  1. Most outlet have no polarity. There are no kind of problems using Us bi voltage appliance New outlets shoud be polarised but you have no way to know if it is a new or an old one ! if you are leaving in an old flat ( more than 10 years old ) be careful with the earth. A good idea is to use only one wall outlet ( and a multi outlet ) for all the appliance who are connected by usb or ethernet. As you can have a volatge betwen earth of 2 outlets. A friend of mine as a problem with the fridge and it cost him a printer a computer and a modem ( the fridge survive ) . Félicitations for you girl friend She could try to enter ENA a " Grande Ecole ". ( Science Po is an Institut )
  2. You could use a SKF BALL SCREW http://www.skf.com/portal/skf_us/home/news?contentId=510217. in a mechanism. in all cases you need pieces to be made on purpose , How high is the torque? precision efficiency is grease allowed in the vicinity and so on ? . You should ask a mechanical engineer with a lot of details.
  3. I use Mindmanager and Cmap. Mostly for presentations it is very usefull to organise documents , and to answer questions . Basicely Mindmanager organise tree ( you can make tree from a structured text written with Word and write text from tree ) Cmap use graphs and I do prefer that.
  4. It is exactly what I wanted to say. Nobody believe that global warming is an invention of a huge conspiration of scientist .
  5. thank you I will have a try with Scilab and Maxima
  6. Mapple and Simulink are interesting but too expensive for most of my students. What do you think of Maxima and Octave ???
  7. In France most most people think that climatgate is very american, some kind of conspiration plot , very Dan Brown . The global warming is seen as a fact, ( the measurement of the air bubble in the antartic ice show it, it has been made by different labs from differents wells ) . One point I can see is wine . The wine has more alcool than before sometimes 14°( 11/12 before in south of France ) in Alsace the Riesling has too much sugar. And you can find winery in south England .
  8. In France we have "securité sociale" health universal insurance . As a worker I pay a third of the cost my employer 1/3 and state 1/3. For the unemployed it is free . I pay a small amount for a complementary "mutuelle" a kind of co op to have a private room at the hospital and about 100 % coverage. I had to stay a week at an hospital for surgery of the knee it cost me nothing . The surgery was first class performed by a famous surgeon . The system is costly of course but the big huge problem come from private insurance compagny they want to make money with health and they are lobbying very hard to break the system ( born in 1946) They have already some succes with our new president . By exemple he decide a special tax for the coop and he is trying to downsize the public hospitals ( universities ) to favorise the private one . The total in GNP is about 14% the US one is about 16% ( to be verified ) . And medical studies , as all universties studies are free . 9. http://www.20sim.com/downloads/downloadform.html you can download the free software .
  10. It is all about numerical value. Most of the load cell are designed to measure only the force in one direction. If the load cell is subjected to force to other direction and to bending the measurement is false and the load cell can be destroyed. Look for the documentation of the load cell. Have you pictures of all the system. What is the context?
  11. The spherical bearing prevent the propagation of bending. If the load cell is bended the spring is subjected to coupound sollication it is bad for the precision.( and it can damage the cell ) in other world You must have an idea of the sollicitations. What are the component of the screwer ( torseur ) on the cell? Some numerical value could be interesting.
  12. you have only to choose the language in the right: http://www.skf.com/portal/skf/home/products?maincatalogue=1〈=zh&newlink=3_3_11 or http://www.skf.com/portal/skf/home/products?maincatalogue=1〈=en&newlink=3_3_11 or in USA: http://www.aurorabearing.com/ You can also find this kind of spherical bearing in car suspension front wheel . You can find them in a junk yard for exemple for cheap. But may be it is too big for your application? [Of course you must cut the chain. And have only traction / flexion and no kind of bending. 13. It is difficult to answer to your question. It lacks so many details about the whole system. where this problem come from? Are you a student? the quality of the picture is very low . out of focus. take good pictures of the differents parts , make drawing with a pencil and paper Have you made some drawing? . First of all you must know: intensity of forces rigidity of load cell. it looks like an hyperstatic problem. Not too easy to solve. The long answer is : - full drawing (pencil and paper ) - schematic view - stress and strain calculation or approximation. The short one is use some http://www.skf.com/portal/skf/home/products?maincatalogue=1〈=fr&newlink=3_3_11 it looks like the load cell have thread use it for the skf parts. NOta ; if you have only compression you could use ball from ball bearing . jason
  14. Thank you for the fun of this link. Very good musical. I just send a link to my friend Tony!
  15. Many thanks for all this work. Lava is back it is the very good new of the day
  16. Hi, I am also interested in vibration measurments. I use also the free version of http://www.20sim.com/ to perform simulations ( 1 hour of use allowed ) JJ
  17. I am looking for people using 20 Sim ( http://www.20sim.com/product/20sim.html) and LabView . 20 sim is a general simulation software ,it use a lot of way to programm system from iconic diagramms to Bond Graph. The good new is the software demo is functionnal ( but you cannot save your work ) http://www.20sim.com/downloads/downloads.html The demo can be very usefull in a classroom. One interesting feature is you can work on files stored by LabView.

    earthed

QUOTE (JasonXCX @ Dec 8 2008, 09:03 AM) Thanks very simple good idea, I find that no links between earth and output. I believe that the earth is used to a make a screen against HF emission from the power supply ; So I will use this small netbook with my usb device , small and very easy to carry everywhere. Jason

    earthed

QUOTE (JasonXCX @ Dec 5 2008, 07:51 PM) I dont understand some adaptater ( the alimentation 220 V to 15V ) are earthed . With a PC I had before some problem with a ground ( earth) loop between the pc the acquisition device and a machine tool . So I am careful. but I believe you are right and that with a laptop and National device I will have no problems. Thanks

    earthed

QUOTE (JasonXCX @ Dec 4 2008, 10:21 AM) so sorry to ask such a silly question

    earthed

I am about to buy a net book to use with my USB 6211. I have notice that some of them have an ac adaptater with 3 wire plug ( live neutral and earth ) and some with only Live and neutral. I wonder why ? . is the usb plug earthed ??? Sorry for this silly question but ..... (For partical reason I would prefer the unearthed one .)
  23. QUOTE (Antoine Châlons @ Oct 23 2008, 08:34 AM) Thank you Sure it needs a lot of practice to use all this wonderful video toys. The mechanisms are really nice . But my personal taste id for huge clock chimney old clocks.. electrical clocks .
  24. QUOTE (Antoine Châlons @ Oct 21 2008, 10:15 PM) The mechanical product is quite amazing but the video is absolutely ugly, a new picture every 0,2 second you can see nothing of this very nice watch. i just see some very surprising gear tooth , this form is not adapted for non parallel axes, but as the video is too fast and very badly done I may be wrong . this kind of video is made by a so called "artist" in French a "communicant " : some people who knows nothing about nothing but speaks make video and son on ; Jason
  25. QUOTE (Gabi1 @ Oct 14 2008, 10:41 PM) My ego would be very pleased if you were worst than 2,91
