  1. QUOTE (Minh Pham @ Nov 10 2008, 07:55 PM) That's another poorly worded one (although I assume that you're okay with the ones that aren't poorly worded ) The trick is to not answer the question literally, but give the answer that you know that examiner wants. In this case, I think that they're trying to highlight the auto indexing terminal, so I suggest that they're after C. :!: Note: when you find questions that you think are unclear, please please please let NI know about them :!:
  2. QUOTE (Minh Pham @ Nov 10 2008, 07:55 PM) That's why it's a poorly worded question
  3. QUOTE (jgcode @ Nov 10 2008, 08:04 PM) Indeed - I really like that NI's exposed that capability. They did the same with Vision Builder AI - if it doesn't quite do what you need, you can call your own code  QUOTE (Kirit @ Nov 10 2008, 08:47 PM) I already have a data acqisition system by which i can read the teperature of the thermocouple and i am able to diplay the temperature in the front panel. And i have learnt just now to write them in a file... Upload your code and we'll try to help.
  4. QUOTE (jgcode @ Nov 10 2008, 06:06 PM) It is? Hmmmmm - you may be right... I don't have a preference for either as I think they do slightly different things. VI Logger is all about logging (I think it comes free with some DAQ cards?), whereas Signal Express is about giving the operator access to a whole bunch of interactive stuff. Aside: I know a lot of LabVIEW programmers that shy away from VI Logger and Signal Express (and TestStand for that matter) because they think that they can develop their own utilities more quickly and with more appropriate features from scratch in LabVIEW. My answer - that *may* be true, but work to meet the requirements of the project that you're working on (use the right tool for the job )
  5. QUOTE (Minh Pham @ Nov 10 2008, 06:55 PM) A) 10 V signal with 0-5 V ADC range: Signal is from 0 to 10V, ADC is from 0 to 5V, so a gain of 0.5 is appropriate. B) 5 V signal with 0-10 V ADC range: Signal is 0 to 5V, ADC is from 0 to 10V, so a gain of 2 is appropriate. C) 10 V signal, with 0-10 V ADC range: Signal is from 0 to 10V, ADC is from 0 to 10V, they match so no gain required. D) 1 V signal with 0-10 V ADC range: Signal is from 0 to 1V, ADC is from 0 to 10V, so a gain of 10 is appropriate. QUOTE (Minh Pham @ Nov 10 2008, 06:55 PM) All of the following are components of an error cluster, EXCEPT: It's not a particularily well worded question, but the answer is D - all of the above are error cluster components.
  6. QUOTE (Kirit @ Nov 10 2008, 04:37 PM) Use http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/6569' target="_blank">VI Logger.
  7. QUOTE (hooovahh @ Nov 10 2008, 04:02 PM) So, intentionally flooding a flood-proof safe
  8. QUOTE (Minh Pham @ Nov 10 2008, 12:46 AM) Really? What faculty? I graduated from the Science\Physics faculty (it's not important when ) on the Broadway campus. Does the bar still have the cheapest beer in Sydney? My wife (Information Science faculty) started at the Kurringai campus and the moved to the Broadway campus for here final two years. note: OK - we've hijacked this thread so much, I just had to split it into it's own thread
  9. QUOTE (jgcode @ Nov 9 2008, 05:22 PM) OK - thread officially hijacked. I started drinking it at uni too (UTS) because no one else in my dorm would drink it, so it was safe in the common fridge Thankfully I've found similar brews here in the US: Shiner Bock when at NI-Week in Austin and Motorcity Brewing Works Nut Brown when at home in Detroit.

  11. QUOTE (Gabi1 @ Nov 9 2008, 01:35 PM) I don't think I've ever used I without P.
  12. QUOTE (ned @ Nov 9 2008, 11:02 AM) True, but often P is all you need.
  13. QUOTE (jgcode @ Nov 8 2008, 04:32 AM) I'll drink to that  PS: on my recent trip downunder, I wasn't able to get to my home state (New South Wales), but I was thankfully able to find my favorite beer (Tooheys Old) on draught in Melbourne. The bar chick told me that you can get both Tooheys Old and Extra Dry on tap all over Melbourne now - it's good to see that Victorians are starting to come to their senses...

  16. QUOTE (blitzkrieg @ Nov 8 2008, 02:57 AM) It's not difficult to write one yourself - think of it as a functional global.
  17. QUOTE (ASTDan @ Nov 4 2008, 10:00 AM) Wouldn't it be sweet to have a waterproof/fireproof safe with a little PC in it that wirelessly did your backups? It could have a UPS to shut down nicely. The only issues would be how to get data and power to it, and heat dissapation...
  18. QUOTE (mballa @ Nov 6 2008, 11:11 PM) So... I suggest that we increase the value of this coding challenge by approaching NI to suggest they use it in place the current three button dialog. Would the submitters be okay with their code becomming part of vi.lib?
  19. QUOTE (ASTDan @ Nov 3 2008, 08:29 PM) So when are you going to start webcasting those?
  20. QUOTE (Norm Kirchner @ Nov 7 2008, 10:52 AM) I never knew that you were so cheap http://lavag.org/old_files/monthly_11_2008/post-181-1226125186.gif' target="_blank">

  23. QUOTE (Aristos Queue @ Aug 3 2008, 10:20 PM) Any word on that? I just wrote a new template architecture using heaps of LVOOP, and then had to rewrite a lot of if it using a by-ref model (for those playing at home: I chose dqGOOP) because I was reminded that the architecture was going to be used in both Windows and RT.
  24. QUOTE (Daklu @ Oct 29 2008, 03:11 PM) I'm not so sure - if you can show a positive ROI, there aren't many managers in the world that wouldn't be at least interested in hearing what you've got to say Your time is worth a lot more that a license of VIPM (TobyD is soooo right about the 10 for 1 model), and buying tools gets you back to doing what you're really paid for. You wouldn't try to write a replacement for Microsoft Word - you'd just pay the license fee and use. I know that's an extreme, and you need to weigh up the functionality vs cost model, but in my experience VIPM is easily justifiable. We write our own tools, and the support that's required to keep them going is costly (imagine if you left the company and someone else took your place - how much IP do you have in the process that you're carrying out that's not on paper?) Not buying tools like VIPM stops you from doing your real job, and that's what your clients are paying for - that means that you need to hire others to share the load that you're supposed to be doing, so there's more cost there. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.
  25. QUOTE (Yair @ Oct 29 2008, 03:43 PM) The pollution that is created to transport the hardware has much less of an impact on the environment than uncontrolled destruction of the potentially toxic materials that are in consumer electronics. Another major issue is that used PC equipment is often passed off to less fortunate communities and third world countries for some more use toward the end of their lives - while that's great that they are continuing to be used, it shifts the responsibility for safer destruction to communities and perhaps cultures that are less knowledgable and/or have less opportunity to pay for safe destruction. I applaud NI for taking this step - old NI hardware may only be a drop in the ocean of the PCBs and components around the world, but every little bit helps, and providing this free service shows that they are taking the responsibility of end of life destruction seriously.
