Download LabVIEW for Free

I've tried to download it from the NI website but the "Offline Install" does not work at all and the on-line installer does something that I do not quite understand.  After all, I cannot find LabVIEW on my computer.

Any suggestions?

I have a Python TCP server that streams webcam video frames as JPEG over the network. Now I want to build a LabVIEW client that can:

• Connect to the Python server

• Read the first 4 bytes (frame length)

• Receive the JPEG frame data

• Display the image on the LabVIEW Front Panel

Note: I do not have NI Vision Toolkit, so I need a solution using .NET (MemoryStream + Image.FromStream) or any other method to display the image.

Can someone share a simple example VI or block diagram to achieve this?

So I had a bug I couldn't figure out. The setup is according to the attachment.

The Close File function kept throwing an error (code 1) and I couldn't understand why. But then I finally understood: if there is an error in to the Write to Text File the file refnum becomes invalid.

The reason I am starting this thread is that I always thought that there is always a case structure in a sub VI, even for the primary functions, so that if there is an error the function isn't executed BUT any refnum passes the VI unaffected. But that isn't the case? Is this an expected behaviour?

The method signature that I would like is

The customer who might not be very familiar with .net dll's is unable to figure out a way to invoke this...

so I have been trying to figure it out using the labview community edition.

Step 1 was to just see if I could pass a "ref" struct back to Labview... and here's my dll code for that and the labview sketch...

In the dll code if I change the input to myStruct data1 (without the ref) I am able to invoke it but once I make it ref (as shown in the code) I get an error - 1316

Question: Is there a way to allow for labview to exchange a struct and get the value back from the .net method? I have been reading up on clusters in labview but am not sure if this is possible yet...

My initial solution was to convert this structure to a string and then to byte buffer, pass the buffer and its lenght, and then decode it on the C side. However, this approach has issues when the key or value contains characters that I used as separators. While I could improve my encoding method, I'm looking for alternative solutions to achieve my goal.

it may be a stupid question, but I'm not too deep into Labview yet.

I want to read out values from a battery via a DS28E17 and display them.
Now my question is how to do this with TMEX.

My current setup is as follows. I can output the ROM number without any problems. But not the voltage from the battery or the DS28E17 does not pass on my commands to the battery.

So I click "Activate LabVIEW Community Edition", and it opens a web browser to a page asking me to log in to my NI account. I do, and then it takes me to a page saying "You have been authenticated. You may close this window." But LabVIEW itself tells a different story:

The strange thing is that the "You have been authenticated" page says 127.0.0.1 in the address bar, meaning the message is coming from my own computer rather than NI's website. So you'd think it would match what LabVIEW says, but nope.

I'm pretty sure I already tried redownloading LabVIEW Community Edition and it didn't work. Anyone know how to fix this?

This code can get it from Labview library.

You can also search this file in Labview > help > find example > searching...

The file location is LabVIEW\examples\Vision\3. Applications\Fusebox Inspection Example.llb . 

Another example is "Tile identification" . I am not sure the file location for this.

Attached to this discussion is my script. So lately, I've been working on connecting 2 dual channel chemyx fusion 4000x syringe pumps. I managed to control them each channel independently using my script. Each channel works perfectly, the only issue I'm having is that every time I put the volume input in my script it would not change in the pump, but my rate would. for example, if I put in my software vol= 500ul @3.5ul/min, in the pump would only change the rate. besides that, in pump one channel 1 works perfectly but channel 2 of pump one is the one having the problem stated. in pump 2 channel 2 is the one who has the problem stated before too.

To communicate with the Chemyx Fusion 4000x dual channel syringe pumps, I am using one USB A to B cable per pump. I had to rename the cables to COM2 and COM12 in order for the program to read them. I validated the cables using NI Max.

All of the commands work perfectly fine, except for volume communication. Both channels work perfectly fine for each pump when I set the volume using the syringe pump's display. However, when I try to set the volume using my program, only one channel works. This is the same issue for both pumps.

