  1. Hello I have the need to read MMS without going to a cell phone aggregator company. The approach I offer here is not at all an example of good programming practice and it would be much better to gain access to a cell phone company's database. Maybe this will happen when the system gets going. These MMS are sent to a phone number, and then picked out from the picture messaging web page. I used the iMacros product to see if it could be done simpler, but found that there was just not enough control. Th iMacros can click on a position on the screen, but prefers to activate the links inside the HTML. The best that can be said for the method is that it works (at least until they change the web site again!) The vi's to enter text into a web page and to click the mouse are included.
  2. Now I need to provide continuity and reliability. I have a LabView program in the health care sector and I'd like to pass over the maintenance and continued development to another company. What kind of deals can be struck here? I am a solo developer who is getting on in years. Taking over a program can be tiresome. It needs to get under version control, translation into other languages than English will likely become important. One of my goals is to move myself away from all of this entirely, to have someone else do the troubleshooting and the database maintenance on the various hospital servers. To avoid the discussion about new features and the increasingly complex .ini file. Is there a way to link this work with a fraction of the income? Obviously if there is no activity there will be little demand for modifications, and probably vice versa. How do discussions go between salesmen wanting additional features and maintenance groups thinking it's still OK? My plan is to make a kind of federation of sellers who market the program into the various target markets, and this developer company which is responsible for providing continuity and maintenance as well as specialized installation services to hospital servers for example. Yours Sincerely John
  3. The Specialized software in this case is Wound Management I have a program working for some months now in alpha testing, and I'd like to try it out a little wider. The program is written in LV 7.0 and can install to and run from a memory stick without leaving any traces on the hard drive. This may be a useful model for some people. Nurses who look after wounds are spread far and wide across the world. They cannot install programs (I've tried to get 'em to do it and they just won't). The plan is to get some of the people who read this list to install it for a nursing home or group of home care nurses in their neighborhood. Some training in Internet use may be needed too as the program interacts with email and web uploads of pictures. This will save us hiring salespeople etc etc, So the proposal is to split the income half and half with the 'nerd' for a period of five years. Check <http://tinyurl.com/3z432n> or <http://www.tradersmicro.com/WoundFollowUp/...Ucrowdofnerds.php>for a lead in. If you have suggestions about the whole approach of Crowd of Nerds, then I'd like to see them as it's new territory to me. Yours Sincerely John
  4. Hello I need to send some emails from inside a LabView program. The user has currently to write out the email address in full, and would prefer a drop down list like a real address book. It may be better to use the default address book with a proper lookup on the first few letters etc etc. Does anyone know how o access the address book of the default email program. Even if it's a webmail program?
  5. The tip-strip is controllable through a property node. If you set the value of the tip strip to blank then it does not show up. Best wishes John
  6. It depends what you are looking for. If the job is creative it might be worthwhile putting in a question which will indicate creativity. A friend routinely asks really off the wall questions. "Next week we have a conference exhibit and we need an elephant for our stand. Where do you think we could get an elephant from?"
  7. QUOTE (crelf @ Aug 6 2008, 12:14 AM) Well, I'd think that it does increase the probability that it's a good address if the domain is there! Here's what I've got so far
  8. The stated purpose of the routine is to remove intermittent spikes in the data. Median would be better than mean for this purpose. It takes the middle value of the set, rather than the average, so a couple of high values are lost entirely and do not change the median the way the average does. This, of course raises a question of how to compute the median, it needs to put the items in order and pick the middle one. Doing this on a continuous basis seems likely to respond to ingenuity, since as you move on to the next point, n-1 points are already in order in the buffer. John
  9. This routine is useful to check on the location of all VI's in your project. I generally use a rather simple structure without dynamically loaded vi's so it works for me. It's written in LV 7.0 The problem it is aimed to solve is to ensure that you are not linking in vi's from other projects, and that all your vi's are in their expected places. John
  10. Hello I'm very interested to try and leverage the new low cost PC's in various monitoring applications that we make in LV. The issue that I face is that I've a licensse to use LV on Windows, but not on Linux and It's easier to choose a Windows based computer than the more natural Linux one because of the issues of acquiring a new version of LV. Recently I've begun using the option in the build application where a small caller application calls a llb library with the LV source code. Is it possible to have a generic small loader app and avoid the expense of a whole development version of LV for Linux and just use the code I make for the Win versions? Do others face the same issues? How have you approached a solution? John
  11. LabView tends to run rather slowly if there is a shortage of memory. John
  12. I'm not sure why I'm freaking you out... However, freaked or not you did me a kind service and pointed to a good location for jpeg handling and resizing. John
  13. Hello I want the user to choose a file by clicking on this thumbnail. In teh regular file menu the files come up as a llist, and I have to go to the menu bar of the file dialog to set it to thumbnails. Anyoe got an idea how to do this? John
  14. Hello Here is an LV7.0 version that I've modified a little. If I recall correctly the OpenG version I started with had issues with linefeeds, but maybe I misremember. I've used it extensively to read voice mails from Vonage. Sorry it's so messy, I kept meaning to tidy it up and then I moved the project to php! I've only tried the decode. Good Luck John
  15. Hello I've been having a difficult time with a bank of 8 fieldpoint modules controlling some ovens and valves. The modules would not respond to commands and Max would claim that the modules did not exist. Sometimes it would work fine and at the next power-on all is wrong again, even teh ready light did not come on in the modules. To correct this I used two power suppllies, one to the Network module, and another to the supplementary supply that is connected from one module to the next. So far this is a big improvement...it works properly. Can it be that the electrical noise is screwing things up. Or is it the power requirements (I have 3 FP-RLY-420's in among 8 modules.) Quote from the datasheet. "Power Requirements Because the FP-RLY-42x are high power consumption modules, they could limit the number of I/O modules that you can connect to a single network interface module. Controllers and network interface modules supply up to 9 W to power I/O modules. The FP-RLY-420 requires up to 2.5 W"
