QUOTE (orko @ Apr 13 2008, 04:08 PM) Maybe we're both nuts?

Feature Request (tell me if I'm bonkers): it'd be nice to right-click drag a VI in a class and then select "create copy". Some of my methods are similar (in layout at least), and this would speed up my development. In fact, maybe this isn't an idea that should be restricted to OO? Maybe this would be useful throughout the project explorer?

QUOTE (neB @ Apr 11 2008, 02:40 PM) I don't know about your physical condition, but you'd have to be very short and out-of-shape, and I'd need to revoke my beliefs in non-violance for me to have any chance QUOTE (neB @ Apr 11 2008, 02:40 PM) I don't beleive either source but I try to perfom a transform to the "truth plane" based the common items listed in both. Very well said Ben!

QUOTE (orko @ Apr 11 2008, 01:53 PM) I'm not comparing it to anything else - just because <insert friend's name here> jumped of the harbour bridge, would you? QUOTE (orko @ Apr 11 2008, 01:53 PM) Don't get me wrong, the updater may have very well offered a choice to "opt out". Fair enough - that's what I was missing. That said, I'd prefer an opt-in rather than and opt-out. Take the java RTE installer for example: it gives you the option to install OpenOffice - I'm sure it's a great product, but I'm not interested in it right now - and the installer offers it to you, but with a opt-in option - I like that. Both of those statements depend on whether the user agrees and that supports my view: make unsolicited software opt-in, not opt-out.

QUOTE (orko @ Apr 11 2008, 01:25 PM) I don't like it at all - give me the option to install it, but don't push it on me. It's an updater - so it should stick to updating. Personally, I think an updater installing unauthorized software is a big security risk.

QUOTE (PaulG. @ Apr 11 2008, 01:12 PM) People often tell me about something they heard on "the news", and then I have to ask them which network they heard it from so I can try to minimize the spin. Most networks do it, it's just a matter of which direction they spin I get most of my news from the http://news.bbc.co.uk/' rel='nofollow' target="_blank">BBC...

QUOTE (souske @ Apr 10 2008, 09:18 AM) I don't know anything about your application, but have you considered doing your ultra-time-critical work in FPGA? Or maybe some of it and then stream data as needed to the RT host?

QUOTE (neB @ Apr 10 2008, 08:57 AM) The same is true for any country, state, province, region, etc in the world. That's why it burns me so much when someone says something like "I hate the French" - my response is "Have you met all of them?" I've travelled a fair bit across the world and have settled on the idea that people are people - irrespective on where they are or what value system they grew up with. I'm not interested in changing anyone just because they have different beliefs or ideals than me - I'm more interested in learning from them to understand their point of view. Who knows: maybe I'm the one who's skewed? No one is better or worse than anyone else, they're just different. Oh, and before I conclude my off-topic rant: another saying I really struggle with is "they don't know any better" - it's condecending, and, when you think about what it really means, ridiculous. Try something like "they don't know any different" instead. PS: If you're interested in finding about more about my way of thinking, check out Dharma. I'm by no means a Buddhist, Hinduist, Sikhist, Jainist, etc (they're religons based on the underlying principles of it), but I kinda get the idea of Dharma. QUOTE (neB @ Apr 10 2008, 08:57 AM) * Please note I am invoking "Kring's Law". Noted: there'll be a frosty beverage waiting for you at NI-Week. QUOTE (neB @ Apr 10 2008, 08:57 AM) I have often asked out loud "is ther anyway we can give XX back to YY ?", "What if we paid YY to take them back?" Yes - in an Absolut world...

QUOTE (JFM @ Apr 9 2008, 01:51 AM) I know we've hijacked the thread, but this isn't an issue that we should rely on LabVIEW to handle for us - it should be fixed in proceedure we use day-to-day. You shouldn't try to edit a file that you don't have permission to - LabVIEW has the setting to treat read-only files as locked, and it's a really important setting to use if you're using SCC (you should be able to have your SCC system have all locked files read-only). So, yes, if you're not following standard operating proceedures, you can get into the situation of loosing block diagrams - the answer is to follow standard operating proceedures. Sorry - I know that wasn't my most lucid post, but I haven't had my morning beverage yet QUOTE (jpdrolet @ Apr 9 2008, 09:20 AM) I think a solution to avoid this would be that LabVIEW keeps VI files opened (deny write) while they are in memory. Great idea!

FYI: I just want to let you all know about Machine Vision Online - it's an industry trade group of manufacturers of machine vision products and has a lot of general support information. Specifically, there's a new Ask The Experts section where you can define questions about cameras, lighting, lenses, etc and have industry experts answer them.

QUOTE (Aristos Queue @ Apr 8 2008, 05:07 PM) Yeah - I can see how that'd occur. Answer = Don't manually screw around with files that are open (and that means in any application - not just LabVIEW).
