About Me
First computer I used was a Bendix G15. Tubes. To alert the operator, it had a "ring bell" command which rang a bell. An actual bell. University of California, Berkeley. My professors included Wirth (Pascal) and Huskey (ENIAC).
Got into LabVIEW with 5.0 at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, building the control system for the Beamlet Laser (the predecessor to NIF). Often thought we had taken LV a long way from the originator's intentions, but, heck, it worked just fine. Multiple computers, intranet function coordination, subordinate smart controls. A great assignment.
Sometime in there, I got loaned to a summer intern who had no budget but had inherited a LV 2.0 license. Really made me appreciate 5.0.
Officially, I am retired now. Freelancing out of my home. Currently doing a consulting job for a very interesting silicon valley start-up, using LV 8.6. They have first call on my time, but beyond that I am available.
I am a hardware/software hybrid person. I can take a process control situation from the selection of sensors, cabling, routing, signal conditioning, I/O, right to the GUI. From the years (20) at LLNL, I am very good at doing sensitive instrumentation in high noise environments. Also good at noise problems, grounding, and shielding in general.
