  1. I really have to give a shout-ou to the White House press crew (proper name escapes me, association of all networks that cover the White house) refused to interview X if FOX was not included.

What else could the other networks have done? Every one of them understood that if 0bama could single out Fox today 0bama could single out any one of them (or all of them) tomorrow.

  2. You know, I've never been one to subscribe to the 'left-wing media conspiracy.' Sure, they tended to lean towards the left, but on the whole I figured they were just trying to do their job well.

However, the complete absence of any major media outlet reporting on this story leaves me baffled and very disappointed. Why aren't they reporting on it? Fox News (which I neither condemn nor follow) has actually increased their credibility in my view. (Though I still won't watch it.) I know! I can hardly believe it myself!

Can't speak for the media in general, but the Associated Press had 11 reporters "fact" checking Sarah Palin's book. Obviously Sarah Palin is more of a threat to world peace than the biggest scam in history.

I rarely watch the news on TV, but when I do it's always Fox. One day Neil Cavuto had a global warming, uh, er, I mean "climate change" "expert" and Neil called him out on it: "Why are we calling it 'climate change' now and no longer calling it global warming?" I was a little embarrassed that such a question even had to be asked.

And when 0bama singled them out a few weeks ago I figured they must be hitting very close to home. It only further validated Fox in my eyes.

  3. Well said Chris (BTW - calumniative - thanks for the addition to my vocabulary worshippy.gif)

I must agree with those who are not sure about the data on the increasing global temperature, and who are EXTREMELY apprehensive of those who claim certainty that it is anthropogenic.

How well have we characterized the effect of the varying radiance of that big ball of burning hydrogen in the sky?

How much of the snow melting in the Arctic and North America is due to increased soot deposits on the snow due to the increased coal burning in China rather than CO2 in the atmosphere?

Let us follow the "money trail" of those who are pushing these ideas. Are they concerned for the planet and our progeny, or have they found a new and profitable gig?

How many of the suggestions pushed by the IPCC and others lead to nothing more than bureaucracies funded by the UN to transfer money to lesser developed nations?

How many of those pushing these ideologies live lifestyles that are in conflict with them.

Al Gore won a Nobel prize for his championship of THE CAUSE. The IPCC calls global meat production the greatest threat to the earth because of the greenhouse gasses that it produces, yet he is still a self described "steak-aholic". He flies around the world in a private jet rather than with the "great unwashed" in a mass transit jet while telling us that we should ride our bikes to work.

I completely agree that we need to reduce the crap that we send into the ecosystem. I don't need data to tell me this is detrimental, and a bad idea.

The question is: How much of the furor is about the people who have a monetary stake in the "Green" process, and how much of it is really about anthropogenic global warming?

Al has found hisself a VERY profitable cause, and so have many in others. And they are profiting on evidence that is very disputable.

What exactly is the ideal temperature for the Earth? It has varied greatly over the millenia, and I am curious how we determined what the best one was. Which increases were natural and which were man made? And when did we find the thermostat? Is it controlled with LabVIEW?thumbup1.gif I'd like to checkout THAT VI!

    Dismount from soapbox.

    Cheers beer_mug.gif

    Jim

I am speechless. I am in awe. I wish I could give you +10 points. Well said, Jim. You can take my place on my soapbox anytime. worshippy.gifthumbup1.giflaugh.gifyes.gifbiggrin.gifsmile.gifthumbup1.gifbeer_mug.gifbeer_mug.gifbeer_mug.gifworshippy.gif

Global warming/climate change: Biggest. Scam. Ever.

  4. Paul,

I want to thank you for breaking the ice on this topic. YOU are a better man than me.

    Ben

You are welcome, Ben. But give some credit to the stomach flu. I was home sick with a nasty stomach virus yesterday so I had some extra time on my hands behind the computer. I don't know what made my stomach feel worse: the virus or diving into this story. wacko.gif

  5. I can't argue with exercise, Paul. The cardiac rehab program that I completed three years ago really brought me back to life after the initial MI. But it's no panacea either... does anybody remember the running guru, Jim Fixx? He croaked of -- you got it -- a heart attack at age 52.

I think what happened to Jim Fixx was an abberation. That kind of thing doesn't happen very often. But don't take it from me. Talk to your cardiologist. He will probably tell you to get off your @ss and start moving. I don't know where you live but here in suburban Detroit the neighborhoods are wide open with golf courses, big lawns and beautiful landscaping. Great scenery for a brisk walk. Pretty soon I might start jogging. yes.gif

  6. I can't believe so many otherwise intelligent PROGRAMMERS can be so flippant about cooking data, manipulating data, using "tricks" on data, hiding data and DELETING data for nefarious purposes.

Did I wake up in a parallel universe? blink.gif

If this turns out to be the scam I believe it is the ramifications are stunning. I called this the biggest scam in history because in terms of monetary and political clout it IS. We are talking huge global financial and political consequences. Why? A bunch of elitist politicians and climatologists traded in their collective integrity so they wouldn't lose their funding, Nobel prizes and clout in the UN.

What bothers me the most about this is that we need to count on scientists to have a certain amount of integrity. What happens the next time a group of scientists cry wolf?

"A meteor is coming and it will destroy the earth!" "Oh, yea, sure, I remember 'climategate'".

