QUOTE(dannyt @ May 2 2007, 09:56 PM) I'm not sure that hits the point - it's not specifically newbies that are being targeted, it's people asking HH questions - that they are mostly newbies is mostly irrelevant. We all started as newbies, but as long as you're not trying to hustle other members into doing your homework for you, then you'll have an infintely better chance of avoiding ire. For example, here's a post that I would consider homework hustling: QUOTE Dear all, I want to do sun follower project with LABVIEW with spesific type of sensor but till now I dont know how can I construct the circiuit?? what shall I use?? how can I use Labview in this case??please need ur help... It's not because the member's a newbie, it's because the question is vague, it's obviously someone looking someone to do their homework for them, and after other members suggested that he/she should research it a little more themselves and then ask a more appropriate question, the original poster became belligerent. In summary: HH are becomming less and less welcome at LAVA, and that's a real shame - a handful of lazy students are giving the ones who really want to learn a bad reputation.

QUOTE(Jim Kring @ May 2 2007, 12:42 PM) Sounds like a good solution to me, but I'm not sure we should lump all of this on Mike - it's going to be a lot of work, and Mike already does a fantastic job of supporting LAVA with no financial gain. That takes me back to one of my earlier ideas: is LAVA at the stage where it's large enough to warrant a couple of Moderators standing alongside the Administrator?

The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends - if they're okay, then it's probably you...

QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ May 2 2007, 07:06 AM) My wife just skyped me to let me know that she found my determinism article very interesting (and she's a psychiatrist!), so it looks like it's all up and running again - thanks heaps Mike

QUOTE(tcplomp @ May 2 2007, 03:09 AM) You know, I miss it too. At first I was against it as it seemed like noise, but I've come around to appreciate the idea of wikifying posts as a way for people to get instant access to definitions that they don't understand, rather than cluttering up the thread by asking questions that could be answered by a quick link...

QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ May 1 2007, 12:30 PM) Absolutely - and also a great candidate for OpenG!

QUOTE(Val Brown @ May 1 2007, 12:50 PM) Sure - go for it. I've been meaning to get them into the OpenG buttons toolkit for ages but just haven't had the time.

QUOTE(Gary Rubin @ May 1 2007, 03:58 AM) I've seen a few of those too, but I'm pretty sure they were after users have tried to help, and realised from the poster's reponses that they haven't read the manual, tried to post an example of the issue, and have no LabVIEW knowledge at all. I think that the NI Discussion Forum is an excellent place for people like that - it has far more people that are inclined to help a user understnad the difference between a control and an indicator. Whilst I'm all for an esoteric "everyone's welcome", I don't really beleive that it's true. I'm not saying that LAVA is better than anywhere else, just that it's different, and I honestly don't beleive that it's anywhere near the best place for someone who's just taken the shrink warp of their LabVIEW box. QUOTE(dsaunders @ May 1 2007, 04:27 AM) As a newcomer myself... I really don't think of you as a newcomer Dave - especially the type I'm talking about. I'm referring to those who are still at school and have just attended their first LabVIEW class. You joined LAVA over 2 years ago and have numerous worthwhile posts to your credit

QUOTE(Phil Duncan @ Apr 30 2007, 06:28 PM) Hmmm - that's quite a challenge. You might need to impliment this from scratch using a picture control...

QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ Mar 31 2007, 06:06 PM) Sorry Mike, but they still don't show when I preview - they're okay once they're submitted (even in draft mode).

QUOTE(Sally @ Apr 30 2007, 04:22 AM) Nope - the strings is still there, but only stars are displayed. Try this: drop down a string control with password display turned on, then wire it directly to a string indicator in normal mode (don't change anything). Now type something into the control (you will see an asterisk for each character you type) and then run the VI - voila! The test you typed (but couldn't see) is now in the indicator.

QUOTE(i2dx @ Apr 30 2007, 01:32 AM) That's absolutely true in commerical applications, but not so much in school homework applications. Perhaps a well written (and verbosely documented) mini-toolkit will give a lot of our HH a good example of where to start in producing high quality LabVIEW code.