I can run both pumps at the same time using different USB A to B cables and connecting them to different ports on my computer. I also had to change the baud rate to 115200 to get the system to work.

I have tried going into the internal panel and changing the volume setting from single pump to channel 1 or channel 2, but it still does the same thing.

If I turn off the pumps and turn them back on, they will both work perfectly fine, as well as the channels and the volume. However, after 3-4 minutes, the volume setting will only work in one of the channels for each pump. I also wanted to add that I just realized that when I apply the volume in my script, the syringe pump will detect it and show it on the syringe pump screen, but only if one of the other channels is off/not running at the same time. If both channels are running, the volume won't work on either channel.

I am attaching the manual for the syringe pump to this forum.

Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

I have some doubts regarding NI PXIe devices and configuration.

I am using LabView 2017, and I have installed NI-DAQmx 19.1.0

In Ni-MAX , under remote system I can see my device is connected. But beside Dev1 there is a red cross and that is throwing error. It is saying the version of DAQmx is different in remote system and local system. Even though I find it same. Still, I tried to reinstall it and giving some error "NI DAQmx 19.1.0 requires base system 6.0o

Here, I have attached screenshots of the issues. I request you to verify it once and let me know how I can solve the problem.

I have written two programs client and server. The general idea is to make it a simple communicator on a local network to send three types of data string, 2 dimensional matrix and image + null message. For now the server sends data and the client receives. Ideally the two programs should be able to both receive and send data. However, I am most concerned about error 91 (Error 91 occurred at Variant To Data in CLIENT.vi). This may be related to the fact that when a timeout occurs, data is sent that the client does not know how to handle. How to maintain communication between the two applications? Probably this is something trivial that I can't see. I would appreciate your help. Programs are in this zip file.

I tried almost all of the parameter permutations to call this function but my program keeps on crashing. I'm on debian.

I've written a c Function and compiled it to a shared object. I call the function in labview and it executes just fine. The function modifies a ".cti" file. When I want to execute the function a second time it fails because labview still takes ownership of the process even after it terminates. When I run the function without labview this error doesn't occur..

How would I create "void* g_hSystem" in Labview?

I have been working on it for several days but I have no idea how to extend the array to more rows.
Basically when you write a word that is in the array "Set using all specified ingredients" below the 5th line nothing appears on the array below it same exact thing for the array "ingredients" where you cannot write beyond 2 lines.

any ideas ? can you help me?

I started a new VI on LabVIEW 2021 to communicate, about tcp/ip, with a led display like a billboard as image below.

I get a communication as TCP/IP through the manufacturer software, but i didn't know what is the package i need to send, the full package.

This led display it's a simple command use, with there software (above) or bluetooth in cell phone,  but, to communicate for TCP/IP, they install a conversor, the USR-TCP232-T2 module, as image below

The image bellow, I show the simple program im LabVIEW to command this led display but the main question is: whats is the kind of package i need send to show the message or change the configuration of the display.

In attached, we can see the datasheet that manufacturer send us about this led display and the package to send, but i did'nt undestand how to do 😕

I am working on a battery charging and discharging project and i use a Matlab\Simulink based dll file in my VI and its run without error with NI PXIe 8840 device ans PXIe-6368 DAQ card . It works according to the requirements and the outputs are same as Matlab simulation.  How can i give signal to amplifier to get voltage and current for battery charging to see the behavior of the model in real-time ? How to generate the file with signals and load in  in amplifier HMI?

If someone can give me a good procedure it will  be very helpful for me.

I created a dll file from the Simulink model using NI Veristand input and outputs as shown in figure 1. Later I use this dll in Labview VI and use Module interface Toolkit and export the dll in it, Its runs perfectly and there is no error with it as shown in figure 2

Now I want to use this VI for the real-time target to test the battery. I have NI PXIe-8840 device in my lab and I would like to test the battery with this VI and dll. 

Anyone who has dealt with this before and can use this Dll and VI in real time using NI PXIe 8840 device.

