Probe on cluster doesn't work
Dave Graybeal replied to george seifert's topic in Development Environment (IDE)
After a bit more research it appears to be caused by a Daqmx Device Constant. I'm not sure where this Daqmx Device Constant Came from, but it is the reason we are seeing this. Attached is a vi that shows the constant, as well as a picture. Anyone know where this constant came from? Dave Graybeal -
Probe on cluster doesn't work
Dave Graybeal replied to george seifert's topic in Development Environment (IDE)
After a bit of investigation ( and a ton of disconnecting type defs ).... it would appear that the gray cluster probe is caused by the probing of the daq cluster within the cluster. Attached is an even smaller vi that shows where the gray probe is comming from. I'm not sure what it is yet, but I figured that I'd post this breakdown in case someone else might be more familiar with this issue. Also attached is a picture that shows it. I hope this helps get this figured out. Dave Graybeal -
Not to spin too far off from this topic, but has anyone else that uses thunderbird and mozilla had trouble keeping your id in thunderbird? It seems like once a week or more I move my cookies.txt file from mozilla (which has always kept me logged in) to thunderbird. I seem to have to keep doing this because somehow thunderbird will quit remembering who i am. Anyone else see this? Dave

Thanks Jim, It may not have been a problem on your end, it's not uncommon for the pc's in my department to have some issues. Dave

*Looks for the openg premium membership button to help bring the server back up* heh, I was all excited this morning about the openg forums being rss enabled. I went to get registered ( which i was surprised I wasn't, because I coulda swore i signed up before ) and when I went to do the account activation via the e-mail BAM :!: down she went. Not sure if this was just coincidental or if there was something buggy with my activation, but I figured I'd let you know in case it helps debug any issues (unless of course its down "as intended" for patching or something). I was actually hoping to get my rss setup for it yesterday, but my co-worker (van18) toasted my laptop this week with a cup of coffee so it's down in another department for repair atm. I thought I'd beat Jim to the punch about OpenG premimium memberships related to server being down Dave

Jim, Thanks a ton, this fixed my problem I was having perfectly. The file for some reason was marked as read-only (odd since I didnt remember even installing it under my 8.2 directory yet), and as soon as I removed that attribute it installed perfectly. I then closed labview and re-opened it and I see the OpenG palettes as they were intended to be seen and used. Note: I just realized the reason why it was read-only was because the folder apparently made its way into our SCC and a get latest version put it under my 8.2 directory with read-only privelages. Now its time to take a look at all the tools . Thanks again, Dave

The new standard in LabVIEW-Friendly Displays!
Dave Graybeal replied to crelf's topic in LAVA Lounge
Rofl, this was the perfect post to come back to after lunch. Truly made me laugh  It does make me really curious as to what the person that discovered that was creating.... Dave -
Here is a picture of the error message that appears when i try to install the dynamicpalette package. I realize that I should have posted this thread in the openg forums, but I'm just so use to comming here on a daily basis(I also know that many of the same people are at both forums as well so I guess i figured it would reach them the same). Anyways, hopefully this picture will help detail the error I'm getting and clue someone in as to how to fix it. I'm not sure if the dynamicpalette not being installed is what I'm lacking in order to view the openg palettes in labview either, so if someone knows for sure please let me know. Thanks, Dave

I'm not sure if anyone else has had a problem like this before or not, but I figured I'd ask. Just yesterday I downloaded the latest version of the VIPM and installed many of the openg packages. They all seemed to install properly (except for ogrsc_dynamicpalette which gave me an Error code 8, which said something about error with PostInstall.vi) however, when I open up labview there was no OpenG palette in my Addons (or any other) Menu. I temporarily added the _openg.lib folder to my palette as a subpalette so I have access to the VI's while I'm working on getting the Palettes installed properly. How is the OpenG toolkits supposed to be installed in the palette? Thanks, Dave

I was just having a bit of fun really. I figured that this wasn't a real requirement. I didn't however realize before starting to read this thread that an about vi (or similar) with the copyright information was required on all built EXE's. All of my EXE's have been for internal use however though, so luckily it's really not that big of a deal for me to make the modifications and re-distribute throughout the lab. Considering that a large number of people probably never read the license, I wouldn't think it would be a bad idea for a reminder window or just reminder text box to be displayed during the building of an EXE through the application builder. It wouldn't have to be anything demanding, but just a simple text in the builder that reminded the user to include such information as needed. Dave

