Good News Bad News

Hey,

Great news, LavbvIEW 8.2.1 at last

We are moving our project over from LabVIEW 7.0 to LabVIEW 8.2.1. At last we will be able to play with Xnodes, OO and many of the other things I keep reading about on these forums.

The bad news is that we have moved over from individual licenses to a volume concurrent license schemewith the licenses server located in a remote head office. So whereas with version 7.0 we could have a copy at home to play with, we can no longer do this with our concurrent license  , has anyone else come across this problem.

From the NI License

-------------------

6. Home Usage Exception. Notwithstanding anything in this Agreement to the contrary, if you are a business or other entity, the designated Named User for (or in the case of single seat license, the primary user of the single computer on which the SOFTWARE is installed and used under) the applicable license may also install and use the SOFTWARE on one (1) computer located in such user's home; provided the use of the SOFTWARE: (i) is pursuant to one of the licenses enumerated in Section 2 above (other than a concurrent use license) and (ii) on such home computer is limited to work performed in the scope of such person's employment with you and further provided such person promptly deletes the SOFTWARE from the home computer upon the termination of his or her employment with you or termination of this Agreement (whichever is earlier). Notwithstanding the foregoing, If you have a concurrent use license, this Home Usage Exception does not apply to you.

cheers

Our seats are user based, so I haven't had to deal with this. The best you could do is check with your IT group and ask if there are VPN services you can use. You would load the software at home, then connect to the office via VPN to validate your license each time you run.

There shouldn't be too much of an issue with speed, it would depend on the frequency with which LV "checks" the server.

(My experience is that you can load LV in eval mode and as long as you don't exit the app, you can exceed the 30 days limitation; it seems to only check on startup. :ninja: )
