  2. QUOTE (Aristos Queue @ Jul 8 2008, 07:48 PM) Now, there's your problem: Reentrant VI clones weren't designed to be used for user interfaces. You should be using VI Templates Next thing you know, you'll be asking to http://forums.lavag.org/Error-1446-Can-not-change-tip-strip-of-control-on-reenrant-instance-t10354.html' target="_blank">programmatically change FP control tip strips [just jabbing at you... sorry for not actually helping]
  3. Bob, Welcome to the club. I've posted a short welcome announcement here. Cheers, -Jim
  4. [cross-post] Hi All, I've written an article about a new feature in LabVIEW 8.5 that I think is really useful. LabVIEW 8.5 Feature - For Loop Conditional Terminal As usual, your feedback is most welcome Thanks, -Jim
  5. A unique identifier of your reusable VI is its name (including lvlib prefix, if applicable). For example, you can't (or shouldn't) have two different VIs installed in your user.lib folder that have the same name. So, creating an additional tracking ID is redundant. Also, if you have needs in this area, you might want to mention them to the VIPM team. I hear they have a great system for helping manage reusable VIs and this might be just the type of thing that's on their radar.
  6. QUOTE (boone_93 @ Jul 3 2008, 12:36 PM) Microsoft does get paid, but they don't win. Switching to Mac is one more step towards completely breaking away from Windows and the tradition of corporate desktop software that's released every 4 years (if you're lucky) and adds only more system instability issues.
  7. A sign that it's time to switch...
  8. At JKI, we look for great people who are and passionate about LabVIEW and have a minimum of CLD (CLA preferred), a history of significant contributions to the LabVIEW community (LAVA, OpenG, etc.), and a desire to make an impact on the world.
  9. QUOTE (Justin Goeres @ Jun 30 2008, 08:36 AM) That just goes to prove you can get to heaven using a ladder -- especially a very tall one.
  10. QUOTE (Justin Goeres @ Jun 30 2008, 08:29 AM) > Has anyone used it for anything else? I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you... or find some other way to keep you quiet > I think your point extends to nipples in general, does it not? "... throb... wants attention... frontmost... point... extends... nipples..." Is something on your mind?
  11. [cross-post] Hi All, I've written another article about some of the OpenG VI's I couldn't live without. I hope you find it useful. I couldn’t live without “Trim Whitespace” As usual, your feedback is most welcome Thanks, -Jim
  12. QUOTE (crelf @ Jun 26 2008, 05:56 PM) QUOTE (Yair @ Jun 27 2008, 03:45 AM) LEGOs have INSTRUCTIONS??? I knew there was something special about you guys
  13. You forgot to mention the sexy lingerie models.
  14. When I was little we had a plastic bucket full of legos. My mom would go to thrift stores (we didn't have much money) and buy used legos and add them to the bucket. I was too young to remember this, but my mother likes to tell a story of a friend of mine coming over to play legos and asking where the directions where. I said to him "legos have directions?" To this day, I'm not much of a "read the manual" kind of person. I have many happy memories of my bucket of legos and the unique things I would create.
  15. QUOTE (Tom Bress @ Jun 26 2008, 01:29 PM) Here's my list: The Hilton is great because it is across the street and is pretty nice (pool, etc.) -- This is where a lot of the LAVA'ers (including me) are staying. The Omni has the best service for the price -- the rooms aren't as big, since it's an older hotel. I saw Quentin Tarantino staying there, last year, when he was filming 66th Grand Prix of Monaco The Driskill is more expensive (although not ridiculous) and has the best service and a cool vibe (piano bar, hide-covered couches, etc). The Courtyard Austin Downtown-Convention Center is also very close.
  16. I bet he could get more money for his life if he had a girlfriend. But, then again, maybe that's why he's selling it (to raise the required capitol).
  17. QUOTE (Aristos Queue @ Jun 24 2008, 06:36 PM) Great info. I've added it to the http://wiki.lavag.org/LVClass' Data Storage Format' rel='nofollow' title='LabVIEW Wiki article on LVClass Data Storage Format' alt='Wiki article on LVClass Data Storage Format' style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #3366BB; color: #3366BB; cursor:pointer; text-decoration:none;" class="wiki">LVClass Data Storage Format wiki page.
  18. QUOTE (nhollenback @ Jun 24 2008, 03:57 PM) I don't think that my wife would let me leave the house wearing shorts with black socks (I've tried similar things and it set off the security system). BTW, are you coming to the LAVA/OpenG BBQ again this year, Nancy?
  19. QUOTE (Justin Goeres @ Jun 24 2008, 02:35 PM) No, wikipedia says he wears New Balance 992s -- I'm pretty sure that those in the picture are 991s. I just looked and the (newer) blue pair that I have are 992s. confession... my wife picks out my shoes
  20. QUOTE (tcplomp @ Jun 24 2008, 01:06 PM) It's been annoying me, too. I usually paste my path into there, as I have a Copy Path to Clipboard File Explorer shell extension and I usually paste into the path field. Now it takes me an extra mouse click and really breaks my workflow. On a related note, I wish I could drag and drop files into Firefox path inputs, like I can do with path controls in LabVIEW... -Jim Update: I just found this cool extension: dragdropupload
  21. QUOTE (tcplomp @ Jun 24 2008, 12:39 PM) I'll have you know that Jeff K. and I (and my college buddy, Keith) wear the same model (991) of gray New Balance sneakers. Actually, I have two pairs in gray and one pair in blue. I found this out at NIWeek last year, when I saw Jeff at the Samuel Majors meet and greet. You can just make out my blue sneakers in the photo of me and Samuel. And, when I'm not wearing my sneakers, you'll most likely find me wearing flip flops. There have even been days when all the JKI engineers (all four of us) show up to our team meeting wearing khaki shorts, flip flops, and a LabVIEW/NIWeek t-shirt. I guess the point is (although, I didn't really start this reply to make a point), if you're going to be assimilated, make sure you pick the right hive And, if you can't find one, start one. Ha! I just found the best photo of all: I'm even way cooler than I thought I was.
  22. QUOTE (Justin Goeres @ Jun 24 2008, 09:30 AM) $319.95? What, do they think Mac users (want you to think they) are made of money? [insert Mac-owners-are-snobs joke, here] But seriously, now that all the cool LAVA people are getting Macs (damn, I don't have one yet), do you think we can start a meme (that's for you Justin) that LAVA forum members use Macs and NI forums members use PCs? Hi, I'm a LAVA member... And, I'm a NI forums member... QUOTE (nhollenback @ Jun 24 2008, 11:56 AM) Psst... don't tell anyone, but I hear a few NI guys are running around with MBPs Ya, and they hang out in LAVA, too. Right, AQ?
  23. QUOTE (Chris Davis @ Jun 23 2008, 07:43 PM) I'm sure it will
  24. Thanks for all the info, Justin. I did look up some information about screens and found what I thought to be a good analysis here. The thing that I took away from the glossy/matte debate is the glossy is brighter under a variety of lighting conditions but matte has more accurate color and is better suited for graphics professionals.
  25. Congrat's! We're evaluating switching JKI engineers to the 17" MacBook Pro too. Which screen (resolution, glossy/non-glossy, etc?) did you end up getting? Which processor? How much RAM? I've very curious how it works for you.
