One of the key differences in the IDE with NXG is the single window view. It took some digging but I found an old LabVIEW 8 beta that had a similar design. I'm guessing they had usability issues or something as it obviously didn't end up like this. Maybe similar to the ribbon interface and how that was only really used on the Web UI builder and an alpha.
