  1. I use an occurence AND a global Variable in my dynamic called *SubVIs*: http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=5640 The occurence stops the SubVI in *normal* operation and I use it, as long as my Main VI is running. The GV is set to false at the start of my main VI and is set to true, when my main VI stops. Ok, that might sound a little bit paranoid to you, but the GV ensures, that each Module is killed after the stop of my main vi, because it remains TRUE as longe as there are any callers. Even if I miss an occurence by acciendt, I can be sure, all Modules are closed when my SW stops.
  2. I have a question about the LV 8.2.1 Installation: An AE at the Hannover Industry Trade Fair told me, to install 8.2.1 in parallel to 8.20. When I start the LV 8.2.1. installer, it seems, it wants to replace 8.20. Have you installed in parallel or replaced 8.20?
  3. QUOTE(jpdrolet @ Apr 25 2007, 03:14 PM) Allthough I don not know it, I'd bet that enqueuing / dequeuing is a *call by reference* operation. I can't see any sense for duplicating the data, just for the purpose to hand them over to an other function without any modification. And I can not imagine how to implement polymorphic behaviour on a primitive without pointer operations ...
  4. QUOTE(Eugen Graf @ Apr 24 2007, 06:28 PM) to be honest: I have absolutely no idea ...
  5. QUOTE(Eugen Graf @ Apr 24 2007, 10:35 PM) Eugen, I use the RS232 VIs for serial communications, and I never had any serious truble. I've never heard of this issue, therefore, I can't provide an answer. The best ressource for such issues is the NI website and if you can't find any entrys for that error# there, I'd suggest to contact an AE @ NI support.
  6. QUOTE(Darren @ Apr 25 2007, 01:00 AM) Daren, it’s good, you answered, I wanted to address one of the NI guys here. It seems, that I always get these errors, which are not in the CAR , because I never found any helpful information about the *crash* on the webpage. It does not really bother me, because LV is working fine, and if not, I'd torture (again) an AE with my issue, until I can continue my work Anyway, maybe the Suggestion Page would be a better place for this, but I'm unsure, so, I'd like to ask the question here, if NI could make this part of LV a little bit more convenient and I have a suggestion: The way MS handles crash feedback is almost optimal. They do not bother you with many questions, they just ask you in the first step, if you want to send the crash report or not. If you want to, you can get detailed information and more detailed information, if you want to, and if you are interested in the details of the file, which is sent to MS. I'd be glad, if NI would handle crash reports the same way. You (NI) can decide on your side, whether this crash reports matters or not, and if you think it does not matter, then you can increment the counter on crash xzy and delete the file. You get the statistics and the user gets the good feeling that someone is caring about his issue. Using the webpage for the search for further information about the crash leaves a bad feeling, if there is no answer and you are left alone with the decision, to send an email to R&D or not. So I would only show a button "find information for that issue on our webpage", if there ARE information on the webpage. What do others think about that?
  7. if you want to use icons, you have to use a listbox, a multicolum listbox, a tree menu, etc. Tables do not support icons. You can edit the icon set of eg. a tree menu with the property nodes. First you have to set the "icon array", and the best method is to set the icon array once, providing all icons, you want to use. After that you can set the icon of each row with the property node programmatically, you just have to set the index of the used icon.
  8. Hi folks, since working with a FPGA in my latest project I get an internal error message EACH time, I start LV. Ok, that does not really bother me, because anything is working fine, but can it be, that LV really *crashes* each time, I close the SW? http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=5621 BTW: do not tell me to set the checkbox to ignore internal errors
  9. QUOTE(Eugen Graf @ Apr 24 2007, 01:44 PM) I am not sure, but usually -1 is the number you have to wire, if you want an unlimited timeout ... but I don't know if this is working with VISA, too (and I am to lazy to take a look now )
  10. QUOTE(PJM_labview @ Apr 24 2007, 04:58 PM) after all, research is a business, too: it kreates knowledge. And if you want to succedd in your business, you have to sell something. Ok, in research, you don't have a product you can / have to sell, but you sell the promise to deliver *deeper* knowledge. someone has to pay the bill and last but not least, you can't drink E=mc² ... cheers CB
  11. QUOTE(Tomi Maila @ Apr 24 2007, 12:56 PM) that's a question of taste. As a research scientist you have *lots of time* and you can follow ideas, even if the result is "that doesn't work" ... but your projects never end , which is bad, if you want to see a result or a product As a Project engineer you see the happy faces of your customers in periodic intervals and you see a direct result of your work, but you have allways the preassure to be faster, quicker, better or cheaper ... and you allways lack of time. Allthough I like this business, and am happy with my current state, from time to time, I wish myself back on my working place at NI, where I could have allmost any NI hardware and play around with it a little bit, just to figure out, how it works and where are the limits, etc ... QUOTE(AnalogKid2DigitalMan @ Apr 23 2007, 10:54 PM) But does it work with BEER? hmm ... I don't know, I'll try it out today evening
  12. QUOTE(crelf @ Apr 23 2007, 10:25 PM) lol yea, end of project -> next one starting on monday => I have 3 days holliday <yippie>
  13. I found an other remarkable video: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5PvIPgJGx0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5PvIPgJGx0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5PvIPgJGx0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
  14. this is a video of a 500kV switch opening <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value=" name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>Warning: Do not try to do this at home, only try this at work. Do NOT use NI switching devices when trying that at work!
