About Me

Hi, I'm Ben Zimmer and I'm the President of Enable Training and Consulting, Inc.

The company name wasn't an accident. We truly strive to enable all of  our customers. And they have quite a range: from huge multinational  corporations, like Bosch Rexroth, to Grade 2 students playing with LEGO.

In short, I like to say that our goal is to stand squarely in both the  educational and high-tech worlds, providing training, consulting, and  curriculum development for all ages which is second to none.

Personally, I've been a LabVIEW programmer since the summer of 1994,  when my then boss handed me a huge box of about 30 3.5" floppy disks  (remember those?!?) and asked me to figure this "thing" out. That thing  was LabVIEW.

At that time, I was an undergraduate student, taking a combined degree  in Math and Physics, and what I loved about LabVIEW was that it was a  tool for problem solving. Unlike all of my programming courses, syntax,  linkers/compilers and semantics did not get in the way.

The best thing that boss ever did for me was to challenge me to write  software which could find things in signals which he knew were there,  because he could "see them on the scope!" (Yeah, you try it!) There’s no  greater way to learn than that.

I got that degree, and then a Masters from University of Waterloo in  Applied Math, then began working in and providing consulting services to  a variety of industries. I spent many years focusing on the Automation  industry, working on advanced systems and assembly lines, ranging from  small to systems to $10M lines. That work included electrical test  systems, motion, vision, data analysis, supervisory systems, and a  variety of other applications.

I decided to leave that industry when I got the opportunity to teach at  Humber College in Toronto (http://www.humber.ca...liedtechnology/). At  around the same time, I founded ETC, and have been thrilled at the  exciting and challenging work we’ve been doing, as well as the amazing  team I’ve assembled.

We’re proud to service such great clients as LEGO Education, National  Instruments, FIRST Robotics, and Bosch. I’m just as proud of the work we  do helping clients who purchase as little as a couple hours of online  consulting from us. Our goal is to enable companies and individuals to  bring their capabilities to light!
