  1. QUOTE(jpdrolet @ May 30 2007, 10:32 AM) I like it ... but how would I keep my cats off of it? This thing would drive them NUTS!

    Compumotor 6k

QUOTE(dingin @ May 24 2007, 10:08 AM) I would think on upgrading from the 6K controller, also. Last I heard they were phasing that out in a few years. The new replacement is supposedly 100% compatible+. If you are going through all the effort you might as well upgrade the hardware as well.
  3. QUOTE(nhollenback @ May 21 2007, 11:33 AM) Just don't be messing up my FP with fuschia and periwinkle.
  4. QUOTE(BobHamburger @ May 16 2007, 11:25 PM) That might have been quite a while ago. This level of questioning is on the CLAD test at present. I have acquired a much deeper appreciation and respect for the validity of NI's certification program. Not only do certification exams tell a prospective employer how much I know, but the process of getting certified tells me how much I know - or don't know. The little mundane details in the CLAD can be learned by DOING ... for years ... or in a formal classroom setting. But the fact remains is that you KNOW them. The CLD tells me someone knows enough LV to solve a relatively complex problem and write a functional and well-documented solution - in 3 hours. That tells me something, and I think it says a lot to anyone who knows anything about LV.
  5. QUOTE(orko @ May 16 2007, 11:15 AM) I'll have to go through some of the practice exams myself before I dive into the CLD exam, supposedly sometime this summer. I always thought the only thing separating me from a CLD is a few months of steady coding on various projects in different areas. I can usually come up with a solution to just about anything ... but in the CLD you only get 4 hours. Sometimes I need 4 days.
  6. QUOTE(skof @ May 15 2007, 11:27 AM) Actually, I DO remember it quite well ... it wasn't that long ago. There are quite a few "trick" questions. READ each question very carefully. The CLAD throws an occasional curve-ball if you're not paying attention. Know the differences between graphs, charts, For and While loops, etc., that sort of thing. Just take a few practice exams and study the areas you are weak in. You should do just fine.
  7. QUOTE(i2dx @ May 15 2007, 01:25 AM) :worship:   :worship:
  8. QUOTE(hooovahh @ May 11 2007, 09:26 AM) It all depends on what you want your software to do. As a matter of opinion LV may not be the "best", but it's certainly the only one worth my time for what I want to do with my life. Don't you know? LV is going to be running the world in a few years.
  9. An Etch-a-Sketch for engineers. Let's mass produce it and give it to every grade school on the planet.
  10. I spent a lot of quality time with an ultrasonic c-scan application that acquired single channel data at 500 Msps, and it was capable of up to 2 Gsps. Although we were only taking 20usec of data at a 500hz rate I thought that was fast. The color-coded time-of-flight images created from this data looked very impressive.
  11. Previous to January of this year I was only an occasional LAVA visitor. I just got a lot more practical advice from the NI forums. That has not changed. Since I got my RSS feed working I have at least glanced over almost everything posted here since. I've already stated my opinion regarding posts that are not "asked the right way": Responses are set to 'ignore' by DEFAULT. That said, more than half of what I read here is either obscure guru-level stuff (X-Controls, LV , etc.), bashing Nullll, or continuing the bizarre 5th dimension thread. If the more active senior-level developers spent half as much time explaining "X-Controls, point A to point B", "X-Controls, point B to point C" or "The Joys and Evils of SVN" or "How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love Variants" as they do responding to Nulll's and Sally's we would be a lot better off - and it would really reduce the "snob" level I pick up here. I can't help but feel a little intimidated myself. I know a small handful of hard-core LV developers who can write kick-arse code in their sleep. But even some of them couldn't tell me the slightest thing about an X-control or when/where/why to use a Variant. I count on this place to explain stuff like this to me. This is a great forum ... but it has been heading in a downward direction lately. Have we forgotten why we are here? Regards everyone, PaulG.
  12. QUOTE(PJM_labview @ Apr 24 2007, 10:58 AM) My experience in R&D was a bit better. It was for a medical manufacturing company. I guess the operative word is "manufacturing", but I got the best of both worlds: R&D with an end and a new product, then moving on to the next new product. Nowdays the "R&D" is writing code to make LV do things I've never seen before.
  13. QUOTE(i2dx @ Apr 22 2007, 11:57 AM)    Finally a voice of reason and common sense. Responses are set to "ignore" by DEFAULT.
  14. Like JKring said: "probably not". However, don't be discouraged. I've worked with 3rd-party applications and some have gone very well, and some, well, you know ... ("wtf??") It all depends on the documentation the 3rd-party provides you. Any company wanting LV programmers to integrate our software with their application will provide reasonably adequate documentation. READ their documentation step by step. COM = ActiveX, that sort of thing. You will figure it out eventually. Keep plugging away.
  15. If all you want to do is save an image Gadwin printscreen is very flexible, intuitive and works quite well. I've been using it for years. And it's free. http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/

    QUOTE(Jim Kring @ Apr 12 2007, 09:53 AM) A Variant! (or is it a deviant?)
  17. QUOTE(Graeme @ Apr 11 2007, 05:32 PM) I saw this quite a few years ago. If you extend your significant digits out to about 18 you'll see where the "error" is coming from, but it's not really an error. It has something to do with the way your PC deals with dbl's. It can only handle so many bits.
  18. QUOTE(LV Punk @ Apr 5 2007, 04:44 PM) Robin Williams had a routine where he would go into a panic attack, musing over childhood angst. He remembers his father saying: "Lori, let's move. He'll never find us."
  19. QUOTE(PJM_labview @ Apr 4 2007, 11:09 AM) I'm glad it was you, PJ who put this little abomination together ... for fun  . I was going to say: "very clever".
  20. And I'm just getting started with Mindstorms NXT. But very cool indeed.
  21. QUOTE(John Rouse @ Mar 8 2007, 01:22 PM) "bowchickabowbow" Can LV go that far????!!! I must be a PG-13 LV kinda guy. I'm still just wading ankle-deep in the R-rated world of variants.
  22. QUOTE(orko @ Feb 28 2007, 06:10 PM) Last year, after using 7.11 exclusively and daily for over 2 years the powers-that-be at the time forced me to jump directly from 7.11 to 8.20. After lying in a fetal position for a few weeks I turned out OK. Go for it. The sooner the better. 8.20 is awesome compared to 7.11
  23. QUOTE(Jeff Plotzke @ Feb 26 2007, 05:44 PM) Does this have anything to do with "DP"? (I would Skype you but you're offline. )
  24. Sorry, boss. Just a little too "out there" for me. Does this person have a job???
  25. Simple is best. I like a 3rd-party windows application called Gadwin PrintScreen. In the entire LV community I have found little in the area of simple print screen functionality. But Gadwin works quite well. I had a client (PhD in physics who was the director of test engineering for a huge sputtering target manufacturer) who loved this program. He had my LV application running, moved his windows around to WYSIWYG, pressed the printscreen function key and he had a printout AND a saved .jpg file if he wanted it. You can set it up to preview, window, etc. He even used these files/printouts as part of his ISO paper-trail. Hope it can help you out.
