Need help to build a GPS system

Hi,

I 've just thought about building a GPS device which include of reading the current position data from GPS receiver modem connect through USB and loading the map data from a database using LabVIEW. I think maybe I can use this application on my car. I am trying to find document about this topic on internet but I cannot find out how to use a map data and how to load it. If anyone have experience working with GPS map before, please give me some instructions.

I will add another features later, I just one to try some basic steps first .
