  1. I agree that NI changed DAQ, but just look at the huuuuge advancedments in LabVIEW in the last 3 versions! Sure, I was a big fan of 5.1.1 back in the day, but now I can't live without my project explorer. I think that this arguement is more about whether LabVIEW is a general purpose programming language, not whether NI is trying to change the world. Also, just because NI "successfully changed DAQ" doesn't mean that they have a lack of ambition - I find it offensive to call the fantastic strides NI has made as a "lack of ambition". Sure, they may not have a world domination attitude, but they're certainly not unambitious - you've got to give them that...
  2. That depends on where it goes and whether the discussions are confidential If you'd like someone to talk to you directly about the SLOC and GOBs metrics, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the right people...
  3. I agree - you're not going to get anywhere near an accurate number without help from NI. Here's a fun statistic though (interesting to see a mid-Antartic member!)
  4. We've done the work for you: that's exactly what a GOB is. We have also done studies with several projects related to defense-related software metrics, including the LabVIEW/SLOC comparison, amongst others. Please feel free to send a message to me directly and I can have one of our experts contact you to talk through your available options.
  5. Although NI reports "...roughly a one-to-one relationship between LabVIEW nodes and SLOC..." (and in bold too!), they then go on to list why it's not necesarily an accurate comparison. Node count is more about quantity, not complexity, hence it's relation to physical SLOC and not logical SLOC - there's usually a big difference.
  6. I think that version would be called "LabVIEW 100.250"
  7. For those without LabVIEW 8:
  8. Hey Urs (& Chris S.) - I suggest you add an entry here.
  9. ".avi" isn't a valid compression filter - it's just an extension to the filename, so the IMAQ_Create is looking for ".avi" in the resources list and it doesn't exist. Here something from the IMAQ_Create Help: RTFM for each VI you've got on your bloack diagram!
  10. Hey Urs - good to see you spedning some more time on LAVA Looks like an interesting session - I have to admit to being ignorant to what "the other white meat" has to offer with respect to LabVIEW - I'll certainly try to get along to Chris' session.
  11. Great idea dqsl - and welcome to LAVA!
  12. Glad to hear that you got your sound card working with LabVIEW mate!
  13. Thanks Ben - we've actually been researching it for a number of years and have several large project clients using it. I'm really hoping for its acceptance to grow even further as the userbase increases. That's why I flew half way around the world to work here
  14. I'm writing a paper on LabVIEW code metrics at the moment, and although I'm nowhere near finished it, here's a snippet:
  15. I agree - drop Pete's drivers (they were only a bit of an experiment anyway) and use these ones instead.
  16. Where is that written? I've heard NI suggest that node count and SLOC are comparable, but certainly not 1 to 1.
  17. It could be a whole range of things, so we need more of a hint from you - are you calling any DLLs? how are you acquiring the data from your probes? is you code large and multifunctional? if so, can you break it into smaller chunks and then build each of those into exe's to try to zero in on the problem? can you post your code so we can have a look?
  18. No worries Vyresince - any time
  19. I never intended to suggest that you were stupid, I just wanted to point out that you could at least try a little harder before expecting someone else to do it for you. You original post doesn't say that you've tried anything youself, so you're either plain lazy, a Homework Hustler or haven't read this.
  20. ...or maybe just click on Help on your menu bar...
  21. Start here - it already exists in the OpenG toolkit.
  22. I don't often say this, but seriously: RTFM!
  23. I agree with mross - if your time is cheap, writing your own is always an option. Otherwise, there are a handful of thirdy-party filter VIs out there including this one from Matrix Consultants. * Disclaimer: I used to be a Matrix Consulants Associate
  24. Excited that this thread got a reply? Don't be - read this instead...
