Do a self test on a DAQ device before each once-a-day test?

I had a long term test fail because something happened to the USB-6251 DAQ device (still don't know what happened). When I accessed it via MAX, it said it failed the self test. I reset the device and then everything was OK. So now I'm wondering if I should program a self test before my measurement (only happens once a day) and reset the device if it doesn't respond.
