Confine the cursor to the control (that's the worst one yet…)
	</li>
	<li>
		other...
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	Thanks for any hints and ideas or stories on the topic and sorry for the inaccuracies in technological terms, it was very long ago when I did win32 programming.

Each screen of the wizard is in a different page of the tab control, and the pages are programmatically changed, as the user presses the Next or Back button.</p>
<p>3. <strong>System (Dialog) Raised Box Decoration</strong> -- Since there are no System (Dialog) raised-box decorations, I will commonly use a Dialog Tab Control with one page and the tab hidden, as a subsitute for a Dialog Raised Box.</p>
<p>4. <strong>A Better "Grouping" Mechanism</strong> -- An extra benefit of #3 is that the controls inside of the single page tab control are now grouped -- without actually having to use the <em>Group</em> feature -- and can be moved around by simply moving the tab control. If you use a Modern (3-D) or Classic (2-D) tab control, you can even make the tab control transparent.</p>

	Does anyone have a picture showing how, given a VI, I can get ...<br>
	     ... the size of the monitor hosting that VI's panel...<br>
	          ... minus the taskbar size (if any) on that monitor...<br>
	               ... in a platform (OS) independent manner?
</p>

<p>
	I had a clean-but-annoying way to do this until I discovered that Windows10 has a mode that lets the task bar be replicated onto different monitors (and, worse, those taskbars aren't necessarily the same size). The only trick I can come up with is to maximize the panel momentarily and grab the panel size at that moment, but that creates flicker in the UI.
</p>

<p>
	Yes, I am aware of these two properties:
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="14708" data-ratio="55.21" width="96" alt="image.png.e7ac24070956511468cf0d7226a44c44.png" src="https://lavag.org/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://lavag.org/uploads/monthly_2020_04/image.png.e7ac24070956511468cf0d7226a44c44.png">
</p>

<p>
	They do not suffice. The first one gives all the monitor sizes without accounting for taskbar. The second one only reports taskbar on primary monitor. If I could be sure the taskbar was only ever on the primary monitor, I can figure it out from this info, but discovering taskbars on multiple monitors was an option throws a wrench in that plan.

	If I have an object selected, is there any way I can open the menu for that object without having to actually click on the object? I'd try using that menu key on the keyboard that no one ever uses, but my keyboard doesn't have that key, and the equivalent Shift+F10 doesn't work. The reason I need this is because I have a frameless cluster control I created, and with no frame to click, the only place LabVIEW detects a click is inside the cluster, and it just opens the palette menu when I right-click there. The only other thing I can right-click is the label, and that doesn't give me the menu I need. I can select the cluster itself just fine by dragging a box around it, but the context menu seems to be the only place to use certain options, and I can't figure out how to open the context menu without a place to click.
</p>

<p>
	If there is no shortcut to open the context menu on a selected item, is there a way to programmatically open the context menu on an object using its refnum? That way I could write a Quick Drop plugin to do it.

	On LabView 2014, I see that my VI files happily store strings using current OS (testing on Windows) code page.
</p>

<p>
	I assume there's no conversion mechanism, and if I use the VI on another OS, or just different language Windows, I will get unreadable mish-mash instead of the proper text?
</p>

<p>
	Is that fixed in <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr> 2019, or do NI still avoid UTF?
</p>

<p>
	I realize this is not an issue, or at least minimal issue, when you describe things in english and avoid using ascii codes &gt; 127. (though note that even original <abbr title="LabVIEW">LV</abbr> libraries contain OS-specific char codes, mostly a special variants of apostrophe and minus/pause: ` and -.
</p>

<p>
	I though the world has finished moving to unicode more than 15 years ago...
</p>

<p>
	EDIT: Verified on Windows with different language. I do get invalid characters. There is no conversion, LabView just tries to print the characters using current Windows code page, resulting in garbage. How this is still an issue today?
</p>

<p>
	I need to provide the ability to set code page as input parameter to my VI reader.
</p>

<p>
	EDIT2: Now i know everything I need - see "Character Code Issues" chapter:
</p>

<p>
	<a href="http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372614J-01/lvconcepts/porting_among_platforms/" rel="external nofollow">http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372614J-01/lvconcepts/porting_among_platforms/</a>
</p>

<p>
	It's funny how lack of proper string conversion is called "compatibility feature". Reading the chapter gives you a feeling that LabView supports the conversion whenever possible, but it doesn't seem to be the reality.

