  1. I replicated your code on my machine and it ran as an executable without issue. I used LabVIEW 2011, NI-DAQmx 9.5.5 with MAX 5.3.2 (if that makes any difference).on a Windows 7 machine. Have you tried just using simulated DAQ hardware (unplug the USB devices)? It may not solve your problem, but if the code runs with simulated hardware and not real, then it may help pinpoint if the issue is hardware related.
  2. I have been playing with the project templates in LabVIEW 2012 and have a question with regard to the coercion of control references in the Queued Message Handler. In the Message Handling loop of the QMH a cluster is used to pass data, including control references for front panel controls. Attached is a screen shot showing the typedef constant that defines the cluster and a Bundle by Name function to include control reference data. Note there are no coercion dots on the Bundle by Name function. Assuming I need control references in my application, I modify the cluster constant and control references for my own application. The difference I have noticed is that I now have coercion dots on the Bundle by Name function where I wire the new control references in. See the attached picture for an example and more details . It would appear that the Control reference is a strict-typedef based on what I have tried, even when the control not even a typedef. The questions that come to mind include: Why is the reference strict-typedef? Can I turn off the typedef, or do I need to? How did the developer create the QMH template without typedef? Maybe I have read about this elsewhere, but I cannot find anything with Google. Does anyone have an explanation as to what is happening, or what I am missing? Thanks in advance.
  3. If you have considered using Perforce (the SCC NI uses), but put off by the price, or the 2 user limit for the free version, you may be interested in the following. The free version now allows up to 20 users and 20 workspaces with unlimited files. More information here: http://www.perforce.com/downloads/try
  4. You need yo confirm this as my information may be dated, but you used to be allowed 3 attempts. If you failed 3 times you had to wait several months (6 rings a bell).
  5. Take a look at the rendezvous example that ships with LabVIEW. You will note that the Wait on Rendezvous is inside the While Loops.
  6. Thanks. I am not going to waste any more time on this. I don't mind doing someone a favor when sat in my hotel room watching TV, but this looks like it is ongoing. Correction, it looks like it is turning into a marathon!
  7. Take a look at the attached code. I have modified your code so that the initialize and shutdown portions are not executed on every iteration of the loop.Instead of acquiring one point of data , the VI measures 100 data points, scales and averages the result. I used the threshold VI to checks that the contents of the array exceed Weight Limit Threshold. The assumption is we have a steady reading. You may need to modify this part of the code, but hopefully it gives you an idea of how to proceed. Hope this helps. koncna_vaga_edited by DC.vi
  8. Without wishing to stray too far off topic, you should take a look at a utility called Plop Boot. It contains an ISO file that can be used to boot a virtual machine, that can then be used to boot from a USB stick. It works on VM Workstation, which does not support booting from a USB drive. I don't think it will help you get an RT application running, but I find it useful for other occasions.
  9. The System Configuration library is accessed through the Measurement I/O palette: If it is not there, then you may need to upgrade NI-DAQmx (you don't say which version you are using). I think (while scratching head) you need to be beyond version NI_DAQmx 9.2., but I could be wrong.
  10. I have an aversion to allowing memberships to renew automatically, call me old fashioned but I want to know when money is being taken from me once a year. When I follow the process for paying I never see an option to disable renewals, even though it is refereed to on the site. Does the option exist, or has it been removed? If all else fails I will generate a one use credit card number. Thanks, David.
  11. Thanks! I like the user interface in Opera. It is a little more intuitive and quicker to use. That said, I use both Chrome and Opera on my phone and Firefox and Chrome on my PC (I gave up on IE9).
  12. Just logged into LAVA with my Droid X2 and the mobile site looks good in the default browser. Tried the same using Opera and was shown the full site. This could ne and issue with Opera, but mobile support would be excellent. I will now post this and see how many mistakes my soft keyboard introduced. I miss my Blackberry keyboard.
  13. QUOTE (crelf @ Aug 26 2008, 11:07 AM) It appears we have 2 topics about the same subject, so at the risk of being shouted at for cross posting, here is a link to the NI site web page discussing the cruise. It will be linked to from the LabVIEW OOP course page once we get the page updated: http://digital.ni.com/express.nsf/bycode/cruise

  15. QUOTE (LV_FPGA_SE @ Aug 18 2008, 09:52 AM) When we first developed the certification program we were acutely aware of the need to ensure the exams tested for real world development skills. The reputation of other certification programs have suffered in the past, because you could pass the exams without having any real world experience (learn for the exam). For example, the reason we set a time limit of 4 hours is to ensure candidates can solve problems and develop applications in a reasonable amount of time. This is a measure of your cost effectiveness and is (or should be) important to both customers and employers. So yes, certification = experience (less so with CLAD, but still some). If someone can pass the exams by simply attending the appropriate training courses, then we have a genius in our midst. The buzz phrase in certification is "scenario based exams", where the exam resembles (not duplicates) real world situations. Good scenario based exams will test your abilities based on real world experience. This is what makes a practical CLD exam so good; you simply cannot test the same level of skill using multi-choice questions and you cannot pass the exam unless you have used LabVIEW. Before I finish let me address the topic of certification for NI employees. The biggest stumbling block to internal certification has been resources. We simply don't have enough people to mark exams for both external and internal candidates. We are working on ways to reduce the level of effort required to administer and mark a practical exam, but we have not reached that point yet. In all my discussions with others at NI no one has ever suggested that allowing people to become certified will translate into employees leaving the company. People don't leave companies because they gained a certification, they leave for other reasons (e.g. grossly underpaid, bad managers, personal reasons, lack of job satisfaction, etc.) and certification is simply enables them to get out more easily (My 10c). This is a great discussion and gives me insight as to where people see value in certification. David Corney Training and Certification Program Manager P.S. I also get to mark CLD exams occasionally and I am not certified. I am not allowed to take the exams, because I mark them.
  16. QUOTE(aoshi @ Oct 26 2007, 04:00 PM) Hello aoshi, You should check out the Connexions site at www.cnx.org. This is a site developed by Rice University where you will find lots of LabVIEW resources, including a Basics 1 self paced course. The course is written for LabVIEW version 7, but will teach you all the basics you need to get started. Now that I have pointed you to all the great free material, I need to also recommend the courses that National Instruments offers :-) If time and budget permit, they are an excellent way to get up to speed fast. Check out www.ni.com/training. Regards, David Corney Customer Education Program Manger
