Type Defs For The Diagram

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this would be useful to anyone else, but I would really enjoy having a way to create a strict type def of a structure that was created on the diagram. ie like a state machine. I know you can use vi templates for the state machine but it would be nice to have certain structures that are constantly created to be a type def to just drop them onto the diagram.

If there is a way to do this that I am missing, please let me know.

I think you can do that already!. I create regularly (strict typedefed) custom controls and insert them into the diagram to create constants which track possible changes to the data type.

You can include such custom controls both into the Controls as well the Functions palette to be inserted on the front panel and also on the diagram. I have verified this to at least work since version 6.1.

I think there was also a "snippet" example where a section of code could be added by drag and drop from a palette. This was a neat feature described in an issue of LTR. If I remember next time I am near my copies I'll see if I can dig it out.

cheers, Alex

This is an option for VI's added to a pallet menu. When editing the palette menu, right-click on the VI and make sure that the "Merge VI" option is selected. This will cause the VI's contents to be placed on the BD rather than having the VI placed as a SubVI.
