An alien's view of Detroit

Well, I've been here for a year now, so I thought I'd give you all a look at my home away from home:

Ouch! :o

Although there are too many areas like those depicted in the video, I don't think this video sums up the city. :nono:

I work for a German auto supplier, and many of our vistors from Germany are quite shocked that most of the Detroit area is much nicer than our reputation.

I think you're misunderstood me - I live out in the suburbs, where it's affluent and pretty-much main-street USA, so yes, the "area of Detroit" isn't represented in the video, but I do think it is a pretty fair representation of the downtown area of the city of Detroit. Also, and I don't mean that in a disparraging way at all, so your "ouch" is certainly unjustified: Detroit is my favorite city in the US, so, again, you've misunderstood me. I get downtown as ofter as I can (great bars, resturants, atmosphere, and the Tigers!), and I truly think that it's a beautiful city in its own way - although the start of the film shows some grafitti and run-down buildings, it's still beautiful (and who in the US can say that their city doesn't have at least some of the same?). There was no malice in my post - none at all - so if you read it that way then perhaps it's your perception that's clouding your perception :P
