COM Port Not Recognized in LabVIEW

Hey all,

I am having trouble with LabVIEW recognizing my communications ports on my notebook computer. I have one serial com port (COM1) built into the dock for my notebook as well as a USB to Serial connector (COM4). Both are working properly and are detected by Windows under Device Manager.

Unfortunately for me, the VISA Find Resource tool does not recognize any of my communications ports, and with all VISA Open connections there isn't anything in the dropdowns.

Has anyone else had this problem? Hoping it is just a quickfix in LabVIEW.

Thanks in advance.

Did you open MAX and see if it shows up under ports.

I've had systems where the Visa contol will only display the instrument name

ASRL1::INSTR instead of the alias COM1.

You could try manually entering the instrument name in the visa control and see if it works.

Hmm I just noticed that the NI Visa Server didnt even install. With my frustration I was going ahead in reinstalling LabVIEW until I noticed that some components did not install for some odd reason.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
