  1. Still wetting myself laughing... until I am forced to use it I guess
  2. QUOTE(Ben @ Jun 22 2007, 08:26 AM) I'm taking the Advanced I classes now (last day tomorrow) and the trainer (Nancy Hollenback of National Analytics) gave us an updated CLA outline dated April 2007 that is also on the NI website, here (PDF). On pages 7-8 it lists items including X-Controls. I don't know about the re-cert, but it would make sense that they include subjects/technologies that weren't present in the previous test... Unfortunately, I was a couple points shy of passing my first attempt at the CLD . I scored high on style and documentation, but I didn't have complete functionality. Four hours just isn't long enough to do a good job in my opinion; but others have managed to do it so I guess I'll just have to try harder. If it was too easy, everyone would be a CLD and it wouldn't be worth as much...
  3. I had a bit of free time today and started to look at and think about the Palette API and the Polish VIs. I then thought about my feable attempt to create a library of [wiki]Block Diagram Images[/wiki] and all the cut/paste/save & name and then TRIED to create a VI that would extract the images for a given palette using the LabVIEW name. It's simple to get the icon image for a VI, but the "built-in" functions expose their graphics as a 1D array of U8s. I'm not a bitmap/image type of guy, so here is what I've got so far. I used LabVIEW 8.2 and the SuperSecret?! ini setting to access the Palettes:Get Menu Information method. http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6181
  4. QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ Jun 20 2007, 03:30 AM) Thanks! I've noticed that the forums seem slower today (while using Standard mode). If Outline Mode adds too much server overhead, I vote to end it too. I like it, but have gotten used to Standard mode over the last few weeks.
  5. QUOTE(BrokenArrow @ Jun 19 2007, 09:05 PM) I've created a wiki entry for [wiki]Race Condition[/wiki]. There's lots of great info on these forums. Maybe they should join LAVA (or even better http://forums.lavag.org/LAVA-Premium-Membership-t2449.html' target="_blank">become premium members  ). Maybe we need a "Send Invitation" button...
  6. QUOTE(engineer123 @ Jun 20 2007, 08:43 AM) Hi, I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. The VI you posted work "as it should" -of course- but maybe it doesn't run as you think it should. I think you should run it once in highlight mode to see what happens. My guess is that you want your VI to keep runing until you press button 1 and button 2 and to tell you how much time has elapsed between these 2 events, am I correct ?
  7. QUOTE(BrokenArrow @ Jun 19 2007, 09:32 AM) The placement of the control and indicator don't follow the left-right top-bottom conventions of the LabVIEW Development Guidelines. The race condition would be more obvious if the conventions were followed. I had to do a double-take because the indicator was above the control and wired from the right. These sorts of problems can be found with the VI Analyzer Toolkit. I've been using this more and more and like it (although its a bit anal sometimes) I need to make my own configuration at some point.
  8. Peace sign?! I almost replied with the same response; I was even going to link to this. I wonder what a "Last call!" icon would look like. Maybe something like this
  9. This looks really nice. I often navigate between the dialog boxes for description & tip and VI documentation and perform cut/paste. With this, you could edit in one place  http://themacview.blogspot.com/2007/06/imp...umentation.html
  10. QUOTE(jbrohan @ Jun 18 2007, 11:04 AM) If you need every bit of space on the USB drive and DON'T need U3, you can http://www.u3.com/uninstall/' target="_blank">get a utility that will remove U3. It will also remove everything else on the USB stick, so its best to do this only on a new device.
  11. I don't know if your problem is the same as mine was, but I couldn't use LabVIEW 8.0.1 with timed loops that used Digital Change Detection. See here... http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?boar...e.id=6287#M6287 I loaded and built my app with 8.2 and it worked as it should have.....
  12. I guess I'm the odd duck (again). I've always used the outline mode and would vote to keep it. I'll bet 97.73% of LAVA readers use Standard mode . Maybe alfa and I are the only Outline mode users....
  13. Congratulations! http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6076 I checked the list for U.S. CLAs yesterday, it appears the number I counted a few months ago is the same, 66 architects. I don't think I'm anywhere near qualified to take the CLA test, but I will be taking the Advanced course the week of June 25th.
  14. QUOTE(LV Punk @ Jun 4 2007, 06:59 PM) I felt the same, 4 hours is quite short but I think it's a good way to separate good from best. I only have about 2 years experience in developping "real life project" with LabVIEW so before taking the exam my feeling is that I should not try to implement everything because I'm not good/fast enough (yet ). Before sitting for an exam one should pre-estimate his own skills and define a reasonnable target. People with great experience can afford targeting 40, and I'm sure they can do it in less - a bit- than 4 hours. After reading the subject, I decided to focus on implementing ~90% of the specifications, and to do it the best I could. So my target mark is 36, and if I am close to this I'd concider I did very well. This is common sense
  15. QUOTE(fonzo @ Jun 4 2007, 01:42 AM) I just finished taking my test this morning, and I agree about the time. It seems 4 hours is just not enough time to do a good job. I felt as if I was in an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Chef_America' target="_blank">Iron Chef for LabVIEW episode!
  16. QUOTE(eaolson @ May 31 2007, 05:01 PM) good shot
  17. QUOTE(Eugen Graf @ May 31 2007, 03:34 PM) "На здоровье" is russian (and to be pronouced "na zdarovia") and "na zdrowie" is pure polish ("v" does not exist in polish) the czech version is not far (equal?) to the polish version.
  18. QUOTE(Mike Ashe @ May 31 2007, 03:11 PM) Well come on... What answer did you get ???
  19. QUOTE(Ben @ May 31 2007, 02:39 PM) lt means "cheers" in polish (and maybe also in czech, I'm not sure).
  20. QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ May 31 2007, 12:44 AM) Maybe G-string / thong / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameltoe' target="_blank">camel-toe related
  21. Testing the auto-expander... <acronym_autoexpand> WTF? IANAL but I'll take a SWAG. IMHO NI ("NI") should not be expanded. Imagine if every post containing ASCII, OOP, CAPTCHA, HTML or TCP/IP were auto-expanded. OMG I might not recognize my own writing. The thought of this leaves me ROFL. </acronym_autoexpand> Just wanted to see how much it expanded; play time over... BTW and FTR, I'm not excited about autoexpanding. LV_Punk FKA pbrooks 100 and AKA Phil Brooks (CLAD and testing for CLD on Monday). OK. Stop it. I will. Really. TCIGTM (the coffee is good this morning). P.S. Placing quotes overrides the autoexpansion. It only expands NI as a single free standing instance of the "word". I was also able to enter Alt-255 in front of and behind the "word" to fool the expander... Strange. When I come back to the post later, the ALT-255 doesn't seem to "stick". If I edit and view the post it's OK for a while... P.P.S. acronyms might not be such a bad idea, if they could function like the ones that I added to this post via "insert special item" "Insert: Acronym". Someone not familiar with CLAD could over over the word and see it's definition... Oops, remembered this post...
  22. QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ Apr 23 2007, 07:38 AM) Ok, If you need any LV 8.2 or SN or K-e-y-g-e-n or other toolkits for developing your project. Please call me! All are free!
  23. I received my mug from my father who received it from Jeff Kodosky. See here
  24. QUOTE(Michael_Aivaliotis @ May 31 2007, 06:34 AM) And what about "NI" that becomes "National Instruments" ? Will "MS" be turned to "Microsoft" shortly ?