	Instead, I tried to set the color of a decoration in the background. That also didn't work. (Maybe because I'm accessing the decorations reference through the Facade vi's Pane?)

	Hi.
</p>

<p>
	This is a simple project in which we found a problem.
</p>

<p>
	We want to: launch several copies of the incoming VI driver, serving the same devices of the same type.
</p>

<p>
	In each copy, the binding of the controls to the required shared variable changes programmatically.
</p>

<p>
	Noticed: it is impossible to bind the same type of controls in different copies to different variables.
</p>

<p>
	The value of the SV variable binding path for the control from the last copy of the VI is copied to all previous controls.
</p>

<p>
	Before you begin, you must deploy the library with test variables.

<p>
	Sincerely, Vitaly.

<p>Now I have an application which seems to take quite a bit of long time to load up, to the point where users regularly wonder, "Hmm, did I actually double click that? Better try again." More than once I've been right next to the person and told them, "No just be patient, it will show up." only to watch them try again and again to click that darned icon. Well at least I haven't set allowmultipleinstances=true in the ini file. Yet.</p>
<p>I know there will be a constant time as the LabVIEW RTE spins up which is independent of the actual executable I create in LabVIEW. But does the size of my executable also affect load times? I'm under the impression that the whole thing must load, so if it's larger a splash screen can't be shown either way until the entire application has been loaded into memory. I might be wrong here. My current application is at 44 MB, this doesn't seem too large to me...</p>
<p>Has anyone played around with dynamically loading their core application logic from outside of the executable to see if that reduced time to display a splash screen? I figure the best way to do this is have the bulk of my code in a LabVIEW built DLL, then have a shell of a LabVIEW exe display the splash screen and proceed to take its time loading the DLL, after which the splash screen hides itself? The DLL will <em>not</em> be statically linked, a path will be built to it at run time. Or is this road fraught with peril? I've never actually built a DLL in LabVIEW, this might be interesting.</p>

	The QControl Toolkit by Q Software Innovations is an object-oriented and extensible alternative to XControls. Use the QControl Toolkit framework and the QControl Creation Wizard to create QControl Classes and receive the benefits of XControls without the headaches. Take advantage of easy UI logic code reuse. Encapsulate and decouple the UI logic away from the business logic of the main application and from the UI skin. Use wherever the VI Server and LabVIEW object-oriented programming are allowed. Easily extend the capabilities of current LabVIEW controls through access to all properties available at run time. And easily use the toolkit with more complex frameworks like the Actor Framework or other plugin architectures where LabVIEW libraries and packed project libraries are used and where XControls can behave unpredictably. <br><br>

	Does anybody know if it is possible to configure the path control so that when a user clicks the browse button the file dialogue that pops up has a custom filename pre-populated? You can do this easily with the dialogue prim, but I cannot figure out how to do this with the path control. I thought perhaps there would be an event that is fired off on browse, but it does not appear so.

<p>
	I suppose I could hide the browse button and replace it with a regular button...

	Does anybody know how to get a LabVIEW built application to ignore the scaling setting in Windows?
</p>

<p>
	I have some code designed to fit nicely in 1280x1024 pixels, but some of my customers say that even on a 1920x1080 display the menu bar at the top is cut off. I guess this is probably because their windows scaling is set to some number other than 100%.
</p>

<p>
	In my experience LabVIEW looks really rubbish when run on Windows 10 with this setting to anything other than 100% (blurry and inconsistent). I suppose is to be expected from an application like LabVIEW that is approaching retirement age!
</p>

<p>
	Am I missing something obvious here? Although I always set my Windows scaling to 100% on all the PCs I control it is not really practical for me to expect ask my clients to change this setting as some of them have probably gotten used to seeing Windows text nice and big at 125 or 150%.
</p>

