  1. QUOTE (Neville D @ Apr 7 2008, 12:21 PM) That's right, although you do need to buy a license for the IEEE-1394 IMAQ toolkit (as far as I remember, it comes free with NI firewire cards). QUOTE (tmot @ Apr 7 2008, 01:08 PM) Could you recommend some good readings about lenses? Try this I usually talk to my camera/lens vendor about lenses - working out the simple stuff based on the FOV and WD is pretty straight forward, but the vendor will know all the little idiosyncrasies that could ruin a simple project.
  2. QUOTE (tmot @ Apr 7 2008, 10:38 AM) I pretty-much exclusively use http://www.alliedvisiontec.com/' rel='nofollow' target="_blank">Allied Vision Technologies firewire cameras. They're, of course, not as cheap as Logitech webcams, but you get what you pay for.
  3. QUOTE (raptonx @ Apr 6 2008, 07:22 PM) There is a jpg-to-ASCII VI around somewhere (I used it a few years ago and it worked great). Show us your code.
  4. QUOTE (Michael_Aivaliotis @ Apr 2 2008, 09:45 PM) That's because you are. Happy Birthday mate

  7. QUOTE (Michael_Aivaliotis @ Apr 1 2008, 01:21 PM) Pffffffffft! QUOTE (Michael_Aivaliotis @ Apr 1 2008, 10:04 PM) Update: I passed this over to Invision support. It might be a bug. They're looking into it. Sweet - thanks!

  9. QUOTE (David_A_Moore @ Mar 31 2008, 11:59 PM) Nice one mate! You even waited until midnight to post it!
  10. When you have a long link in an article, the RSS feed post shortens it. For example: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/935BA7FB426305398625711E0055F1FA becomes http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/935...625711E0055F1FA ...but the actualy url of the link's hotspot is also shortened. I don't mind the text displayed being editing, but shouldn't the actual url remain unedited? This means that, to follow a link, you need to first follow the "Read More" link to the forum, and then find and click on the link you were looking for. It'd much more inuative to just follow the link from the RSS posting. Currently, it looks like this: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/935...625711E0055F1FA It should like like this: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/935...625711E0055F1FA
  11. QUOTE (shoneill @ Mar 31 2008, 11:55 AM) Bloody oath QUOTE (shoneill @ Mar 31 2008, 11:55 AM) I'd love to see it taken apart by crowbars and axes..... And then have someone say into the camera - "We KNOW where you are!". Imagine his bar emptying after THAT! I'd love to see that!

QUOTE (neB @ Mar 31 2008, 10:29 AM) Hey Ben - it's obviously something you beleive in, and you've posted in the lounge (where anything goes), so I don't think you should be compelled to delete your post, irrespective of the replies you may receive. I may not agree with you, but, as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelyn_Beatrice_Hall' rel='nofollow' target="_blank">Hall once said, "...I'll defend your right to say it..."* *part of this saying has been removed, as I'm not willing to go that far

  16. QUOTE (shoneill @ Mar 31 2008, 09:02 AM) I wouldn't be so sure - I've seen several reports of several tolerated vigilante behavior over here. QUOTE (shoneill @ Mar 31 2008, 09:02 AM) And to do it anonymously is particularly cowardly. Yeah - I wonder if he thought that painting it black and writing "SECURITY" on the side would make people think it was more official? I think if something like that came at me, I'd have a go at kicking it over - show *that* to your patrons on your big screen TVs over the bar!

QUOTE (orko @ Mar 29 2008, 07:51 PM) Right - there's very little, if any, power consumption differences when using an LCD monitor. CRT monitors, on the other hand, do use more power when displaying brighter images. So, if you're still using a CRT monitor, tell your boss that switching to a new LCD will help save the planet
  19. QUOTE (Norm Kirchner @ Mar 28 2008, 06:24 PM) I actually thought of that when I was writing the post: "who's going to be the first smart arse...?" Thanks for not disappointing me Norm
  20. QUOTE (Omar Mussa @ Mar 28 2008, 01:37 PM) That is one of the most distrubing things I've ever seen - how could a civilian think they would have the right to use such a device on people in a public space? QUOTE (PaulG. @ Mar 28 2008, 01:59 PM) You're not letting that thing near my backside. Boom boom!
  21. Hi All, I just wanted to give everyone a quick and friendly reminder: if you think someone is violating our forum guidelines, please use the button to report it to an administrator - chastising them in an open forum is poor form, and violates our forum guidelines as well.cheers, crelf QUOTE (Forum Guidelines Excerpt)

  25. QUOTE (xcgeek @ Mar 27 2008, 01:29 AM) Have a look at LabVIEW Mastery. QUOTE (PaulG. @ Mar 27 2008, 10:36 AM) I don't want to discourage you. LV is well worth knowing. But start small. "Baby steps". I couldn't agree with Paul more - learning a new programming language is like learning a new spoken language - there might be some similarities with other languages that you speak, but there'll be more differences than not. Going from C to LabVIEW? Think English to French - you're not going to be speaking it fluently on your first project.
