Chris Megdanoff Posted December 4, 2008 Report Share Posted December 4, 2008 Job Title: Test Engineer Department: Operations Reports to: Director of Operations General Summary Plans, designs, fabricates and implements production/manufacturing tests for new and existing products and systems, applying knowledge and principles of high speed optoelectronic theory, testing methodology and procedures, and electrical engineering. Additionally, the Test Engineer is the manufacturing representative and interface for all test engineering tasks with respect to design engineering and new product introductions. Proficiency with development and use of testing software and hardware is required. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Problem solves issues with emphasis on systems, modules, electrical components and high speed interfaces. Develops software, hardware, detailed work instructions and procedures for product test. Develops manufacturing test criteria and product acceptance standards as part of new product introduction. Transfers new product from the NPI process into manufacturing meeting product launch dates. Characterizes test/manufacturing processes and drives to increases in manufacturing yields and efficiencies. Testing and operation of high speed, multi-Gb data rate, optical transmitter and receiver type components utilizing equipment such as network analyzers, bit error rate test systems, and high bandwidth oscilloscopes. Provides training and coaching to technicians on new tests, test methodologies, diagnosis and repair. Contributes the development of the manufacturing strategy of the business. Other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent related work experience. Two years experience in relevant electronics, semiconductor or optoelectronics field. Strong analytical and problem solving skills to address quantitative issues and good verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of software and hardware development for optoelectronic products with emphasis in USB, GPIB, Agilent VEE and or NI Labview. Familiarity with process/manufacturing engineering, Lean Manufacturing PFMEA and Six Sigma highly desirable. Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Visio, Project and PowerPoint. CAD and Statistical Software knowledge a plus. Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with all levels with the organization. Must be able to operate independently and set own priorities with a minimum level of supervision. Ability to stand and/or walk 40% of the time; sit and work with a computer or printed data 60% of the time; carrying, holding, lifting and reaching may be required.
