  1. Well you did ask about rs-422... You aaperently are asking about EIA-422 which just desries the electrical charateristics of the wire and associated ciruitry. You maybe able to use an RS-232 reapeter that use EIA-422. I'd look at Black Box or the like. Ben
  2. I have also had succes with both the USB and ethernet versions of NI's adapters. Ben
  3. No source but the ultrasoic flow meters use the speed of sound running forward and backwards and the difference tells the speed of the medium ( the gas). Ben
  4. Try setting Advanced >>> Auto Adjust Scales False Ben
  5. Correct. "It did not hear you talking so it hung up." Ben
  6. Most of the times I have seen that error it was traced back to an over-loaded CPU on the server side. Edit by "that error" I am talking about intermitant error code 66. Ben
  7. You really have to log out more often Chris. But overall my favorite is still Flo with her tricked out name tag and all... Ben
  8. Excercising the Identity principle and doing some substitutions means That would mean that "You wish that you were alright." Ben
  9. ... and if you hit the left right arrow keys THEN do the up/down you will another nice feature (works on controls the same way). Ben
  10. Oh yes getting back to that topic! I do have one app that I developed that does have high visability but I can not post a link since all of the LV generated screens require a password to get at them. SO I'll tel you about it but I can't prove it. The app used BridgeVIEW (upgrading to DSC has been discussed but differnces in DSC require a lot of work to jump to DSC) running on multiple machines to use a variety of network connections to storage facilites around the world and maintain a record of availabe stores as apart of a Just in Time Inventory system. THe customer DB was queried for silos that needed updates (this allowed using multiple machines and adding more nodes to support more load), the devies were polled and the DB updated. Custom graphics featured BV graphics of silos bins etc. A custom image rendered the number of units on hand as a palette with a 3d bar scaled to rep the quatity. Product usage was monitored and low levels triggered e-mails to the sales dept to get a new order started. every customer has access to their own facilities (I did not do the web-interaface, we were the back-end) where the BV generated images could be viewed. Many of the de-icing silos at air ports are watched by this system. I'd love to post a link or an image. The next time I get a password to check on an issues, I'll try to get a scrubbed up screen shot. But is that story true? Ben
  11. Yikes! The only thought that comes to mind after reading your reply is what I believe was a quote by Pilate when being questioning Jesus (that I probably will quote incorrectly) "What is truth?" http://bible.cc/john/18-38.htm This may not be that far off since he was attempting to judge the truth himself. Another comment I heard recently is that "the truth does not have an agenda." For my part I can believe what makes sense. If I can't get it fit into my warped modle of the world, then I have no place to hang the fact and it becomes trivia and does not play a part in my day to dat activities. Interesting thoughts that I am still working on. Take care, Ben
  12. What dollar value would you put on the experience? Or in other words, if you had to pay for the event out of your own pocket, how much would you pay? Curious, Ben
  13. Checking the wrapper for the ear plugs shows you are correct! Ben
  14. Speaking for myself only... I feel violated when my posts are trashed. There have been a couple of interesting threads where interesting thoughts were exchanged right up till the inverse of "Kring's Law" was invoked and the thread shut down and deleted. Addressing some of the different views fo events in the world is a delicate matter and the wrong set of words can stop or kill a thread dead in its tracks. So the last thing I wasnt to do is say something that ends up killing a thread. Of cours if I had my way I would prefer to address the different views up front and deal and not skirt the issues. Take a look at how the Global Warming thread appeared to get heated but in the end it cooled down (pun intended). And now that I brought that back up again... Has anyone actually dug into the wikileaks themselves and can confirm on denigh what I had heard reported (I read it on the internet so it must be true). 1) There where WMD in Iraq. (T/F) ? 2) The Climate change thing was jsut global scam to redistribute wealth. (T/F) ? I am NOT asserting the above statements are true. I do not know. But as far as #1 goes, I never did figure out why Sadam did not let the inspectors in since doing so would have been a saving move for himself and a way to "rub the nose" of the global community that was trying to enforce the UN's decision. I sincerley hope I have not offened anyone and welcome any and all that would like to share their insight. Ben
  15. attmept #3 at replying (no not technical issue rather retracting) Thanks for those links. I had not seen them. Re:high visability Quoting myself and adapting to this context... "The problem with writing perfect code is that chances are, nobody will ever see it!" Or in this case, "the problem with writting really cool apps is even I am not allowed to see it!" Ben
  16. I just remebered that I cheat when it comes to noise. I am completely deaf in one ear (my ear plug consumptions is half of most people) and the other one qualifies me a legally deaf so my method may not work as well for you if not using the industial cab. Side question! Isn't the sound of silence after sitting next to a fan all day wonderful? Ben
  17. reference please. All I can bring to mind is an scene from the movie "Running Man" and that can't possibly be correct. Ben
  18. I have never thought of the save often thing as being bad. I developed that habit back in DOS 3.1 and it has saved me a lot of potential lost work. Power ouatages are just an excuse to take a break. Quiet envirnment: Protective ear-mufs (like those worn wire shooting) combined with ear plugs give me a 6 db reduction in noise. Add an industrial PC chassis fan running and there is no sound distrations. My boss bought a bumper sticker that now hangs in my cube that reads; "You do not want me to take of these headphones." (AnEnginneringMind.com) Visitors have learned to approach gradually to avoid me jumping out of my seat (when you are in the zone, you are in the zone). Ben
  19. Moldyspaghetti reminds me of the mess you can get into if you have a lot of files that are just flattened data structures when the data sturctures changes between when they were saved adn when they are loaded. You get all wrapped up a pile of versions of the data structure and converters to read the old as the new. I'll just leave it as a warning for now. Ben
  20. well that follow-up is outside my comfort zone. I would start looking for a method or property associated with media player that controls the sceen size. Ben
  21. with modern versions of LV you have two options (that are straight froward) either size the picture control to the size of your image or zoom the image in the picture. This thread on the dark side http://forums.ni.com/t5/BreakPoint/LV-Picture-Control/m-p/197962 has many links to picture control examples. That may help out. Ben
  22. Far from a flame war... Who would have thought that virtual group hug could develop on LAVA on any topic let alone wikileaks. Ben
  23. A contract is a promise and violation of a contract is just plain wrong. Ben
  24. I'm on the same page as you brother! (make an entry in your log. this does not happen often ). I look at as part of the "they came for my XXX ... and I did not care .... then they came for me but there was nobody left to help" type thing. Gimme the truth and let me worry about what it means (after all what else are we supposed to do with our brains?). Ben
  25. Threadconfig will let you specify the number of threads allocated to each execution system. See this link. http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Fully-utilizing-all-CPU-s-for-a-LabVIEW-application/m-p/416234#M205616 Ben