  15. QUOTE(Tomi Maila @ Apr 23 2007, 08:15 PM) hmm ... I just hat a small conference chat with my HR department and the members of the board and I am affraid, that I currently have no open position for asharmas helping hand
  16. QUOTE(Ben @ Apr 23 2007, 03:31 PM) maybe you want to add "= AQ" to your note?
  17. QUOTE(Tomi Maila @ Apr 23 2007, 05:12 PM) hmm, then he/she is a HHMFCPN (Homework Hustling Multiple Forums Crosspost Newbie) - we really should ignore him ugh, my beer was really bad this morning (to warm and boring ... )
  18. QUOTE(Pablo Bleyer @ Apr 23 2007, 05:34 PM) you're right. You have to provide the correct datatype (Array of Wfms, etc) to make the Graph know, what it should do with the data. Press Ctrl+H and drag the mouse over the graph icon in the Block Diagramm and the Context Help will show you how you have to format the data to get the desired result ...
  19. QUOTE(tcplomp @ Apr 23 2007, 06:27 AM) not me, I swear! @Michael Ashe: the heck why is your coffee good now?
  20. QUOTE(tcplomp @ Apr 22 2007, 09:55 PM) ok, you're right - to the jury - ignore this chapter QUOTE(tcplomp @ Apr 22 2007, 09:55 PM) So I think this is a bad method, I feel like Tomi's idea with some threshold? If a user got three bad grades for one perticular post it is 'sandboxed'. The grades have the duty to review the topic three days later and make a final statement! I do not believe that technical means are a suitable way to interact with humans (even stuipd ones). From my experience as a MOD in the german labview forum I know, that you simply need some newbie bashing from time to time. Picking out the worst ones (called HHs here ) and slaping them verbally increases the discipline of the rest . IMHO AQ found a really good phrase, maybe we could use that as a template? Just to proove my thesis: in 2006 Michael Ashe did a lot of HH bashing - you know this - ugh, really bad coffee this morning thing and we had a real low !NULL to NULL post ratio here. Maybe we just have to invent an LHHBOIC (LAVA Homework Hustler Bashing Officer in Charge)

QUOTE(njkirchner @ Apr 22 2007, 04:16 AM) I don't wanna stand behind: http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=5591 to add some explanation: the constant on the left side is new in LV and is called "pseudo infinite function integral array". Using this in a scalar context, like the "multiply array" primitive, makes LV use up 100% of your system resources, which has the positive side effect, that you have enough time to go out and drink a beer or two
  22. QUOTE(Tomi Maila @ Apr 22 2007, 09:34 PM) lol ... poor geeks
  23. QUOTE(Tomi Maila @ Apr 22 2007, 07:09 PM) ignore the repost, so, if they are really tough, they will repost maybe a third time, but then even the dumbest brick of all will have understood the message ... Whatever you try: you can not solve a social problem by technical means. Ok, maybe if you use a Smith&Wesson, but that's an other storry So, if you are upset by NULL posts, let 'em know. Where's the problem? Is there really a need to hide behind a Button or a piece of software? I will not flame you, if you respond to a NULL post with some adequate words Last but not least I'd like to ammend, that the largest thread and the thread, which is considered to be the funniest at LAVA by many users here is one, which is an absolute NULL post, you guess right, I mean that one, which has been started by our beloved guru alfa, the most advanced human beeing (according to his calculations) currently living in this world
  24. QUOTE(Aristos Queue @ Apr 22 2007, 05:12 PM) although I like this thought, I'd like to ammend, that a flagged post just would make me curious what about the most simple method: NULL answsers to NULL Posts? then it's like spitting in the ocean - one impact and the rest is history ... resp. the forum software would do the rest, if Michael has activated the "delete posts with no answers after X days" option in the forum settings.
  25. this is one of that special moments where me, too posts are allowed thanks, stephen!
