    GPIB spying

Hi Guys; I have an ancient machine (PC)that communicate with another ancient black box! They are working fine at the moment! (but may die soon!) Here is my problem! The ancient PC is running a DOS software (in Windows NT). I have no access to the source code just and EXE file. (possibly will never see the code too!) The EXE software communicates with the black box via GPIB. What I want to do is: 1- Replace the DOS software and developed a new Labview Software 2- Communicate with the Black box that does the actual test and get the results (Simulating the old machine?!) I know that it is possible to use NI-Spy to look at the GPIB bus and record the data. but for that I may need to stop the production (That is NO NO) But I was thinking, is it possible to monitor (sniff) the bus with another computer? i.e. I want to let the ancient machine to run the test using the ancient black box and then have a third unit to just look (and record) whatever those two guys were talking about! After that, it should be easy to replace the ancient machine! Any idea/suggestion? Thanks Hamid
  2. Hey Michael; Is a person who posts once a while is also a lurker? Well, as you know I do post rarely, so I guess I am just a shy one! I think "lurker" is a bit negative. I like "shy" better! Cheers Hamid
  3. Hi CRBreingan; I think you may be able to use GigE for your camera. Ni has a GigE card (PCIe-8231) but then you will need to have image acquisition software as well. Using TCP/IP sounds a cheap and easy way to start with. Clearly after you have access to your image (jpg, etc) then you will need to pass it to NI-IMAQ (image processing software) for further proceesing. by the way, in the past I have used Data Socket and I think it was very slow! Very very slow... Just my thoughts!
  4. QUOTE (crelf @ Sep 9 2008, 12:18 PM) Chris; Thank you very much. Unfortunately we don't have a PXI system here! Much appreciated mate Ta
  5. QUOTE (crelf @ Sep 8 2008, 12:36 PM) PCI please! Thank you
  6. Hi; For a special test, I need to buy (or borrow or rent, or beg, if possible) an Analog NI frame grabber.(i.e. 1405, 1409, 1410, or 1411.) Any one of the above is fine. Does anybody have one? Please email me directly (hamid.yazdi@yahoo.com) Thank you PS. I know NI sells them too, but for a simple test paying 650 bucks for a piece of hardware that is almost obsolete, is a bit too much!
  7. I will be there this year (staying in OMNI) and hopefully see you guys at Lava BBQ.
  8. Hi; your question is not clear? Do you want to detect the object automatically or you want to use the ROI automatically? Could you explain a bit more? Hamid
  9. Jack; I had a quick look at this program. It has a fundamental flaw! (I am surprised that you did not notice that!) The actual filter size is NOT connected to the input of subvi! Hence, changing the filter size does not change anything. (The default value of 20 is considered!) I tried various figures and found out that this algorithm is basically kind of enhanced edge detection followed by dynamic histogram stretch and the auro thresholding. It maybe OK for some application, but it maybe slow for large size filters. Regards Hamid PS. Are you going to be in NI week?