"A new influenza has just mutated and it could kill billions!" "Oh, yea, sure, I remember 'climategate'".

"The earth REALLY IS warming, and it's OUR FAULT! We have to change our lifestyles NOW or we are ALL GOING TO DIE!" "Oh, yea, sure, I remember 'climategate'".

Everyone's ears and brains should have gone into alert mode when they stopped calling it "global warming" and started calling it "climate change". WTH is CLIMATE CHANGE?! What's up with that?! Otherwise intelligent people are buying this nonsense!!!

  7. A couple of ideas come to mind, sorry but no references to back me up.

    1) ".... so this topic further investigation." or something to that effect is what I was taught is how all research papers should end. The explanation that came with that note to me is that nothing gets researched without funding and there will be no funding without a reason so ... more research dollars.

    2) "Power" durring recent climate hearing in congress all of the pro-change people were scheduled early so that teir version would make the news before it was too late to go to press. The con arguement was little covered.

    3) "Power" the meeting that is scheduled for helsinky (spelled very badly, sorry) include provision to enforce climate regualtions on a global scale effectively setting the first hints of a World Government with power to enforce climate laws.

    4) No mention of atomic energy in all of the "solutions" unless we happen to be talking about a country other the the US and then it is OK fro them but not us.

    5) According to an interview given by Lord Monkton (again bad spelling) indicated that they predicted phenomenon on which global warming was based (CO2 concentration increase inhibits radiating heat) has been measured using new satalite data and was shown to be false.

Just trying to help, and am full aware of how crazy i sound but still desire to help any one willing to read.

    Ben

Indeed. "Anyone willing to read". THEY ERASED THE FRACKIN' DATA!angry.gif

  8. Allow me to offer my most belated of deep congratulations, as well.

But what impresses me most is that you haven't let the new responsibilities of fatherhood get in the way of your true passion: (American) Football.

"Little-used backup quarterback Chris Relf accounted for three touchdowns, Anthony Dixon set the Mississippi State single-season rushing record and the Bulldogs upset No. 20 Mississippi 41-27 in the Egg Bowl on Saturday."

So congratulations on that, too! tongue.gif

Good game, Chris!! But stay out of those tanning booths. They're hard on you skin. wink.gif

  9. I have to say "ditto" to what jcarmody wrote.

My dad is the best example of what seems to work the best for everyone: cardio exercise.

He's almost 80 but is in better shape and has more energy than I. He only needs to take a water pill for his BP and it's a solid 110/70. Around the age of 50 his cardiologist must have read him the riot act. Dad started walking, then running, working up to 20-30 miles a week and continued to do so until he had to quit a couple of years ago due to doctors orders- a hip replacement. He might be 10 lbs overweight now and I'm sure that came from his quitting running. He goes to the Y 5 days a week and works the free weights. He gets good walks in while volunteering at the hospital a couple of days a week pushing patients around in wheelchairs. Not only does exercise burn off calories it curbs your appetite. Except for a serious reduction of red meat he hasn't made any drastic changes to his diet. He simply doesn't need to eat very much.

His cardiologist said that what he is doing is the best thing you can do to help keep the arteries clear.

And excersise is not only great for your heart it's great for your mind. Dad's mind is still very much all there. When he's not doing something he's reading.

Oh, and Dad drinks. One or two glasses of wine daily. I've heard that might have something to do with a healthy heart as well.

Don't go running any marathons right now. Too many folks our age decide to make up for lost time and go Rambo right away - some of us dropping dead of a heart attack at the local fitness center during our first workout in 10 years. Talk to your cardiologist first. Dad started very slowly and wasn't really running until probably a year after he started brisk walking.

    My $0.02

Good luck, Bob. I'm counting on seeing you around here for years to come. thumbup1.gif

  10. He is correct.

My daughter is on Facebook; therefore I am on Facebook. ph34r.gif

It is often a random bunch of trivia about people's lives. Especially if you "friend" a bunch of random people... OTOH, thanks to Facebook I hooked up with a highschool buddy a couple days ago who I haven't talked to in 25 years. That's pretty cool.

Would you rather your daughter heard this from 0bama, or you? wink.gif

  11. I'm not a fan of substates or nested states. I've gone down that road many years ago and came to the conclusion that it's simply too hard to work with. It makes the code harder to trace and debug. I had a colleague that swore by that technique. I hated working on his code.

If the code on the diagram is so complex that you need to break it down into nested states then I would consider using more subVIs instead. Makes the code easier to work with and debug.

I'm not a big fan of the queued message handler to begin with. Throwing in nested states and substates gives me a headache just thinking about it. blink.gif

  12. US president Barack Obama has warned teenagers of the dangers of putting too much personal information on Facebook and other social networking websites, saying it could come back to haunt them in later life.

"Well, let me give you some very practical tips. First of all, I want everybody here to be careful about what you post on Facebook, because in the YouTube age, whatever you do, it will be pulled up again later somewhere in your life," Obama said.

What do you think about it?

I think 0bama should stick to leading adults as an adult instead of bowing to foreign leaders and meddling in what teenagers do or not do in their free time. Just saying.

  13. My question is whether I need to reinstall the driver for my video card, sound card, etc?

Probably not, but it's a good idea to check and make sure you have the latest and greatest drivers for your hardware once in a while. After you replace your montherboard would be a good time to do that.
