I've got an even easier and ultimately cheaper way - use a "serial concentrator". They're dedicated cards that have many many ports on them, and are specifically made for what you want. They just show up as ports in MAX, and you access them in LabVIEW. The only limitation with them is that they're expensive, but you're in luck! I have a bunch of them in my prototype lab left over from a recent project (we used 128 ports simultaneously with no issues at all), they're brand new in the box, that I can let you have for a very low price (we're not using them, so I'd prefer to see someone get some value out of them rather than just taking up room in our lab). Let me know if you're interested.

I remind everyone that the standard method to reply to posts that you think are from members seeking homework is to tag it "Homework". If you think the post violates our policies in some way, then click on the "! REPORT" button next to the post and list your concerns to the admin or moderator. :!: Do NOT reply to the thread with your suspicions. Doing so may be considered malicious, is against our forum rules and opens YOU up to a suspension period. :!:

I'm not sure if anyone else subscribes to failblog (members send in humorous images, videos, etc), but here's an example of something that was on their site today: ...and *that's* why more people need to think like physicists!

How to make my default "sub vi terminal pattern"

QUOTE (Securitysuite @ Nov 18 2008, 07:33 AM) From the number of responses that you got from your original post, I'm going to suggest that the asnwer at this stage is no.

Maybe contact NI directly - they might be able to help you out.

QUOTE (PaulG. @ Nov 16 2008, 08:57 PM) You got something better? Seriously, if you do have something better, or even an idea on how it could be improved, I'd like to see it (and, I'm sure, so would NI). Personally, I think that the report generation toolkit is pretty damn comprehensive. PS: I don't think that a day perfecting a complex report isn't unreasonable.

QUOTE (Jim Kring @ Nov 16 2008, 01:27 PM) Perfect explination Jim - the term "mutual exclusion" is the important one, and the OO example was the first one that came to my mind too. Another example is instrument control: say you have one VISA serial instrument that you write commands to and get results from - and two (or more) parts of your software that call it. You can wrap command/response pairs in a semaphore so the different areas of your software don't clash (eg: command from A, then B sends a command before A has queried it's response - very messy ).

QUOTE (j_man51 @ Nov 15 2008, 07:13 PM) Hi James - and welcome to the wonderful world of LabVIEW I've made a career out of playing with similar things using LabVIEW and it's a whole lot of fun! So, you say that you've got what you want working on a Windows PC - is that a program you wrote using LabVIEW? The software that comes with the iUSBDAQ has some examples (they're are probably what you've got running okay), but they are compiled code that is running under the LabVIEW run time engine. To create your own custom code (I think that's what you're trying to do) then you do need to install and program in LabVIEW. Thankfully, LabVIEW has a 30-day evaluation mode where you can make your own code, and it also has an academic version (if you're doing this through your school, then they might already have academic licenses). If you can give us some more info on what you're trying to acheive in your essay, you might even find a few professional engineers here that are willing to help you out...

QUOTE (blitzkrieg @ Nov 13 2008, 02:06 PM) You will be looping anyway, as to acheive your setpoint. Maybe I'm not clear on what you're trying to do - as always, the best way to clarify is to upload your code so we can all see what you're trying to do.

QUOTE (TobyD @ Nov 12 2008, 05:01 PM) My bad. I think that "hustler" is generally a negative term (let's not talk about the magazine ). Perhaps it would be more constructive to limit it to just "homework"?
-
QUOTE (TobyD @ Nov 12 2008, 03:28 PM) No, a moderator did. Tagging is there to help you to find things, and IMHO I don't see the value in "Homework Hustler" as a search term. If you have anything negative to say about the validity of a post, use the "! REPORT" button, not the tagging system. I'm not sure if deleting tags can be limited to Mods and Admins...
