Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to the http://jkisoft.com/state-machine/' rel='nofollow' target="_blank">JKI State Machine. It's worth your while to learn.

I've attached something for you to start with. If you like it, take the time to watch the videos on JKI's site, read whatever you can find on the forum and post back here if you have any trouble filling it out for your application. If you don't like it ( :o ), post your code here and we'll see what we can do to help you.

  3. I saw the Denzel Washington movie Deja Vu this weekend and (except for one unnecessary scene) thought it was the best movie I'd seen in a long time. Did anyone else catch the SNL reference when they were sending the note back in time? "I need more cowbell!" That was great!

"Guess what?! I've got a fever, and the only prescription... is more cowbell!"

    What else I should do?

You should take advantage of the option to mark a question for review. I did this when I took the test a few years ago and was pleased with that feature of the testing system. It turned out that I had to mark most of them the first time through because I wasn't confident with my answer. I kept going through the test until I had unmarked all of them, then I submitted my test and found I had passed.

    Good luck!

    Hey all,

just wanna pop in an say howdy.

Hi Mark, welcome to LAVA. Don't feel at all bad about asking questions; folks around here love to help (just try to search for the answers before asking the forum). You're welcome to think of this as your island in a sea of information.

    Kind of like a Gilligan's island... :P

Now that that's out of the way...

Iam looking foward (if you dont mind) to ask you in case I come across any other problem.
Ask any time. Have fun learning LabVIEW; this forum is full of folks that will help.

I included a link to an icon editor written by one of the LAVA contributors. It's a really neat way to identify your VIs by using colors, categories and text. A bit like you did, but on steroids.

    QUOTE

I was just suggesting that hard-coding the password into your program means that you'd need to build a new executable in order to change the password. That's fine if you're working on your desktop, but some folks need to release software through their Quality department and can't be modifying software every time a password is compromised (like when a user writes it on the monitor...).

    QUOTE

I've never used that function and I can't recall ever seeing it used. LabVIEW help says this about it: "Before you call this function with a TRUE input, be sure to complete all final tasks for the VI first, such as closing files, setting safe values for devices being controlled, and so on." I brought this up because you probably don't need it.

Are you familiar with State Machines? They have advantages over the stacked sequence structure; they're worth learning. (I like the , myself.)

    I don't know about this...

There are many ways to crack a nut. There's probably not a correct way, only a better way.

  9. QUOTE (ASTDan @ Dec 20 2008, 12:02 AM)

If you are on a budget and are disciplined the NI course books are great!

    Dan

I agree with Dan; the books are great. I learned LabVIEW by reading those books, reading other people's code, studying the practice exams and asking a lot of questions. LAVA is the right place to come if you want to ask lots of questions while you're going through the books  .

  10. QUOTE (alfa @ Dec 15 2008, 03:01 AM)

Saturday I read that Ramana Maharshi(his picture is on my website) who gave advices all his life to others asked the doctor permission to eat figs during the last year of his life.

How did he know it was the last year of his life?
