Job Title: Engineer, LabVIEW Software, Research & Development Reports To: Manager, Software Engineering Group/Division: Air Quality Instruments / Environmental Instruments Division Career Band: 3 Location: Franklin, MA Position Summary: Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Environmental Instruments Division is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer with a proven track record in the area of LabVIEW programming. This is a challenging hands-on engineering position that requires an innovative and goal-oriented individual with strong verbal and written communication abilities. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary product development team and will design, test, document and maintain both embedded and PC-based software products that will be integrated into state of the art analytical instrumentation. This position will report to the Software Engineering Manager for the Research and Development and Engineering Departments. Key Duties and Responsibilities: · Support and maintain software for new product written in National Instrument LabVIEW, · Work with new product development teams to design test interfaces using LabVIEW during early development stages. · Specify, design, code, and test firmware for analytical instruments and associated PC software; · Support design of instrument user interface and develop simulation tools as required; · Develop software algorithms and data structures as required; · Work with new product development teams including electrical engineers, software engineers, chemists, scientists, marketing, and project leaders in the development of analytical instrumentation products; · Work with new product development teams to review instruction manuals and sales literature; · Provide software support to new product development project teams, technical services, and production; · Adhere to company code style, revision control, configuration management, and documentation standards. Qualifications: · Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, software, electrical engineering, or other related science or engineering field. · 3+ years experience designing, coding and deploying applications in National Instruments LabVIEW (preferably for interfacing with analytical instrumentation). · Desirable certifications include CLAD or CLD. · Front-end graphical user interface design. · Experience in C/C++/Java programming desired. · Experience programming for Linux operating systems desired. · Conversant in microprocessor hardware and able to read schematics and component specifications to design and code software. · Knowledge of serial and Ethernet protocols to communicate between PCs and embedded systems. · Knowledge of CVS or other source control system · Microsoft Office experience required (especially Word and Excel) · Practical Process Improvement (PPI) or equivalent continual improvement process such as six sigma preferred · Strong work ethic, organizational, and communication skills