I am trying to plot three XY scatter data and move one against the others. It does work when I make a new x-axis and change the scales of one manually. However, when I try and use it programmatically, the numbers of the scale change, but the plots do not change, meaning the one that was moving is not anymore. 

I could just recalculate X values separately and replot every time I change scale, but I don't think that should be the only way to do this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was very happy to hear that the new LabVIEW Community Version was released, because you can now implement very simple projects with the Raspberry.

Immediately I tried to connect my Raspberry 3 B to the LINX Target Configuration to LabVIEW.
Unfortunately there encountered some problems during the installation, which and I hope you can help me with.

After I had successfully connected to my Raspberry, I received the following message during installation.

"The target LINUX partition is only 5GB of the available 7GB. It is recomendet to expant the partition."

After I expanded the partion with the Configuraton tool, I received a message that ererything was sucesfull.

But I have to say that I expanded the LINUX Partition manually bervore (via fdisk) to the mximum capacaty of my 32 GB card.

In the log text the device type Raspberry Pi 2 B is mentioned, but I have an Raspberry Pi 3 B.

Even if the installation failed, I was able to start the sample project (LED).

After I restarted the system, I was unable to establish a connection to the Raspberry and received the message "Connection to dhcpcd lost".

What can cause this problem and how can I solve it?

for image, I made a script in python using OpenCV libraries that detecting some points . For voltage control, I use cRIO-9063 with NI 9264 voltage controller.

My question is, I am new in LabVIEW and I don't have any idea how can I make a loop for voltage control in python. Is there any library available in python that directly connect cRIO and NI 9264 devices? if not then how can I combine my image data(which is in python) with cRIO device? I need argent help.

I am working on a machine vision project with LabVIEW.

The camera will locate some parts and send their coordinates via TCP/IP 

and I created a client also with LabVIEW to display these coordinates here is how the communication going.

First, if the camera detects something then msg will be sent to the client to inform him.

then if msg was received correctly client responds with another msg to request the coordinates. 

at last, the server sends the coordinates to the client. 

here I faced some problems

1- the msg sent are with variable length ("x=0,y=0,Rz=0"==> "x=225,y=255,Rz=5" ==> "x=225,y=255,Rz=90"  length vary between 16 and 22 ) with the constant "byte to read " it will not display the full msg.

2-the client works fine but at a certain time, it shows errors like ("LabVIEW: (Hex 0x80) Open connection limit exceeded";;;;;; "LabVIEW: (Hex 0x42) The network connection was closed by the peer. If you are using the Open VI Reference function on a remote VI Server connection, verify that the machine is allowed access by selecting Tools>>Options>>VI Server on the server side"

I am working on a LabVIEW project which is a machine vision application
I used a tab control  (3 pages).
1st page for the login interface ( press login button to go next page)
the second page is where I have to select the server ( image processing (page 3) ) and client ( another vi  receive data from the server via TCP/IP (localhost))
page 3 as I said  contains image processing
so my problem is when I open the client I can't use it until I close the first app
maybe the images will clarify better

I encountered a problem that "mouse down notify event" is not working after I reinstalled LabVIEW 2017. I used the break point to monitor is "mouse down" trigger when I click on VI pane, but it was nothing triggered when I click on the VI front pannel. 

And I found the order of "Pane > mouse down notify event" was place outside of "Mouse" category in pull down menu, which is different from other normal PC (In the normal operating PC, the "Mouse down" notify event is in "Mouse category".)

I'm not sure is any incorrect setting in my OS(Window 10 64 bits, LabVIEW 2017 32bits ) or something wrong during the installed process then cause the abnormal situation?

EasyDAQ are also producing variations : USB only version, I2C- SPI only version, RS232 only version. Any of the configurations can be supplied without onboard power supply or without relay opto-isolation. This means there are a possible 16 variations available to customers. EasyDAQ offer optional bespoke software.

There are 8 opto-isolated, 120V, 3A signal relays and 8 3V to 60V, AC/DC, opto-isolated voltage sensing inputs. The 4 communication options are USB, RS232, I2C and SPI.

