  1. QUOTE (Ton @ Aug 18 2008, 08:41 AM) OK, thanks. I'll try exploring those kinds of options.
  2. QUOTE (LV_FPGA_SE @ Aug 18 2008, 07:53 AM) Yes, congratulations!!
  3. QUOTE (gmart @ Aug 18 2008, 06:08 AM) Yes, that I can understand. Perhaps one way to approach this conundrum would be to have a "Save As" function for Build specifications. That way a Build could be essentially "exported" to a an XML structure with a complete explicit pathname for each dependancy/resource then the newly created BLD could be integrated into an LVPROJ just like any legacy BLDs are.
  4. QUOTE (crelf @ Aug 16 2008, 10:26 AM) I actually solved the problem by a back door process. I saved a top-level VI from one project (that didn't have the build specs I wanted) into the project that did have the build specs I wanted to use. A little bit of editing of the overall project to duplicate the virtual folder structure and I'm done. I'll try the attachment process again so I can generate the error and post the exact error message. I'd really like to know how to do attachments and I suspect I'm just not following the correct procedure here for the forum.
  5. QUOTE (crelf @ Aug 16 2008, 07:09 AM) I'd be happy to do so but I can't seem to make an attachment work. Can someone point me to where there are some step by step instructions on how to do that?
  6. QUOTE (Val Brown @ Aug 15 2008, 04:41 PM) Well I just tried doing a "cut and paste" of the build specs and got a "Project file corrupt" error message when trying to load it so I don't think this is going to work.
  7. QUOTE (crelf @ Aug 15 2008, 04:01 PM) Yeah, I was wondering that too and, of course, that raises two questions/issues for me: 1. Has anybody done this successfully? (that's the oh my god I don't want to blow up the world or lose my project fear talking) 2. How do I know what the "build-related portion" of the lvproj is? (I know some XML but...)
  8. I'm using 8.6 and am wondering if it is possible to transfer a Build specification from one project to another, or do I have to manually re-enter the Build specification in the "target" Project?
  9. I'd like to hear from any LAVA members who have experience in using the Microprocessor SDK. In particular I'm looking to find out their experience re: porting code to different platforms and, in particular, any difficulties or challenges that have occurred that would support NOT using NI's SDK but going another path. My current deployed app is windows-based but that's only because it uses functions in the Advanced Signal Processing Toolkit and, at present, that only runs in the Windows environment. So, I'm specifically wondering if anyone has tried to generate C code using this SDK to deploy LV code using functions from the Advanced Signal Processing Tooklkit.
  10. It's usually blues and/or jazz. SRV (having just been to NI Week in Austin his music is very present on my mind). Delbert McClinton Butterfield Blues Band Koko Taylor Bonnie Raitt Robert Cray... and/or David Sanborn Coltrain Ocar Peterson Miles Davis Early George Benson Bob James and for the "Benefit" of some of you old R&R types, the third Jethro Tull album, Cream, Traffic, Doors, King Crimson... just to name a few.
  11. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 11 2008, 07:23 AM) Yes, practice does make a big difference and I've only been using trackpads -- with rare exceptions -- for the last ten years on any of my machines. I even had an external trackpad back when they were available, all to avoid the use of a mouse. Using the trackpad I can even perform Mouse clicks with my thumbs while my hands are positioned for typing on the keyboard. That's just not possible when using a mouse. The old IBM and Toshiba laptops used to have the stick controller that was embedded in the keyboard area and that had some similar benefits -- with a lot more downsides IMO.
  12. QUOTE (Antoine Châlons @ Aug 10 2008, 11:02 PM) Since Leopard and MacBook Pros, at least, perhaps as far back as Tiger but for sure Leopard. In general I find that that the two finger at once does a pretty good job as a right click when I'm using Fusion to run XP to support LV under virtualization on my MBP. Just a quick Command-Tab or so and I'm back to Entourage for email or Safari for LAVA.
  13. QUOTE (crelf @ Aug 8 2008, 06:04 PM) You know you would think so however that's not what happened based on last year. Now I agree, the presenters are different this year in a large number of instances but certainly not different in re: to Michael and Phillipe and, if I'm not mistaken, their group last year wouldn't have fit into this years room -- let alone the number who wanted to attend this year.
  14. So what's up with putting some of the most attended sessions related to Software in the smallest rooms? It was worse than ridiculous. And I also think it showed some poor judgement to schedule so many Software related sessions for the last session on the last day. I think it would be a good thing for as many LAVA members as possible -- as well as others -- to write to NI and let them know that we really want this to be different next year.
