Use the Gallery for hosting your images.

  • Have you ever wanted to send an email to Info-LabVIEW and link an image of a LabVIEW diagram, but didn't know where to host it?
  • Have you ever wanted to link to an image in a post on the NI Forums but didn't know where to host it?
  • Have you ever wanted to add an image to your signature on LAVA or the NI Forums but didn't know where to host it?

Well now LAVA is making the Gallery area of the website available to all users (not just Premium Members). You will have access to upload any images you want inside your own personal (private or public) Albums.

I hope this will lead to increased usage of the Gallery from all of you and help you in providing a common storage area for your images. If you have any issues or questions on how to use the Gallery please post them to the LAVA support forum.

PS. You can also upload movies and flash files.

Regarding the NI forums - they have a lot of a traffic. Aren't you concerned about the bandwidth consumption? Personally, I find that LAVA does not always respond as fast as I would like, so a big load on the server might not be the best thing.

The alternative for the NI forums can be posting images to the feedback board, for example here.

Another alternative for posting to NI:

Post to the forums with your image attached. Then click on your uploaded image, copy the URL, and go back and edit your message to include this:

<img src="URL">

where URL is the url that you copied.

That way your image is uploaded as part of the post and you can edit it easily if you need to and you don't have to worry about another website being up/down when someone tries to view your message.

This is how I've always done it. Works great.

Michael: I'm not sure if I would advocate using LAVA as an general-purpose LabVIEW image repository. I've been noticing, lately, that the LAVA server is not as quick as it used to be.

No

This is related to a bug in one of the add-ons I added recently. This is not related to traffic.

I know that already. NI forums is only one use case. Info-LabVIEW is another.

Also, don't forget. The Gallery is just a convenient place to store your images. Also, all LAVA members have access to a personal album that shows their forums post images as well. Don't forget LAVA already has thousands of images stored in posts and thread bodies already.

Don't be afraid to use the LAVA website people. It's OK to walk on the grass. I appreciate your concern about server load but please, don't be. We need more community involvement on LAVA, not less.
