  1. QUOTE(LV Punk @ Aug 29 2007, 07:30 AM) Hehe... I like Brian's almost paranoid closing to that blog: "I still look back over my shoulder to see if I've missed something, but I'm confident that "serpdrv" won't be coming back." But maybe, just maybe....
  2. QUOTE(Eugen Graf @ Aug 29 2007, 04:01 AM) I'm assuming that you are seeing this is in LV 8.0?
  3. Welcome, Rabbit! I think that you will find the LAVA forums to be one of the most useful tools you can have in your toolbox! Take your time and explore, or post specific questions to the appropriate forum. There's a wealth of knowledge on this site!
  4. QUOTE(dsaunders @ Aug 28 2007, 01:07 PM) Weeeeell.....that's interesting! I just set my shortcuts, said "cool!", posted my message and went along my merry way.... No. Mine are lost when I exit LabVIEW as well  QUOTE(dsaunders @ Aug 28 2007, 01:07 PM) I only get one item to show up in the Menu Shortcuts area even though I have three tools in the wizard directory. Argh...I guess this isn't going to work after all. Only one does show up in the Menu Shortcuts at a time (alphabetically the first in the directory I think). Sigh...
  5. QUOTE(dsaunders @ Aug 28 2007, 08:26 AM) This would be nice! BTW, you can link a keyboard shortcut to items in the "wizard" directory (the ones that show up in the "File" menu). I've done this in LV8.2 and 8.5 for the Locate in Project tool Jim and I cooked up. http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6786
  6. QUOTE(p27182 @ Aug 28 2007, 04:13 AM) Wow. Half a gig seems so small now, it's almost depressing. But if you're running on anything that rhymes with "Wind Blows" than yes, a gig is the minimum that I run with now. Makes a huge difference in XP.
  7. QUOTE(tcplomp @ Aug 26 2007, 10:41 PM) No! He's right!!! Look at the LAVA Forums logo real close.... http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6770''>http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6770'>http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6770
  8. There is some pretty interesting commentary about the making of this video in Larry Osterman's weblog. Another little bit of trivia is that the lead actress, Victoria Carver, also was the madam in a 1970's skinflik "The Godson" (check out the plot keywords...). No wonder I felt like this was the start of an 80's porno... I almost felt dirty after watching it! Wuh wuh Windows?
  9. I work for a US Navy installation, and we have LabVIEW developers diffused throughout the base that have little in common (project wise) but all share a common need for better understanding and differing viewpoints of LabVIEW and other NI software/hardware. The user group that we've started is brand new (we've only had one meeting so far) but the benefits of having one, if only to meet once every few months, are great in my eyes. All it took was for me to talk with my local NI rep and have him contact all of the developers he knew of in the area to get it started.

QUOTE(tcplomp @ Aug 24 2007, 10:49 AM) Since my manager is Uncle Sam, there's really only one option there. QUOTE(dsaunders @ Aug 24 2007, 10:54 AM) I hope something works out for you, even if it means moving elsewhere. Now it seems you should change the thread title to "Available" Now that you folk have talked me down and I've had a little fun (and you've shown your support...thanks!) I can close the tag. </rant>

QUOTE(Aristos Queue @ Aug 24 2007, 08:21 AM) Washington State. QUOTE(crelf @ Aug 24 2007, 09:08 AM) Crikey! We never restrict you from such things - in fact, we encourage it! Check us out if you're interested in relocating. It stuns me beyond belief as well. My prior employer was adament on using the resources that were available to their fullest...so this is a hard pill to swallow (choke on). Relocating would be an option for the right job, but there's the wife to convince... and she's extremely happy where she's working now (Registered Nurse at a local hospital). Optimally it would be great to get something in the western Washington area to avoid relocation. Grr...I didn't expect my rant to go right into a job search, but I'm really peeved and talking to the bosses isn't helping (nothing we can do).