Alright, I guess the about copyright information isnt really that big of a deal just a bit of an annoyance. The snipet about it being required on the front panel though... thats just downright ugly! It takes a lot of work to get some of the front panels for applications to have a nice look and feel to them. Having to toss in some copyright info just seems like extra clutter that would detract from the display. Hmm.. by reading the Quote about the front panel requirement... I see that it doesnt really say anything about copyright size requirements. As a matter of fact it doesnt really say anything about visibility either... I wonder if a size 1 font copyright notice moved to the background and placed behind a decoration would work. :ninja: Dave

Ahh, much better I figured it was just something temporary. Thanks Michael! Dave

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but has anyone involved with openg.org (I believe its run by Jim Kring) talked about having an RSS feed. I'm not sure if an RSS feed for openg.org already exists or if it's something thats just a major hurdle to get implemented, but I know I would be much more prone to gather and provide information there if one did exist. Just an idea. Dave
-
Hey all, Just went to retrieve the RSS feed and my thunderbird client is telling me that the RSS feed is not valid. I'm assuming this is probably just a temporary thing, but figured I should ask in case somethings moving and I'll need to repoint. Dave Graybeal

Speak of the devil... lol. I believe it was just yesterday that I read a post about the HHH and how we actually haven't seen a HH in a while. Then BAM. Dave

First Time i saw that one. I also watched labview future version 77 which was pretty funny. Are these all made by and for Internal NI employees? I'm just curious because the few i saw looked pretty professionally done. Dave

[CR] Tree Control API
Dave Graybeal replied to Norm Kirchner's topic in Code Repository (Uncertified)
I would just like to say thanks! These VI's are going to help ease the pain of working with Tree Controls. Tree Controls are great, but where a bit messy to get everything into and out of. This set of VIs (although I haven't put them to use yet) are going to make using Tree Controls much cleaner. Edit: I also just noticed the INI Viewer. Very handy little tool! Even if someone isn't looking for a way to make working with Tree Controls easier, they might be interested in checking out this tool. Thanks, Dave Graybeal -
I've seen this happen as well before with a NI-4461 Audio Analyzer Card. I believe it had to do with multiple places I had inserted the Card. I started with the Card in slot 4 and it was auto named "PXISlot 4". I then moved around my cards and saw one card Named PXISlot 4 (which was actually in Slot 5) and another NI-4461 card named "Dev1 (which I can't remember what slot this showed up in). I'm curious, did you happen to do something similar? Dave

When would *you* schedule NI Week? (if you had the choice)
Dave Graybeal replied to Jim Kring's topic in NIWeek
Time to continue the Michigan thread series and say that any of the cold Michigan months are a good time to go to Texas. Of course based on this years weather, its hard to tell when our cold months will start ;p -
Wow, no kidding. I would have never guessed the numbers would be that close. I like firefox alot myself, however due to old habits I find that I still nearly always click on IE to surf the net. Some old habits die hard. That alone led me to believe that there would be a greater gap between the two. Dave

Alright, I think I might be missing something here. I looked at the program attached in the 2nd post of this thread, and I think I'm a bit confused about its purpose. What is it that this is meant to provide? By reading the post and the title of the thread I was expecting a vi that could be used as a template to create a simple event based application. Now of course NI does provide examples of how to do this, so I was expecting something vastly superior to them. My first impression when I opened the block diagram of the program was that it wasn't as simple as I was expecting. I see there is a lot going on, and I can follow most of it, however I guess I'm just missing something because I don't get the advantage to using this over a single queued event driven state machine. Another thing thats clouding my understanding of the code I think is the confusing routes of most of the wiring. I'm hoping that someone can help explain what it is that makes this a more powerful queued state machine. I might also recommend straigthening up some of the wires where possible in hopes that maybe it will make the reasoning for using this as a simple event driven state machine template more clear to someone looking at it for the first time. Welcome Santosh, I'm sure you'll enjoy the information that you'll be able to pick up here. Lava is a great way to continue your labVIEW education! Now to ask a question, in your post you stated: "it's nice to see the LV junta sharing their thoughts and experiences here." I was just curious what "junta" meant? I wasn't sure if this was just something that didn't translate or what. Welcome again Dave

If i'm reading the question correctly, I would suggest that one possibility would be that you could transform both the timestamp and datapoints to a string before putting them together in an array and writing them to a file. If you have an example that you can post of what your trying to do I might be able to come up with a better suggestion. Dave