<p>
	Edit 1 I have done quite a bit of googling and not really come across anything LabVIEW specific. The closest I got was some NI KB about LabWindows.
</p>

<p>
	Edit 2. Success! <a href="https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000004A7eSAE" rel="external nofollow">https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000004A7eSAE</a>   Note a newer Windows update adds a few more options which are now tucked away in a separate dialogue. I have not tried playing around with the other options yet as this fix works fine on my PC.
</p>

<p>
	Edit 3. And this is how it can be done programatically: <a href="https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mspfe/2013/11/21/disabling-dpi-scaling-on-windows-8-1-the-enterprise-way/" rel="external nofollow">https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mspfe/2013/11/21/disabling-dpi-scaling-on-windows-8-1-the-enterprise-way/</a>   (i.e. as part of an installer action)

	The <span lang="en" xml:lang="en"><span>attached</span></span> code will select all boolean from my VI and get the value of each one. Then build a array of boolean that will be used in another VI.
</p>

<p>
	My doubt is about the order of the boolean. In my example there four boolean: 1) "Home", 2) "Ensaio", 3) "Análise" and 4) "Configurações".
</p>

<p>
	How can I <span lang="en" xml:lang="en"><span>ensure</span></span> the order of the boolean inside the array?
</p>

<p>
	I mean, if a user delete the boolean named "Ensaio" (2nd element of the array) and add another one, it will be the second element of the array or will be last one?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Note 1: I'm using this code because the other users will add or remove boolean from the Front Panel, and I don't want them mess around with the block diagram.
</p>

<p>
	Note 2: Each boolean is customized, having different images each one.

<p>
	I'm new in LabVIEW, please be patient with me <img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" src="https://lavag.org/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" title=":)"></p>

<p>
	I was working in a User Interface for my application. My plan is to use a main.vi file and load a subvi in each of the four splitters.
</p>

<p>
	But there are two problems that I cannnot solve:
</p>

<p>
	1) I want transform the part of the code that change the mouse icon into a subvi. But the option Edit &gt; Create SubVI isn't working well because of the boolean value change in the Event Structure
</p>

<p>
	2) When I load a subvi into a sub panel, I want the "mouse icon change" code work inside the subvi. How can I do that without copying the code into the subvi?

	Hi I wrote a live acquisition vi to acquire data from the camera to display the buffer index on the scroll bar, but it seems to act strangely. I expected the scroll bar's slider size to be 1/(max size), but it starts from 1.
</p>

<p>
	As an example, when the first frame arrives then the scroll bar's slider size is equal to the UI element's width.
</p>

<p>
	When the 2nd frame arrives then the scroll bar's slider size becomes the half of the UI element's width.
</p>

<p>
	Similarly when the 3rd frame arrives then the scroll bar's slider size becomes the 1/3rd of the UI element's width

<p>
	and this continues...

<p>
	My main VI contains a whole bunch of splitters and inserted VIs. These VIs all need to react to Pane Size event of their pane.
</p>

<p>
	The event comes as expected when the user resizes the main window. But it does not come when I programatically set the main FP Panel Bounds or Windows Bounds.
</p>

<p>
	How can I force the event to come? Programatically moving the splitters 1 pixel and back does the trick, but that's an ugly solution.

	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	We're about to re-structure our VI source tree and therefore I'm looking for a way to automatically edit/change the VI icons as well. To do so, I want to open all VI's and change the icon text as well as add a new icon layer (on top) and then save this VI (perhaps also rename it, move it to another location ...) The only problem I have - I can (with help of Icon editor API) open the existing VI, get the icon data (separate entries for text, different layers, ...) and adjust them to new informations/texts/icon layers. But it is not possible to write back these changes to existing VI, I can only create a new VI with this data. Or I can overwrite any old icon settings by passing a new icon, loosing all different icon layers and separate texts.
</p>

<p>
	Is there any way to edit an existing VI Icon without loosing the existing icon texts/layers? I even tried to open the original icon editor via script and do the edits with "SendInput" remote control of it's user interface. But didn't find a way to open the icon editor on first hand :-(
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So any ideas highly appreciated!
