QUOTE (shoneill @ May 19 2008, 04:52 AM) That's something I never got: what's the difference between belief and faith? I'm not sure you've fully explained it. PS: you may not align to a particular religion, but IMHO your beliefs are pretty close to non-mystical Buddhism...

QUOTE (Justin Goeres @ May 18 2008, 09:55 AM) This is a great question, and one that our IT department asked about a year and a half ago when we were upgrading our laptop fleet. Generally, the laptop we chose was the Lenovo T61 with a 17" screen, and everyone also has a widescreen LCD on their desks - when you put the laptop docking station in just the right place, you effectively have two screens. That said, I personally resisted the move to the 17" for exactly the reasons you listed, and I got a Lenovo T60 with 15" screen instead, and I have two LCDs on my desk - perfect There has been a general runmbling from our staff that, while it's fun to have a wide 17" screen, they're not fun at all on the road - using them in airplanes is almost unbareable (not only is there little room on the seat tray, but physically getting such a large laptop out from under the seat in front of you is apparently very awkward (not that it worries me as I always fly business class, right? ) Anyway, my 15" is great on the road, and having 2 LCDs is great for the office. IMHO I don't think it's the size that matters but the resolution - 1400 x 1050 is plenty for me when I'm travelling. Also, I ride a motorcycle, and my 15" T60 fits perfectly (in it's little laptop case) in one of my saddlebags - I don't think I could get a 17" in there. QUOTE (Aristos Queue @ May 18 2008, 10:37 AM) I do find myself wishing for a more direct way to pull the Project window to the front. The longer I work on a laptop, the more I want a "floating window" option for the project window, or a shortcut key for bringing it to front. That is a fantastic idea! You should add it to the wish list

I was digging through old threads when I found this one and realized that I'd never Simpsonized myself, so here goes: QUOTE (gleichman @ Jul 29 2007, 10:43 PM) Yeah - I'm not too upset about that

QUOTE (chukhivuitinh @ May 17 2008, 12:45 AM) Yep - it looks like your USB/Serial converter isn't fully supported by VISA. I suggest you contact NI to find out if there is a work-around. Otherwise, I'd buy a new USB/Serial converter that is known to work with VISA like this one (there are plenty of other slightly cheaper ones available too - just search LAVA). -
QUOTE (TobyD @ Feb 1 2008, 02:58 PM) I just wanted to ping this as an outstanding suggestion (not outstanding as in awesome, but outstanding as in I'd still like it )

QUOTE (Tomi Maila @ May 16 2008, 01:37 PM) Ahhhh - now I understand what you're trying to do. RT does indeed do deterministic video output - I've done with the NI CVS units, and it has DIO as well as an accessable onboard FPGA. QUOTE (eaolson @ May 16 2008, 02:46 PM) It's getting a bit off-topic, but how do you do this? I have a monitor connected to my PXI system (mostly if I need to boot into Windows), but I've never known any way to display anything on the monitor. From the http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/323246a.pdf' target="_blank">IMAQ Vision for LabVIEW™ Real-Time User Manual: QUOTE (Chapter 4, Page 2) PXI Video Out allows you to display images on a monitor that is connected to your PXI controller. To access this feature, input 15 for the Window Number parameter in the IMAQ WindDraw VI.

QUOTE (neB @ May 16 2008, 02:42 PM) It's not a crazy idea at all, but it's been done: http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/ We could offer our services to create or get their drivers to the NI certified level though...
-
QUOTE (Tomi Maila @ May 15 2008, 11:22 AM) It can't gaurantee determinism, but do you need to display the movie through LabVIEW? Could you just launch media player and play it as an avi or the like?

QUOTE (Antoine @ May 16 2008, 10:47 AM) I'm not sure that's what's being asked for - I think what you're after is those scripting capabilities to be exposed outside of the LabVIEW development environment. I'm not privvy to that information (that's really a question for NI), but I strongly doubt it's available.

QUOTE (neB @ May 16 2008, 09:42 AM) Not directly, but you can access the UIs of VIs running on RT (enough acronyms for you?) through a web service. You can also use the NI TPCs with shared variable access which is pretty cool.

QUOTE (JDave @ May 15 2008, 12:50 PM) I was talking to a mate of mine last night and we agreed that we're both non-mystic Buddhists: we agree with the principles of the dhama, but not the religious inclinations od Buddhism. QUOTE (JDave @ May 15 2008, 12:50 PM) I believe in atheism that's an awesome oxymoron - I love it!

QUOTE (TobyD @ May 14 2008, 02:32 PM) No worries If I remember correctly (and I usually don't), there are three colors: yellow = thread safe, orange = thread unsafe, white = LabVIEW can't determine, so it runs it thread-unsafe.

QUOTE (TobyD @ May 14 2008, 02:26 PM) The dll is not reentrant (it's orange - if it was reentrant, it'd be yellow).