  16. It's the size of the cognitive surplus that interests me. Maybe even the most far-out projects can get some traction. It's not just for professors and lab-researchers any more. We can all do it. on /. there's an article about do it yourself table displays for a few hundred bucks. My (current) favourite is to record a LOT of utterances about a subject eg. help group meetings for Asperger families, and then analyze them looking for repeated threads. Like "they rarely lie" They obey laws"; these are strong characteristics, but weaker ones could help an early diagnosis which seems key to treatment. John
  17. Hello Sorry to tell you hat using IE6 under Xp I get this error message when I change a page in Lavag. This is a rather slow computer anyway! John
  18. This is a very interesting question suggesting perhaps the possibility of writing LabVIEW programs to leave on the 'net for people to execute. One aspect that might be a step towards a general solution is the ability of LV (7.0 at least) to be run from a memory stick. http://forums.lavag.org/Memory-Stick-Insta...Soft-t8472.html . It may be possible to adjust matters to run it directly from the web, though there are some security issues with this apporach. The point I am making rather clumsily is that it is not necessary to have the install of the LV runtime as a separate step, leading to a simpler appearing download from teh web and execute. Hope this helps. John
  19. Hi I had to re-install a lot following a hard disk crash on Friday. Most of the regular LV projects were well backed up. However there is always a lot of odds and ends that I've forgotten how to do. Where is my info-labview Google search widget? Is there one for Lavag.org? Does anybody know? The Open G toolkit installed very smoothly (Thanks to the hard work of Jim Kring and his pals). This event has pushed me further along the way of keeping all my stuff on the web rather than onm a vulnerable hard disk. Google docs is a woderful offering! John
  20. My thanks to everybody who wrote in with suggestions. It is so helpful to be part of this community. On a personal note, by son who is studying calculus in school was surprised by my approach to differentiating a line (just take the previous from the current right through the points), but I'll stick with this as it allows smoothing the result before using it. Here is the approach that I used and the nicely fitting lines it produces over the test set. John The outline of the algorithm used to computer these three lines is as follows. 1) determine the bottom and top of the step. a) do several generalized curve fittings, orders 2..12 and pick the best fit (often order 7 or 8). Draw this line in red b) differentiate this line, smooth the differential and take the differential again the max and min of the (smoothed) second derivative represent the inflection points. 2) Compute the line for the step riser. a) Compute the x midpoint and the x range of the riser. b) select the real data points that lie within the middle half of this range. The idea here is to avoid the inflection points which will tend to make the regression line rotate clockwise. c) do a linear regression on these points. d) compute the points on the line +5 and -5 x points and draw the line. The +-5 is just a number to get the line drawn visually beyond the clutter of the graph. 3) Compute the line for the lower step. a) Take the first 75% of the points between zero and the inflexion point diccovered in step1; compute the linear regression. b) Draw the line to inflection point +5. 4) Compute the upper step. a) Similar to the lower step, but instead of using 75% of the range from the end of the graph to the upper inflection point, skip the same number of points as was used in the lower step. This is because the upper step is often longer than the lower one, as there is no urgency to stop the experiment.
  21. Hello I need to find the three slopes of a rising step shaped curve as shown in the large xy graph. This is for a conductivity program where sedimentation rates are measured as conductivity. My approach is to find the best polynomial fit in the range of orders 2 to 12 by picking the lowest mean standard error. This seems to be an order 8 curve in my initial test cases. I then do a simple differentiation (subtract previous from current value through the best fit array). Repeat the differentiation again on the first derivative array for a second derivative. I had expected the maxima of the first derivative to be the middle of the straight sectors. However the 8th order function is a little lumpy and the second derivative has some unwanted bumps which might hide the maxima. Can some mathematically inclined member point me in a better direction. I'm after the three straight lines that best fit the three segments of the main curve. Thanks John
  22. Thank you all I've taken some help from all three! Seems to work fine! I start the read VI as a VI_Server 'Run' method, and stop it using a global signal and the Stop vi primitive. It seems to need the read vi to have its front panel open…no doubt work on this will solve this issue. Yes, it is part of my home page project. I like the idea of using computers and particularly the Internet to help relieve peoples sickness. With this new go-fast you have helped me add maybe an expert will look at a larger image and make a better decision than if he didn't look because it took too long to open the maximized cview. Now to get a few intermediate sized compressions too. Merry Christmas to you all John
  23. Hello I need to choose one of several thumbnails to view a larger image. This seems to work fine. If the user clicks on the larger image I want to show another, sometimes very large image at maximum size. This seems to take a few seconds on the type of computer my users will have. This is the problem, the time it takes to read and display the large image. What I'd like to do is start the process of reading the very large image as soon as the user has clicked on a thumbnail, and then abandon it if he clicks another, even before the reading has finished. In general terms I'm looking for a method to abort a vi while keeping the calling vi running. John
  24. QUOTE(bsvingen @ Oct 23 2006, 08:44 PM) Now This is really interesting. But I look at it from 180 deg the other way! I work a little with php and HTML and miss my icons. I wrote a few little tools to generate decoding arrays and so on. However a clean interface which generates and uploads php script from inside the LavVIEW environment would be really useful and 'spread the word'. Imagine generating php SQL statements from inside LabVIEW icons and avoiding a misplaced quotation mark, or tangled order ot names and avalues. The ideas about teams of people working together on a competitive entry would add to the fun. Best Wishes John
  25. Great I'll be coming from Montreal. Anyone care to share driving? I live near Fairview. John
