Why don't you just open the VI and have a look in its properties dialog? Also, note that since it includes a write, it probably only matters if it's reentrant if you're working on two different objects at the same time, as presumably the framework will lock the cluster if you're working on a single instance.

What really annoys me is when LV grabs onto files which were opened by completely separate applications. Examples I remember are MP3 or AVI files which I opened with Media Player Classic (by double clicking them in an Explorer window) and then for some reason LV opened one or more handles to them, thus preventing their deletion (I saw it's LV by using a third party program and by the fact that I can delete them immediately after I close LV). The main problem is that I can't reproduce this reliably. I have no idea what's causing it. AQ, is it worth reporting such a thing?

Get a list of cities from the Internet ("list of cities" in Google might be a good start) and push it into a combo box or a ring by creating a property node for the control and using the Strings[] property. If you want to do this by country, you can create a text file for each country, use the list of files to populate the country list, then read the selected file and use that to populate the city list. If you can't find a simple list online, you can write code which will extract the list. What you basically do is use Datasocket Read and append "[text]" to the end of the URL to get the data as a string. You can then parse the HTML to get the relevant links and names. The exact code will depend on the page in which the information is found. Of course, you could also consider not including the feature.

First, this last post is much easier to read than your other posts. You can improve it more by not using capital letters in random words and by using the spell checker before posting. Also, if you happen to have someone near you who speaks English, having them go over your posts would be good. If you're really serious about learning English, you should consider taking a course. As for LabVIEW, there's a version called the Student Edition which costs a lot less, but is only officially available in schools. If you're a recent student you can try getting it through your school or by talking directly to your local NI office (who might be willing to help). Another option is buying a Mindstorms NXT. I *think* that if you get that, you are entitled to get LabVIEW 7.1 for free (if you request it), but I'm not sure. There was a German computer magazine (CT) which should have LabVIEW 6.1 available on their site for free, but I believe it's only in German and only for Linux.

What kind of person brags about how convenient they are when other people have bad weather? Actually, I much prefer the hot weather to the cold. And I live in what is (at least officially) one of the hottest places on Earth - Check out #3 (you may note the ~-200m elevation. This means that in the cold nights of winter it can get close to -10C/15F).

There was an issue where opening a menu and leaving it open (or any number of other actions) would block a vital component of LabVIEW known as the "root loop", which would cause behavior of this type. I have no idea if this is what's happening in your case, but if it is, then presumably clicking in the FP will close the menu, thus releasing the root loop.

The first part certainly sounds reasonable, but the question then becomes "How easy is it to regenerate the code?". With the OpenG VIs it's very simple - you open the typedef and add another element and you're done. With this, you will presumably have to edit the INI file and then regenerate the VI (with the same name) while working around issues like SCC checkouts, an icon, documentation, etc.

If that's what you want. Personally, I find it much easier to create the cluster in LabVIEW (and safer. No chance of typing something wrong). Also, when it comes the time to add an element to the cluster, it seems to me that this solution is harder than simply editing the cluster. MGI has VIs which are very similar to the OpenG VIs. They are much faster, but they only work on an entire file at once (so you can't work with just part of an INI file) and they only work in 8.x.

The code for generating the typedef and code itself is simple and nice, but there's absolutely no way I would stop using the other solutions (such as the OpenG VIs shown earlier or the MGI VIs) to use this. This will be difficult to read, difficult to edit and no easier to work with than the other solutions (see Jim's snippet which shows how easy it is to use them, and it becomes even easier when you need to add elements to the cluster).

OK, here's a recap of some of the things I experienced this past week: I saw people swimming in an outdoor pool (around 8 AM). I saw people sunbathing. I had lunch outside. For those who don't know this, Armaggedon comes from "Har Meggido", which means "Mount Meggido" in Hebrew, and it's about 35 minutes from where I live3. Not that there would be. The "mountain" is only a few hundred meters in height. The site is actually by a pretty major crossroads, hence its importance throughout history. There are always people hitchhiking there and I always thought the name "Hitchhiking at Armaggedon" would be a great name for a prog-rock album4. Don't you just love nested comments5? Help! How do I stop6? Aaaaaaaah!

Here are all 16 ideas I posted. Obviously, all of them are brilliant, so you should go vote for them (although some, and I won't say which, will already probably be in LV 2010, so no need to vote for those).

Rechecking to see if they're actually public is the only advice I can give (maybe there are different levels of "public" in .NET?). I can say that I ran into cases where stuff (I remember properties for sure, can't comment on constructors) was available inside .NET, but was not available in LabVIEW until it was marked as public. By the way, I seem to remember that there are some issue with .NET and LV 8.5, but I don't remember the details. See this thread for an example.
