How do I disable membership renewing each year?

I have an aversion to allowing memberships to renew automatically, call me old fashioned but I want to know when money is being taken from me once a year.

When I follow the process for paying I never see an option to disable renewals, even though it is refereed to on the site. Does the option exist, or has it been removed?

If all else fails I will generate a one use credit card number.