  15. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 8 2008, 02:13 PM) Yes I can imagine how different it would be to us QD if you were mouse based. Part of the issue for me is that I'm so trackpad based. Currently I can do just about everything I need to from the trackpad, with minimal shifts to the keyboard (most for documentation purposes). I'm sure I'll figure out some way to make use of QD because it definitely is a powerful feature. But I also don't think I've really used the other options maximally, like putting icons into the My favorites pallet. FWIW, I had another odd quirk in my install of 8.6 (from the download). I found that I couldn't use Tools/Compare to compare VIs and I got an error when building which indicated that the "NIScanEngine not found in vi.lib". The problem was solved simply by copying in the NIScanEngine folder, which NI support sent to me as an email attachment. Why/how that happened on my system I have absolutely no idea but my suggestion would be to just make certain that you don't have that problem. Try using Tools/Compare and make sure you actually can perform that operation. Maybe my install process somehow "knew" that I wasn't that enamoured of QD and did a QD of the NIScanEngine as a protest!
  16. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 8 2008, 01:30 PM) Do you work on a desktop or a Windows laptop? Remember I'm using a MacBook Pro and there are a lot of track pad tricks available there. But, despite that, one of the primary reasons I use a trackpad is that I know that resource is always available and always with a minimal set of useful operations across all of my user's installation -- because they are almost always on laptops supplied by us. So whether on my system, at home or traveling, or on a user's system, I have the same interface available. And Darren I can tell you that the fact that you wrote it and pushed for it is a very strong statement of its usefulness and is one of the primary reasons that I will be continuing to explore it -- despite my initial hesitations. A lot of that may just reflect my habitual use patterns but I would also add that, using a trackpad as I do, even needing to move the right hand is a diversion! I'm sure at some point I'll get used to it but what I think I'd really like FWIW is a visual interface to that perhaps something like the My Favorites pallet only expanded and easier to use. I'm still a bit old school, even after all these years...
  17. QUOTE (jed @ Aug 7 2008, 09:51 PM) IDK about Jet Blue but perhaps travel insurance next time for such interruptions???
  18. QUOTE (Darren @ Aug 8 2008, 08:42 AM) OK, here I am "old school" anthem ringing in my ears but isn't this supposed to be GRAPHICAL programming? I really don't want to use the keyboard at all -- except to document what I do -- so having to type anything seems like a far slower way for me to go, because of how I have to move off my trackpad. Now part of that might also be that I always program on my MacBook Pro so I don't use a mouse. <caveat re: mouse. There's still a bit of a problem I'm having at times with right clicks on my MBP running XP under Fusion but that's a different issue for a different thread> So the bottom line for me is that QD will probably be SA (slow addition) to my use patterns. Despite that I think it's a great idea, esp for those who are more used to STILL using text-based programming. end of post from old school whose off to pursue other options...
  19. QUOTE (Darren @ Aug 7 2008, 02:29 PM) Not at all -- it's a great demonstration of one meaning of "Quick Drop"...
  20. QUOTE (neB @ Aug 7 2008, 12:15 PM) I found the same serial number worked across all toolkits -- except Adaptive Filter Toolkit -- even though I did have to install each separately.
  21. QUOTE (normandinf @ Aug 6 2008, 04:25 PM) Yeah, I've gotten it all worked out except for the Adaptive Filtering Toolkit. Somehow that doesn't seem to be licensed so... The process was that I did have to download each of the toolkits and then install and activate them sequentially.
  22. QUOTE (Neville D @ Aug 6 2008, 02:46 PM) I did the download mentioned here on the forum and it was pretty large (571 MBs) but...Perhaps it isn't the entire DVD but it wasn't clear to me from the download. I'm really hoping to get this done while I'm here at NI Week because I live in Canada (the mail is slow there) and I go on another trip as soon as NI Week is done so, if I don't get it done now, I won't see the upgrade for about 3 weeks. 23. OK, so I've done the download and installed but NONE of my toolkits were installed. Any helpful ideas???
  24. QUOTE (Ton @ Aug 2 2008, 11:06 PM) OK, any suggestions for implementing that same code without using OpenG? I know that's probably almost sacriligious here but there are some of us who don't use OpenG.
  25. QUOTE (JDave @ Aug 1 2008, 08:18 AM) What about the fix to the WMP container so that it can retain its size instead of resetting to the default sizing of the currently selected media file?
