  1. QUOTE (Michael_Aivaliotis @ Dec 9 2008, 09:49 AM)

Michael is now looking for new leaders to take the reigns and help cleanup the forum categories and make sure every topic has a proper home. Who will be brave enough to step up to the plate?

I am willing to offer my help - in any way I can. If you're actually looking for some good wills for some tasks of this kind you can PM me.

  2. Hi all,

I was getting bored this week-end and started playing around with skype in LabVIEW through ActiveX.

On my computer skype is set up to login automatically with my username and password, so when I start skype by calling the ActiveX "Start" method in LabVIEW, skype starts up and logs in with my account. Easy.

Now I've been trying to find some kind of "log out" method and "login" method for which I could input the username and password I'd like skype to use but I didn't find it..

Can anyone help on this ?

    Thanks in advance :)

And, just to be explicit, the behavior of that private method *will* be different in a future version of
    LV
than it is today. There's a reason it was private for the moment.

    You have been warned.

Sure, I merely wanted to know how this method works.

    Thanks for the warning.

  5. Hi,

I was trying to make a VI that scans a project to find VIs that are no longer used (or dynamically called ;)).

I though my job was done when I found the property "Find Item With No Callers" but when I ran my VI... no luck... see screenshot below.

    post-7452-1224756731.png?width=400

Does it mean I will have to get the reference of all the items in my project and use the "callers" properties to find those with no callers ? :o

I'm not being lazy... I just wouldn't like to re-invent the wheel :shifty: .. plus the help for "Find Item With No Callers" says it might not be private forever...

    [...]

the video is absolutely ugly, a new picture every 0,2 second you can see nothing of this very nice watch.

    [...]

Well... it's a youtube video probably made by someone who is passionate with mechanical watches but with limited video editing skills.

My point in sharing these videos was just giving an idea of what watch makers do because I think it's deeply amazing.

If you search the watchmakers' website you'll find videos in HD ;)

instead of feeding a constant path for the image save function you can use the prompt file dialog located in the file palette.

    Hope this helps

i took a little break and implemented what i had in mind yesterday.

    feel free to ask questions.

    hope this helps ;)

PS : i couldn't test it because i don't have the USB driver installed, hope it will work :-o

nice watch, how much is it? :2cents:

    lol

    i was expecting such a question :D

first, these are not referred to as "watches" but "time pieces" and they don't really have price -if they had it would easily be a 7 digit price- but i think these are not to be worn as watch.. it takes more than a years to build one and for the most complicated there are limited series maybe less than 10 in the world so their place is a museum, not the wrist of someone who can spend millions of $ on a time piece.

Yes I do Neville. I see a file called "IMAQ Write File 2", but I've been unable to get it workin properly.

It will only let me enter a fixed filepath. I wish it to prompt me where to save the file each time I request an image.

    Many thanks.

  10. QUOTE (Sonic_Soul @ Oct 21 2008, 04:38 PM)

    Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to LabVIEW, and I'm having a few problems getting my head around what appears to be very basic function in LabVIEW (8.5.1). I'm working with machine vision and imaging and have the Vision addon pack for LabVIEW. I'm trying to learn by using VI's that have a similar function to my needs, and adapting them.

So, I've installed the IMAQ USB drivers to let me use a USB webcam as my input. I've also found some very useful code on this website that lets me continuously acquire images, see attached. What I need to do is add a feature to allow me to save whatever is on the screen as a BMP. When I press a button ("Save BMP" for example) I need the program to capture whatever is on screen as a BMP and ask me where to save the file. It seems a very simple in theory, but I've spent a few days playing around with no success! Can anyone help me get this working please, it's driving me nuts!

    Many thanks.

What I would do is a second loop in parallel to the acquire/display loop you have in your VI.

Just before starting that loop create another image that you could call "temp", and inside the "save loop" when the "save" button is pressed use IMAQ image copy to copy the image you called "IMAQ USB Example" into the "temp" image and then ask the user where to save it.

This way you have all the time you want to chose where to save the image and the acquisition keeps running.

Hope my explanations are clear enough, have a try and post back if you face issues.

    Hope this helps

    Great shot Ben !

I didn't know about that trick for the sort 1D array working on 1D array clusters !

Thanks for providing those very good tips !

If you click your name in any post, you should have a View Member's Posts option.

Additionally, in the profile page, there is a similar ring at the left side, under the member's name.

Great ! exactly what I was looking for.

    Thanks !

  13. QUOTE (pallen @ Sep 24 2008, 06:03 PM)

The fact that people actually voted for George Bush fascinates me.

Before the election (2004) some journalist made a pole in many countries, on about 30 countries it appeared that George Bush would have won "only" 3 or 4 among which Australia, Poland and UK.

This is of course not as reliable as a normal vote, just journalist speculating, but I think it's not too far from the reality.

  14. QUOTE (Neville D @ Sep 23 2008, 06:31 PM)

    True !

We a few projects in LV 8.5.1 using Vision Development Module (VDM) 8.5.1 (just for info : http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/244E6DDF9A92A6CD8625730100629047' target="_blank">compatibility notice) that we wanted to upgrade to LV 8.6 and VDM 8.6.

    1. We installed a PC with LV and VDM 8.6 and tried :

    - to mass compile the project folder -> LV Crash

    - open the *.lvproj -> LV Crash

    2. Then we installed a PC with LV 8.6 and VDM 8.6.1 and tried :

    - to mass compile the project folder -> LV Crash

    - open the *.lvproj -> LV Crash

    3. We installed a PC with LV 8.5.1 and VDM 8.6 and tried :

    - to mass compile the project folder -> LV Crash

    - open the *.lvproj -> LV Crash

    4. Then we installed received a fix from NI Vision Team and so far it works fine.

I believe the fix will be turn into a VDM 8.6.2 soon.

And you seem not to be part of that category :shifty:

    QUOTE (JiMM @ Sep 23 2008, 03:52 PM)

I would modify that to say that "Anyone who DESIRES to be the President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

I think the original version is better, some people wouldn't desire to be president but would be capable of getting people to vote for them... just look around the world :D

  16. QUOTE (crelf @ Sep 23 2008, 03:24 PM)

Eh - it's like anything else you see that's even slightly political: skewed. As long as you recognize that, I think it's safe to watch :)

My mum always used to say: "believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see."

I read just this morning :"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job." Douglas Adams
