Getting IMX179 USB Camera Modules to work

I've purchased two separate USB cameras, and turns out they both use the IMX179 CMOS sensor: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WFQOTM2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

and

I tried on two different Macs, and on a virtual Windows 7 using Parallels. In programs such as VLC, Skype, and Photo Booth, the camera is recognized - I can choose between the Macbooks built-in FaceTime camera, or the 8MP camera. But the 8MP view is either all green, or nothing shows up. With many other USB cameras (5MP or lower), I've had no problems.

Any ideas on how to get it to work? Does anyone know of a more suitable program I should use to get input from USB cameras?
