  1. Haha! And why would you want to do that? ;)

Of course you couldn't have got more up front to the room than Norm did when he was pulling faces in front of the main camera (hilarious)

I think Ed got a good photo of it - has it been posted anywhere? I was classic.

It's been in the gallery for a few days now.

Although the gallery is not as full as usual. Guess Michael hasn't had time to upload all his stuff yet...

I want to send a special thank you to a few people. First of all, thanks to François, Jon (jgcode), and Mark for letting me tag along with you practically everywhere.

Sure was cool to have you around. I still don't have a clear picture of what a cow-orker looks like though. :P

  2. Hmmm. I would be curious to see the "NOT" 7-segment display. You would have to be fairly young to not know what a 7-segment display is.

Here were the two proposed solutions. I'm sure Rob knew what a 7-segment was, but he just tried another way that could look like it and beat Darren. His way was easier to visualize on the BD, but I agree that it would have been a hard decision on the judges.

EDIT: Saw that last post by Darren too late.

  3. Howdy!

Daklu and I think it would be great if everyone interested in this project could catchup at NI Week 2010 (if you are going) to discuss LapDog further and get the ball rolling.

If this is you, please post here (from what I could see the maximum people is 5 for a PM conversation, so we will use this thread instead).

So if you are keen please reply to this thread - I am thinking we will play by ear to find the best time to meet.

    Regards

    JG

    Jon & Daklu,

I'd like to join to see if there's something I can modestly contribute. I'm no LVOOP expert but I do love to play around with LVOOP & Scripting.

  4. It's nice they put that on the palette but I've been using it for a while, it's one of those nuggests in the Vi.lib that most people don't know about.

Yes, in the Utility folder... having them at hand without the need to put a link manually in the palette is great.

Is it me or it's the only LVOOP goodie this year?

  5. Alright, I figured it out if anyone is interested.

You just have to create a VI, "Action.vi" and a text file "Action.txt" and drop it in the "project" folder if you want it put there.

The display of the menu item is just the contents of the txt file. If you want to create a sub-menu, just create a folder and follow the same directions as above.

specifically when you right-click on an item

Sorry I didn't understand what you meant. I was under the impression you wanted to edit the LabVIEW right -click menus just like it was a .mnu file.

You can do the same as you stated above for other menus too (File, Help & Tools). See the wiki page here.

  6. Hey guys,

I'm trying to make some modifications to the project explorer menu items, specifically when you right-click on an item (e.g. Right-click -> Make VI a Template, bad example but you get the picture). Is there a way to modify these (and other) menu items in LabVIEW; and more importantly that modify, make them usable?

    Thanks,

    Adam

As of today, I know only of the Right-Click Framework from JKI to do that in the development environment.

Don't know if NI plans something for the future. It's been a feature request for some time now. The RCF certainly does the job and you can customize it to your will.

  7. Did you know, someone on LAVA posted an extension to the Report Generation Toolkit that allowed it to create Open Office Documents? Word 2007 and Open Office can create PDF's from any type of file they can read, so you might be able to use these programs to create PDF's of the documents you create from the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit.

It's a little off-topic but I wanted to say that the RGT extension is still primitive (version 0.x, text documents only) and doesn't allow to save in PDF yet. Actually, last year when I started this project, the "Save as PDF" wasn't ready in the OADL 1.2 version I used as a backplane. I think it's ready now in a later version but didn't have time to work on it.

And now back to your original programming.

  8. So this crash also uncovered a feature request. If the target element is a part of the source-cluster, insert a 'Unbundle by name' node.

  9. Nice tool, (why wasn't I using this before???)

However I got it to crash LabVIEW.

I had a cluster (A) that contained another cluster (B).

B is a typedef, and it is the input of a VI.

So I connected A into the VI, this was broken of course, I activated this tool and I got a 'beep', and then LabVIEW hang. just plain hang.

Using Alt-tab I saw a VI-window that looked like the wire that I had selected, but I couldn't activate that VI (I believe the wire selection color is a 'modal' VI. But all I could do was right click on the Windows task-bar and select 'close windows' then in a split-second LabVIEW was closed. After starting up I got a 'adfjosdiafjipf.cpp crash' , I didn't investigate, but maybe I should have written down what exactly crashed.

So this crash also uncovered a feature request. If the target element is a part of the source-cluster, insert a 'Unbundle by name' node.

    Hi Ton,

I'm not sure I understand what happened to crash LV. Do you mean that the framework's semi-transparent selection superposition couldn't be closed (modal and in background)? If that's the case, I don't think I can do anything with my coding. That would be part of the framework itself.

Anyway, the Unbundle suggestion is great. I'll try to implement it once I find the source code for the plugin... frusty.gif

I seem to have develop that on a machine that I've since let go of. I hope I don't have to rebuild it from the vip file. (Well, if it comes to that, there are about twelve VIs to relink, so not a big problem).

  10. "Authentic cowboy boots?"

What makes a cowboy boot authentic? Has it been pre-worn by an authentic cowboy? Does it come complete with cow dung stains?

laugh.gif In the latter case, it's got to be dried for at least two weeks if you want to take it back with you. (Question 11d)

On a related note, I was in Texas last February and attended a small rodeo event. I was browsing the shops and asked the cowboy hat vendor if his hats were American-made because I didn't want to buy something imported from the other side of the globe. He hesitated just enough that I understood it was made in Mexico, but since Mexicans also were cowboy hats, I thought it was authentic enough.