This board has 3 powering options : USB power, External 5V DC with reverse polarity protection, External 7 to 24V DC with reverse polarity protection and Regulated 5V output on the external 5V terminal for powering hardware. 

Two LEDs indicate data transfers between control hardware and the relay board for help with debugging and testing.

Each relay channel or voltage sensing input has its own LED to indicate status.

The board has been designed with future expansion in mind including access to 8, 5V DIO channels connected to the main controller and a further 8 3V3 DIO channels connected to the I2C/SPI port if this option is fitted. The programming pins for the control processor are also available to enable re-purposing of the board by loading application specific software.

The board is commanded via simple single ASCII characters (+ status byte). I.e a 2 byte pair. These are commands that address each port of the PIC processor device (Hex equivalent shown in brackets). The board can be controlled using a Terminal emulator if connected via USB or RS232.

In order to test operation, the board can be connected to a serial port and controlled from a terminal emulator program such as “PuTTY” or “Realterm”.

If the I2C/SPI option is fitted then the board can be controlled directly from another processor such as an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone etc.

The communications via the I2C or SPI are managed by a NXP SC16IS750 I2C/SPI to serial converter.

The output of Get Date/Time in Seconds shows the correct time according to the timezone set on the Raspberry Pi.  But, the Seconds to Date/Time and the Date/Time to Seconds seems to interpret the time input as UTC regardless of how the to UTC flag is set. 

I want the Cluster of time elements be in my timezone as well.  Is the only way to handle this to manually correct for the timezone offset?  I can get the timezone offset through a python script so it is possible to do as a workaround.  But these functions don't seem to work properly on the Raspberry Pi.

NI hasn't made any post about timelines, or other details yet but I hear those are in the works.

This is obviously a huge thing for LabVIEW as any monetary barrier to entry will discourage new developers from experimenting with LabVIEW.  And then there is the fact that those that are familiar with LabVIEW, can keep up with the newest version outside of their company, or when they are between jobs.

I've managed to get the runtime happy enough to run on the RockPi S, a 64bit quad core SBC that's a third the size of a Pi. The LabVIEW stuff is still 32bit of course but this opens the door for supporting even more devices.

One of the tricks I pulled to get it to work is to first enable armhf (32bit packages) on the RockPi, manually edit the lvrt20-schroot package metadata to remove its dependencies on schroot and python since it was trying to install the 32 bit versions, and just manually install those packages before manually installing the edited lvrt20-schroot package. I also needed to install netbase for the labview service to start and I installed binutils to get the tools on the RockPi to unpack and repack the package.

I'm looking to automate this process but I'm not sure how to do all the architecture specifications from the commandline. If anyone has insight on easy ways to accomplish this I'd love to hear them so I can extrapolate this to other devices as well (looking at the Banana Pi M2 Zero next).

I am facing issue in labview programming. My vi read csv file in a folder and plot it in waveform graph. Initially i have twenty csv file in that folder, while runnning my vi some more csv files will be added to that folder. The problem is only twenty csv file initially placed got read, later added csv files were not read by labview. 

Condition: Once my vi starts running, the files will be automatically added to that folder. Because i am running an experiment which stores data in the form of csv file to that folder. How to keep on read the csv files continuosly while my experiments stores series of csv files.

Is OpenG not available for LabVIEW NXG 5.0? When I try to install it via the NI Package Manager I see version 3. Then when I want to install it, I see that the NI Package Manager wants to install LabVIEW NXG 3.0... so I understand that OpenG is only available for LabVIEW NXG 5.0?

I am excited to try out the new version and have a few questions about 5.0 NXG Community Edition.

1. Can I download and use it for my commercial application as I have a valid Software Reference Library license?
2. Does it install to its own special location that is going to be different from 5.0 NXG full version?
3. Am I crazy for attempting to install it straight onto my dev PC that I actually need to do work on? (NXG in a VM is a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons).

So, I have a little experience in Arduino and I know the basics for LabView. Now I'm in a point that I know that with Arduino I'll not take the best from LabView. I cannot even deploy a code to it.

