  3. QUOTE (Tomi Maila @ Dec 5 2008, 12:32 PM) Formally, we use an internally-defined variation of the the VEE Model, but in practise we usually informally extend it to the Dual Vee model. This process takes a little getting used to (you need to balance the benfits from how deep you want to define things). ...and as for requirements - they are key. Learn and live by the IEEE 1288 standards for requirment verbiage - doing so has several benefits: it protects you from scope changes, it makes sure that the customer knows what they're going to get, and it's a standard that is common in military, aerospace, medical, etc industries, and if you're used to using it then you'll have a competitve advantage. Take a look at this.

    Dual Monitors

QUOTE (carlover @ Dec 3 2008, 11:22 PM) There's a guy in our office that uses that to work across four different screens each attached to a different PC (including two laptops). Freaky to watch, but he's used to it and doesn't think twice about it
  6. QUOTE (Shazlan @ Dec 3 2008, 06:23 PM) Then you've got a dud hub. MAX will see DCAM compliant cameras, irrespective of drivers that come witht he camera, and if it works without the hub, but doesn't work with the hub, then the hub's bad. Either it's faulty, or it'd not providing enough power to the camera.
  7. QUOTE (BobHamburger @ Dec 2 2008, 10:13 PM) What? On top of the six bottles of Château Latour 1945, a double jeroboam of champagne, and half a dozen crates of brown ale (half my usual allowance)?
  8. Right - the power from the hub should be enough to power the devices too. The four wire port on your laptop is just the data lines, so the hub should inject power across the other two pins of the 6 pin connector for devices. Maybe google the pinout of the 6 pin connector and then put a meter across the power pins on the hub to make sure they're hot.

  10. QUOTE (Jim Kring @ Dec 2 2008, 12:43 PM) We appreciate you being here Jim - it wouldn't be the same without you. I particularily appreciate your more pure software engineering and process-driven approaches to some of the more esoteric topics.

QUOTE (FLAnatic @ Dec 2 2008, 09:12 AM) Do it! Not only will your productivity increase, you'll find programming much easier. A note on being able to see the FP and BD simultaneously: it's very very useful when using execution highlighting, probes, etc.
  12. QUOTE (ASTDan @ Dec 2 2008, 11:44 AM) Me too - it comes with the OS and it does everything that I* need, including scheduled backups. *I say this not as a representative of V I Engineering, Inc: I use the Windows backup utility at home - I have no idea what our IT department uses in the depths of their multiple server rooms...
  13. QUOTE (Norm Kirchner @ Dec 2 2008, 09:36 AM) That goes without saying...
  14. QUOTE (neB @ Dec 2 2008, 08:28 AM) I think he gets to keep the certifications (in fact, I *think* that NI staff are now permitted to sit the certification exams internally?) but I think he's going to have to abdicate from the http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5059' target="_blank">Loyal Order of the LabVIEW Champion.

  24. Maybe this is why The Captain's joining NI - to take over from Tim... I'm really going to miss Tim being up there - he always played the straight man to counter the geeky engineer. PS: I'd love to see Norm up there, reading some horribly cheesy schmultzy "the software is the instrument, harnessing the networked synergies of the economies of scale" line
