I wrote a Labview program once to control a stepper motor via parallel port, but it sounds like you've already got that and want something else. But I'm not sure how "directly" you can control your stepper motor via RS232; I'd think there's got to be more hardware involved, and if you tell us what that is maybe someone here could help.