So, there is where my question comes in...
I'm looking for a new board better then Arduino to use in the classes. I would buy a MyRIO card if I had the money but in Brazil this board is too expensive for me
 Witch one should I get that is closest to myRIO and less expensive than that? I would like to try de deployment of a VI and FPGA..... Is this possible?

I'm using the NI LabVIEW for CompactRIO Developer's Guide as a reference, although I don't have any embedded experience. Also, I use the Makerhib LINX library to interface with the RPi (available on VIPM). LINX running on the RPi is an embedded Linux application, although it's not real-time. Also, it's basically a headless application (you can't view FP's on a monitor connected to the RPi), although you can develop and run VIs in interactive mode i.e. view your front-panels on the development PC. The headless mode is ultimately how I want to use it anyway, with a TCP server on the RPi, and a TCP client on a PC/Laptop/etc. Another thing is that RPi running LINX only works on LabVIEW 2014. I'm using the Home edition as it gives access to the Control and Simulation package, plus MathScript (neither used in this architecture).

The system in this example is very simple as shown below. The current architecture I have is also shown. The RPi simply reads the temperature and Alert signal of a PmodTMP3 sensor in a Main Processing Loop, updates the UI via another loop using CVT data, and turns an LED on if the temperature is above a set limit. 

Some points on the server/RPi side:

1. The 'Main Processing Loop' is a sequencer which reads and writes the signals as mentioned above, but it also has a queue so commands can be sent to the RPi. Commands in the example are 'Set Temp Limit' and 'Set Temp Hysteresis'. These commands are sent by the client and processed by the TCP Receiver, where events are triggered for the Event Handler to add the commands to the Main Loop queue.
2.  I use CVT to pass relevant values between loops i.e. 'Main Processing Loop' -> 'TCP Send', and 'Main Processing Loop' -> 'UI Update'.
3.  I use STM for TCP functionality, as I find the Connection Manager makes life a lot easier.
4. The TCP Sender sends data to any connected clients, the data being the temperature and alert values.
5. Because of the embedded nature, standard button press functionality in events is not available on the RPi side, so to shut down the code in interactive mode, I use a Stop button and event in the Main Processing Loop.
6. I use a global Stop value to stop loops when I want to close the program. This seems to be used a lot in CRIO applications. Any better solutions?
7.  I'd like to have the Main Processing Loop as a sub-vi so that I can tidy up the block diagram, but I can't work out how to do this (because of the Stop button used in the loop). As mentioned, standard events can't be used, and neither can references to FP controls (unless I'm missing something). Any suggestions on how to solve this? Same question for the UI Update loop. (Note it wouldn't be a problem in a headless application as I would have it free-running, and use commands from the client to shut-down the program). 

There's not much going on on the Client side:

1.  I have a TCP Receiver which updates the temperature and alert signal values on the client UI.
2.  I have an event handler which sends Temperature Limit and Hysteresis commands back to the client.

So my general questions are, does anything really suck, any suggestions for improvement, etc. I also have questions on sharing the RPi connection resource so that I can have more than one processing loop (e.g. one for collecting data from the RPi, another for writing commands to the RPi), but I'll leave that for another thread.

I've attached the code, but there may be an issue with dependencies. As mentioned, the code uses STM, CVT and LINX add-ons. Anything else missing should not be a problem in looking at the architecture.

I have some experience with image processing using NI IMAQdx and some standard cameras and line scans, but I don't have much knowledge about the camera interface. Now I would like to do some home projects which using NI IMAQdx but with lower budget camera with decent quality. I found some wireless camera on eBay but the quality is not really good (I think so). There is just a new Raspberry PI camera on the market (http://www.raspberrypi.org/product/camera-module/)

I am collecting information on how to using this camera. I know that I have to use a Raspberry PI model B to connect to this camera but it only provides the features to monitor camera directly. Now I wonder how hard it is to make a IP camera with this Raspberry Pi with camera. I am not an expert in linux as well as C program but I am wiling to learn. Anyone can give me some idea what and where I need to look for. Or another camera option?
