Real time communication betwen NXT and PC

Hi,

I would like to buy a NXT kit to build a robotic arm. I would like to integrate this in a bigger project. So, my question is if it is possible to communicate in real time betwen the NXT controler and a PC (running a LV application), wich would be the mainframe of the robot.
