See what I'll do for LAVA?!? *sigh* I just broke a commandment - are you happy now?!?!?
-
 Abso-frakin-lutely! Although most medium/large companies have strict HR departments in the way (and they're there for a reason - mine filters out an amazing number of extremely underqualified applicants so I don't have to waste my time with them), and as long as you know your stuff, attempting the direct contact method is a definate positive!
-
 Nice try, but you're going to have to poke harder than that - as you know more than anyone else, the NI Forums and LAVA are very different creatures. As far as I can see, no one on this thread has come up with any real differences between IE7 and FF - all we've got so far is that competition is healthy. I like to think I'm an objective engineer, so I fully stand by my previous post (note the bit in bold):

Not that there's anything wrong with that <nudge nudge>

These job descriptions are usually written by senior engineers, but are often bastardised as they move toward publishing, so whilst it may say required, I'd still apply. I wouldn't hide the fact that you don't have the degree, but I'd certainly highlight the industry experience. While I'm at it - as an interviewer I like to see past projects that interviewees have worked on, but I also like to see a lot of thought put into the knowledge section of resumes. Case in point: I've recently hired a guy that had extensive FPGA knowledge hilighted in his resume - it wouldn't have mattered if he didn't have a university degree - in the end, I wasn't after someone who has a degree, I was after someone with FPGA experince. As long as you can get your resume past the HR department somehow, you can shine in front of the interviewer (usually a senior engineer at least).

 This is fun!

Not at all my good man! Sure, boiling is preferred for pungant dish water like Earl Grey (Jean-Luc also uses a replicator - refinary such as Russian Caravan or Irish Breakfast could never be replicated!), but an aromatic tea is taken off the heat between the water's degassing and boiling point - it is never permitted to boil. savages! Just like any child, you're expected to hate your parents when you're young and immature, but they know that you'll come home eventually... So - which is your favorite? Looks like most features either already exisit in IE7 or are just implimentations of existing Google technology?

...and how lovely the harbour must have tasted! I saw a great comedy show once where a Tony Blair impersonator was walking the streets of New York, New York saying (I'm paraphrsing here) "You've had a good run, it's time to come back to the Empire" The disturbing part was that most people thought he was serious (actually, I do have the portrait - but it's there in an attempt to stop the annoying colleague practise of throwing nerph balls around the office and at me. Most people in my office don't know who they are, but they're sure they're someone important to me, so they leave them alone. Well, almost everyone does...) Rule Britannia!

Would you beleive me if I said I've got a portrait of HM and HRH on my desk? Ahhh - the "royal we" But "we", of course, only drink teas from the colonies...
-
*sigh* that's what everyone says
-
 Actually, yes I do! I've just brewed my first pot - ahhhhhhhhhhhh.... Yes - you have my permission to use "LV". I (and the the world) thanks you!

Whilst when we advertise we ask for engineers with degrees, our interview process includes skills evaluations, so why not give this a go?

OK - I haven't had my cup of green tea yet this morning, so here's a quick rant:  The name is "LabVIEW", not "LabView", "Labview", "labVIEW", "labView" or any other variation of those letters. Using an incorrect variation will be dealt with by an all-expenses paid room in the Tower of London for a few years...

Why the ? Why not just switch to IE7? Really guys, I'm not trying to be belligerent here, nor do I specifically love Microsoft products, but please let me know why I should I switch from IE7 to FF. Everyone seems to be passionate about how great FF is, and I'd be more than happy to switch to it if there's a good reason, but I haven't heard one yet...

Polymorphic VI template may break a class
crelf replied to LAVA 1.0 Content's topic in Object-Oriented Programming
I'm with Aristos - I don't think you can call it a bug when it was never supposed to work in the way you're trying. I'm very curious as to just what you're trying to pull off here... -
One thing I'd really really like to see in our LAVA Knowledgebase is a tutorial on how to set up LabVIEW to work with your favorite source code control (SCC) pacakge  Are there any Subversion/TortoiseSVN/PushOK users out there that could spare half an hour to write a comprehensive "how to" article?

Oh - I didn't think you were bashing LabVIEW at all I was just saying that I don't think comparing LabVIEW and C is at all like comparing IE and FF. I stand by my tool comment - sure, there are different types of hammers for driving nails, but, in the end, they all hammer nails. Sure, one might be better than another for a particular type of nail, but I'm not interested in filling my toolbox full of all sorts of hammers - I need a hammer that practically drives all the nails I use and, at this stage, that hammer is IE. I'd be happy to use FF, but since some of the pages I need to view require IE, I'd have to switch browsers all the time. As I said - the browser is the tool - I'm not interested in dog, I'm interested in the data it retrieves.
-
Although I also enjoyed your metaphor, I think it's unjustified for two reasons: I like my dog to fetch my data, and I've been very successful with IE doing so. In fact, there are a number of pages that FF won't display (our internal webmail service is one case). I'm not up for an arguement whether our webmail is compliant to a particular standard: I need to use my webmail at times, so I don't use FF. A web browser thinks it's in charge and decides where to go, irrespective of what I say? That's never happened to me with IE, but I'd be very interested to hear of an example. I suppose I'm just too old to use something just because it's not what everyone else is using (I gave that up after beating my head against the wall trying to promote OS/2 Warp - an awesome OS, but in the end not worth all the pain).

[CR] Convert between ASCII and Unicode
crelf replied to crelf's topic in Code Repository (Uncertified)
You're absolutely right - my submission only works for the 7bit ASCII page, not any of the extended or other pages (it actually checks that the UNIcode input is convertable to the 7bit page). As you suggest, a code snippet that covers all pages would be comprehensive indeed. -
VI icon template overwritten

I prefer the term "supple" - it's much more manly -
I understand where you're going with that although I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. That's like saying French is better than English, so everyone should speak French I installed it and the two biggest upgrades are tabs and RSS feeds (the latter doesn't interest me as I use RSSPopper). There's also a cool mode where you can look at mini versions of all the pages on your tabs simultaneously (yeah, yeah, FF probably already has that - whatever!)
