MikaelH
Hi I've just installed SUSE 12.1 on my laptop, since I need to test my GOOP stuff in the LabVIEW environment there. But I can't get LabVIEW to start after installation. I'm not a Linux-guy but I open the terminal window change to admin access (su), and then changed dir to the installation folder and run "sh ./INSTALL" The installation started and it looks quite aright (see text below), but when I try to start it, the application just sits in the taskbar for about 10-15 seconds and disappears. Any ideas? --------------------------------- linux-m0wt:~/Downloads/lv2009pds-linux # sh ./INSTALL LabVIEW 2009 for Linux/x86 Copyright © 2009, National Instruments Corporation. ShaunR
This is probably a case of the blind leading the blind but.... you've got a few errors e.g gcc Not found in current path*** ERROR: Some required tools are missing or were not found. ***
I got a little further (since I have gcc and the kernel source installed) but then got this error
*********************************** ERROR ************************************* ERROR: 3.1 kernels are not supported! ** Running a 2.4.x or 2.6.x kernel is required to continue this installation. ************************************ ERROR ************************************ So I'm guessing it won't work (properly?) with 12.1. I am just going through installing 11.4 (which uses kernel version 2.6.x). NB: These errors were for only the GPIB and the VISA but I'm not going to faff around with seeing which "parts" might work although Labview did run without quitting (version 8.5) Edited November 26, 2011 by ShaunR 1 Quote Link to comment
MikaelH
Thanks Shaun I tried installing gcc but still it didn't work :-( I followed this guide line: 1. Goto YaST Control Center → Software → Software Management 2. In search box type gcc then it will show packages 3. Select gcc then accept 4. Then gcc will be installed //Mike Quote Link to comment

Goto YaST Control Center → Software → Software Management 2. View → Patterns 3 Select "Base Development" check box. 4. Install. After that I went to "Search" and typed in "kernel". Selected "kernel source" (which is 3.1 for 12.1 and 2.6.37 for 11.4) and then installed that. Like I said. I had problems with the NIVisa on 12.1 (which is one of the ones that needed the source and gcc) but no problems on 11.4. Quote Link to comment

I don't have a 2009 linux distro (rocking-horse droppings ) so unfortunately cannot try it to see if I get the same problem. All I can say is that 8.5 started ok and even installed everything properly on 11.4. Perhaps a call to NI? Edited November 28, 2011 by ShaunR Quote Link to comment

swenp
As far as I can see there are no 2.4/2.6 kernels available for openSUSE 12.1. But you need the older kernels + sources to compile some kernel modules during the LabVIEW install process if you wan't VISA or GPIB support. But if you just hit the 'n' key when asked for VISA and GPIB support the installation will complete without errors, no need for gcc + kernels sources in this case. MikaelH
I just tried to install without VISA and GPIB, but I get the same result. Maybe I need to find a Linux Image with LV pre-installed for WMware :-) //Mike Quote Link to comment
swenp
That's strange. I did a clean install of openSUSE 12.1 in a new VirtualBox appliance and just installed LabVIEW 2009. I could upload the appliance somewhere, but it's a VirtualBox one (~5GB) Edited November 30, 2011 by swenp Quote Link to comment
MikaelH
Thanks, if you have time, you can upload it to a amazone clode drive account, if you can keep it just under 5G https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/learnmore Just send me the login details: mikael at holmstroms dot eu Currently I'm working on getting a WMware vesrion up and running, but it would be fun to try VirtualBox, I've not used it before. Thanks for all support. Cheers, Mike Quote Link to comment
