  1. Thanks, Chris! I've had a blast working with you and the passionate, intelligent, awesome LAVA folks. I'll still be following along online as you build things like the awesome graffiti art demo, and fully expect to see you at NIWeek later this year.
  2. Hi Lava Members- Since you all play a huge role in our NI Community, I wanted to update you on two cool events going on at NIWeek. The first event is the Community Exchange, which is a two-day track of sessions based on community-driven innovations and new technologies. Some sessions you all may be interested in are: 1. LabVIEW Features from the Idea Exchange Explore the 14 new features suggested by the community and implemented by R&D Tuesday, August 3 2:15–3:15 p.m. Room 11A 2. Popcorn Tweets: LabVIEW Goes Viral Learn how the world’s first Twitter-powered popcorn machine, programmed in LabVIEW, became a viral video Tuesday, August 3 1:00–2:00 p.m. Room 11A 3. The Blogosphere’s Best Hear from the top NI bloggers on topics including LabVIEW Robotics, large application development, multicore programming, virtualization, and blogging best practices Wednesday, August 4 10:30–11:30 a.m. Room 11A 4. LabVIEW Add-On of the Year Gain an overview of the Compatible with LabVIEW program guidelines and view in-depth product demonstrations from the finalists and winner. Wednesday, August 4 1 - 2 p.m. Room 11A 5. People's Choice Award Winner Chris Relf will discuss Long-Term Investment in Test As we build our way back from challenging economic times, many companies are investing in long-term test platforms. Gain an introduction to platform-based architectures, and learn about NI software and hardware used by industry leaders, how to implement these tools using NI software development environments, and hardware technologies including distributed/shared resources. Wednesday, August 4 4:45- 5:45 Room 11A You can see all of the sessions in the community exchange here. The second event is a mobile barcode scavenger hunt during the NI Community Block Diagram Party. Mobile barcodes are 2D codes that your smart phone’s camera can read to serve up information, or “clues,” attached to the code. Prizes for the scavenger hung include Amazon and itunes gift cards, iPods, LabVIEW iPhone covers (3G) and the grand prize is a new XBox 360 - I'm sure all of these things would make awesome LAVA BBQ door prizes. To learn more about how to participate in the mobile barcode scavenger hunt you can watch a how-to video. See ya'll next week! Deirdre
  3. Hey, guys. If you can believe it, we are already getting ready for NIWeek 2010. I wanted to let you encourage you all to enter the 2010 Graphical System Design Achievement Awards, If you do, you could win a free conference pass to NIWeek. If your technical paper is selected as a finalist, you will be invited to attend the awards ceremony, where winners are announced and celebrated by NI leadership, industry trade press and other industry VIPs. Submit a 800-1200 word description of your application, built using NI technologies in one of the Application Categories. But hurry, the submission deadline is April 2. 4. QUOTE (JiMM @ Aug 3 2008, 09:34 AM) The Coding Challenge Finals are going to be in LabVIEW 8.6 One of the goals of the finals is to promote the new Quick Drop feature in LabVIEW 8.6; thus, Darren and his super-fast awesomeness with Quick Drop. If you would like to bring some homemade tools so that you're more comfortable with the programming environment, then by all means be my guest. The station will be only be available for about 15 minutes before the competition starts, unless you want to do it RIGHT after the keynote before any of the events in the Technology Theater start. You're going to get a sweet prize either way, by being the fastest competitor during the week. Let me know if you have any other questions. Regards,
