QUOTE(yen @ Aug 11 2007, 10:55 AM) NI doesn't go for the LCD - they used to, but IMHO they have done a lot of work over the past few years towards a fairly good balance now. They need to have sessions for the beginning user as well as the advanced user. Sessions from people like Stephen Mercer, Jan Klasson, Mike A and Dean Streck show that they are committed to the latter. Whilst I agree that it would be nice to have some even deeper stuff, I just can't agree with comments like "...NI goes to the LCD" because it's just not true anymore. You said that you are a LabVIEW guy, so I just wanted to make sure that everyone's clear that your comments refer only to the LabVIEW sessions that you attended. I think painting NI-Week with such a broad brush is unfair. It may not have appealed directly to you, but I'm sure a lot of people (including myself) got a lot out of it this year. When it's all said and done, I really hope that your discussions with NI to tailor NI-Week more toward what you're after work - after all, NI can't read our minds, and the only way we have a chance of getting what we want is to ask for it.

QUOTE(TG @ Aug 11 2007, 11:03 AM) I know it's not what you asked for, but "Running with front panel open.vi" is missing when I tried to open it with LabVIEW 8.2.

QUOTE(yen @ Aug 11 2007, 10:10 AM) All of the sessions that you listed are either behind-the-scenes or about things that NI doesn't officially support (or even acknowledge). I may be sounding a little harsh here, but did you honestly expect to see these kind of sessions? NI-Week is partially about learning how to use LabVIEW, not how the NI engineers created it. Sure, I'd love to see some of those things as well, but only out of curiousity - I more interested in you to use the features to do my own cool stuff than how the tools I use were created.

QUOTE(george seifert @ Aug 10 2007, 03:02 AM) I don't think it's fair just saying that without either explaining why or linking to somewhere that goes into detail.

QUOTE(Aristos Queue @ Aug 10 2007, 04:06 PM) Whether you're in to this sort of stuff or not, Stephen has done an amazing job on these. They were highly coveted at the BBQ (including by me), and, with the LabVIEW 8 ball, Stephen's thinking of opening a LabVIEW House of the Occult...

QUOTE(i2dx @ Aug 10 2007, 04:50 PM) I see that one as being a little confusing to begin with, but I like how it aligns more to the simulation and modelling way of doing things.

QUOTE(yen @ Aug 10 2007, 09:36 AM) This year's NI-Week had some excellent sessions and was the most technically-advanced one yet. We also got fewer technical sessions presented by marketing, and more by R&D. We also had more sessions presented by technical people in Alliance companies. No offense, but if you really think that only one or two sessions had "proper content", then you didn't go to the right sessions. Personally, I usually follow the "I don't bring engineers to NI-Week because there's not a lot of technical stuff" line - and this year's NI-Week has certainly changed my mind - expect to see more V I Engineering technical staff in '08... PS: looks like we're trying to hijack the thread - if you'd like to discuss this further I suggest a new thread be created in the LAVA Lounge...

QUOTE(skof @ Aug 9 2007, 11:44 PM) I'd disagree with that one - I think what you've described isn't a major defect - you're use of the word "undesirable" means IMHO that it's not quite what we wanted, but it'll do. To me, the word "defect" isn't the one we should be concentrating one - it should be "requirement non-compliance". A defect is completely subjective, whereas a requirement compliance is traceable. QUOTE(Ben @ Aug 10 2007, 12:43 AM) CRELF invented GOBs if that helps. I'd love to claim that one as my own, but it was a colaborative effort between several engineers at VI Engineering, Inc, lead by David Hoadley. I've since taken over from David, so I'm working on the case studies to improve and validate GOBs (amongst other metrics) and I'm the lead VISTA Tools Architect (no, not the VISTA that you're thinking of ), but I didn't invent it. QUOTE(skof @ Aug 10 2007, 12:52 AM) Sure, this is a function of the development and testing teams to define what are Major Defects. Programming environment can just give you a "number of nodes" value to calculate Defect Density. It can also give you cyclomatic complexity, which can be used as an indicator to code completeness, as well as (as the name suggests) how complex a code chunk is - and this can often be translated to the highest probablity of defects (I'm speaking very loosley here).

One of the stipulations on us using the NI buses is that we need to let the drivers know where we want to stop for beet on the way. Has anyone got any ideas? Where did we stop last year? If you know, please post a google maps link here.

QUOTE(David Boyd @ Aug 7 2007, 08:27 AM) No worries Dave - you're welcome to turn up at whatever time you like. That said, we'll be in a private function room, so I don't think you paying the Salt Lick directly will work - that's ok though - you can just pay me directly. QUOTE(Irene_he @ Aug 7 2007, 01:44 PM) I hope I can make it to LAVA/OpenG BBQ, because I am still stuck in Buffalo right now. C'mon Irene - we're all really hoping you can make it

GREAT NEWS! Jeffrey Philips from NI just called me: he got us a second bus  Please make sure you're waiting outside the Austin Convention Center on Trinity Street (the north west corner of the building) at 5:45pm sharp! QUOTE(njkirchner @ Aug 7 2007, 02:06 AM) We've found it (or, at least, we know where it is).
