recognition of registers of cars

I am a student(portuguese) and am now to initiate in labview. The problem is that I have one project to make in school, that is to make the recognition of registers of cars.

The question is that I do not know very well as to make the recognition of registers cars in imaq and later establishing connection with labview to make the wrong or good choice of them. And how to become this process automatic.

This acquisition is made with one camera.