Just an FYI in case anyone tries to reach me via email in the next week. They've really pulled the stupid card now, since I was transitioned over to a new email system last night and taken off of my existing account...and no one bothered to give me the login information. :headbang: <rant> I'm about at wits end. Without going into too much detail, my employer has cut off my lines of communication one by one making it almost impossible to do my job efficiently. The group of engineers I work with every day was moved away from here for no good reason, I can't chat online and am blocked from some important technical websites, can't view instructional videos on most sites, and now I'm being forced to a kiosk email system...so I can't send/receive email (when I'm actually able to log on) from my dev box at my desk anymore. Have to timeshare on two computers with the rest of my crew that's left down here in another room. Where's that jobs link....seriously. Screw it, I'm keeping the rant tag open for now. Anyone want a slightly mistreated CLD in Washington?
  14. You've reached this forum at the right time. With the release of LabVIEW 8.5, OOP is a hot topic right now. Welcome!
  15. Until HTTPS is available natively in LabVIEW, you could use a SSL enabled version of curl called from a system exec to do this.
  16. QUOTE(Val Brown @ Aug 24 2007, 12:11 AM) That is exactly my issue right now. And I don't see it changing significantly until NI supports training on LVOOP (or whatever we're calling it these days). Until then, all I'm saying to my boss is that I think I know how to use this stuff...kind of...and to give me more time to learn it. That isn't going to fly when we already spent thousands on advanced training that was based on the idea of having a certified developer on staff that knows what he's doing. Now I'm going to tell them that formal training isn't really needed to get a large project up and running with LVOOP...?? Uh uh. The good news is that I hear through the grapevine that there may be new LVOOP courses on the way (a new two day addition to LV Adv)...no telling when that will happen though. Until then I'm afraid I may be stuck doing LVOOP on the side as a "hobby".
  17. QUOTE(Neville D @ Aug 23 2007, 03:36 PM) I use a SubVI that all of my queueing and state management VIs (or anything else that is interesting really) write into with a conditional disable structure to turn it off when needed. That way I can run normally, or open up this SubVI and change the project condition to DEBUG=TRUE to see stuff happening in real time without changing any code. Works good for me, especially with multiple producer/consumer loops where there's some sort of timing issue to debug. I put in filtering so that I wouldn't clog up my debug window with stuff I wasn't looking for. http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6744''>http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6744'>http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6744 (LV 8.2) Now to combine this with the listbox idea... I like the idea of multiple entries being counted. Thanks Neville & Paul!
  18. QUOTE(NormKirchner @ Aug 23 2007, 02:03 PM) You mean like http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Cookie_Monster' target="_blank">C-Monster?
  19. Too much effort to mount it on the wall... now a touchscreen model on the floor and we've got a party! http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6739Let's Dance!http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6739
  20. I created a new version that goes about this in a different way http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6738 (LV8.2) It uses the private project method "Get Project Item From VI Ref", which is available in both 8.2 and 8.5. There is no loop needed for this, so it sped up the search time considerably on large projects. It will find all VIs in the project, regardless of if they are in library/class files (without opening up VIs set to "Open FP on Load"). It also will tell you when there is no active project window open, or if the VI wasn't found in the active project. Any ideas for further improvement?
  21. QUOTE(Jan Klasson @ Aug 23 2007, 04:43 AM) No, I can get to other .se domains, but the firewall is blocking the endevo.se domain for some reason. Thank you very much for the detailed explanation on the differences of community/professional and the pricing info. I'm still locked into finishing up my current project, but I plan to use LV8.5 for the next one and that would be a perfect time to evaluate/decide on your suite! I've heard a lot of great things about your product...
  22. QUOTE(tum @ Aug 22 2007, 07:08 PM) Please post an example VI to this board as an attachment so we can see what you are trying to do. Without the code to look at I really can't see where your problem lies. Thanks! I'm sure we can get this solved if we are all on the same page.
  23. QUOTE(Jim Kring @ Aug 22 2007, 04:21 PM) You caught me in the middle of an edit on my post I've provided a clearer explanation (hopefully) above. For instance, if I have: Main.vi calls SubA.vi which is using Typedef1.ctl Opening up Typedef1.ctl and Locating in the project opens up Main.vi's FP.
  24. QUOTE(Jim Kring @ Aug 22 2007, 03:53 PM) I thought I had! Here you go... http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6720''>http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6720'>http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6720 (LV8.2) One thing that also would be nice is to stop the FP of the top level VI from popping up. Does anyone else see this happening? 1) Close everything. 2) Open a project 3) Open a typedef control 4) Select File->Locate in Project" 5) I'm seeing my top level VI of my project heirarchy open up before the search is finished. I don't see a way to suppress thes behaviour (yet).
  25. QUOTE(Aristos Queue @ Aug 22 2007, 03:22 PM) Done.
