QUOTE (neB @ Sep 3 2008, 09:06 AM) More importantly, can they make a really good stew when they are done?

    Wii

QUOTE (jaegen @ Sep 3 2008, 04:38 PM) My kids rented Mario Kart wii last week, and it was really cool racing against people around the world. One of my kids spent hours trying to set a world record on one of the courses. That's one Christmas present picked out!

  5. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 26 2008, 12:24 PM) Thanks Toby, I am trying to improve my commenting skills (i.e. hammering it into my head to DO IT!). The project aspect is probably going to be the biggest challenge for me. I do 99% of my work in 7.1, so I have not really used projects. When I got 8.0 I was confused by them, and I need to learn more about them. Do you know of any resources with detailed information about them? The info included with LV is pretty crappy (as usual). Tom, thanks for your input and analysis on this.
  6. QUOTE (Yair @ Aug 28 2008, 03:53 PM) Awesome Yair. Flatening it in LV8.0 drove it insane (objectively)! Here's your trophy. A virtual trophy for what was virtually a VI.
  7. QUOTE (boone_93 @ Aug 28 2008, 09:38 AM) Does he get to pick which two minutes?
  8. QUOTE (neB @ Aug 26 2008, 11:38 AM) Didn't every University have a PDP-11 in the late '70s? I wrote my first program on a terminal connected to one. That's one piece of history you have there.
  9. QUOTE (Tom Bress @ Aug 21 2008, 01:25 PM) There aren't user groups everywhere, and not everyone can go to Developer Education Days or NI Week. QUOTE (Karissap @ Aug 25 2008, 07:00 PM) For some programmers peoples lives and safety do depend on their code. LabVIEW is being used increasingly in critical process control and medical instrumentation. "Ugly Code" and Race conditions have killed people before eg. the infamous Therac-25. Ugly code makes software harder to review, find bugs and test. So beware of the killer spaghetti code!
  10. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 25 2008, 01:12 PM) I got the same suckage as Norm. I also got a link to the NIWeek 2006 Blog - with a defunct link to a video of Norm dancing
  11. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 25 2008, 02:04 PM) Toby, Would you care to share your effort? I don't want to look at it until I give it a try, but in particular I'd like to see your documentation style. I am trying to bone up for the CLD, and I think documentation is probably my biggest weakness. I only have LV 6, 7.1, and 8.0. Good luck on the CLA.
  12. Only if you care if your web page is on the 1st or the 10th page of a relavent search.
  13. QUOTE (normandinf @ Aug 22 2008, 09:38 AM) Yeah, I did one last year, and every time I open it I want to undo the collors, but can't afford the time (or don't want to expend it).
  14. QUOTE (PaulG. @ Aug 22 2008, 09:25 AM) What made it worse was that because of differences in hardware at different stations, there were 4 customized version of the same code! Deciphering it took longer than replacing it (one version, 4 .ini files).
  15. QUOTE (Darren @ Aug 21 2008, 06:36 PM) Somehow I don't think that the colleague that I inherited this VI from would appreciate (in BOTH definitions of the word) this conversation! http://lavag.org/old_files/monthly_08_2008/post-9577-1219404729.png' target="_blank">

  17. QUOTE (Norm Kirchner @ Aug 20 2008, 02:09 PM) That must have come out in 8.0. It's not in 7.1. QUOTE (neB @ Aug 20 2008, 02:06 PM) On TCP palette "String to IP" if you don't wire an input will return machines IP. If that works for you, thanks got to Rolf, if its wrong please forgive me. Ben That's what I have always used Ben.
  18. Eleetrika, Please do not post .BMP files. Convert them to .PNG format (or jpg) and repost. Not many people are going to waste the time to download a 2.25MB file, much less two of them.

    Insane error

QUOTE (Neville D @ Aug 19 2008, 01:30 PM) Any idea what versions of LV this key is valid for?
  20. I once interviewed for a job as a lab manager. My first interview was the existing manager (Sam) who would be the lead lab manager. I then interviewed with his boss. The first question was "Tell me why you are better than Sam". I have no idea what my squirming answer was, but that was a great question to see how well the interviewee reacts to a tough situation.
  21. QUOTE (TobyD @ Aug 18 2008, 11:58 AM) Amen. I have spent entirely too many hours totally re-writing VIs written by someone who is intelligent, but has no clue how to properly compose a LV application. Pursuing certification has vastly improved my code, which I see as validation of it's usefullness. The biggest problem I have with it is the cost of being up to date in the latest version of LabVIEW. I have been programming in LabVIEW for 7+ years, and have had the latest version for ~6months in '04-'05 and 6 months in '06.

  24. The music on my hard drive runs across a wide spectrum. It seems kinda wierd to hear a sequence like - Dave Edmunds, Thelonius Munk, Dream Theater, Chet Atkins - but it ain't boring! Otherwise it's usually www.jazz24.org.
